Roast Preliminary Final Umpiring Thread

Yeah Margetts' link with West Coast - sister working there, family all members of the club needs to be exposed. No doubt the family got together tonight over dinner and said well done Dean, brilliant work, Ok you couldn't play the game but your contribution to the Eagles was outstanding last night and we're so proud of you. Toast to Dean, and now toast to the Eagles!

What a disgrace.

I wonder has Margetts declared a conflict of interest. The AFL need to be totally transparent about removing umpires from officiating games, if they're associated with that participating AFL club.

I think I have a theory regarding the umpires.. Richard branson attended the Bulldogs Adelaide final and sat next to Gil McLachlan. (This part is fact) The conversation would have gone:
Branson: So all these people attend these finals every time one is on.
Gil: Pretty much
Branson: So if a team has to fly from say.... PERTH, to make the final, many thousands will want to buy tickets to make the trip?
Gil: I suppose so.
Branson: If one of the perth teams doesn't make it, I want the other in the grand final. Make it so.
Gil: Consider it done.

Just a point on conflict of interest. In the A League, Perth glory were playing Brisbane in the gf and the ref had a girlfriend who was employed by Brisbane. The ref gave a penalty, in extra time from memory and Brisbane won.

Aleague said no conflict and correct decision but he was not seen around Perth glory games for some time.

What goes around comes around eventually. Easy to manipulate things and create a 20 page thread about how the umpires cost you a gf appearance but in reality you were out scored 78-33 from quarter time onwards. Sure there were a few poor decisions, mostly against the roos, but you are delusional to think that was the difference.

And none of us claim they, solely, were the difference. But if you are suggesting the momentum of the game wasn't reversed, and the natural outcome therefore prevented from being played out, by an outrageous string of unfathomable umpiring decisions, then, I'm afraid, the delusion has set up camp squarely in your backyard, pal.

Let me understand this so the eagles are no good and rely on umpiring to win games. Okay the umpiring was rubbish and North got screwed on three decisions, but like I said before its West Coast have nothing to do with winning frees they played football as normal.

However you would not be having this thread if Waite, Petrie, Brown had kicked goals and if BBB could hand ball to Higgins and set up an open shot at goal

It was a lot more than 3 decisions you muppet.

Enjoy getting smashed by the Hawks. Once the footy season is over we can go back to forgetting your shithole of a state even exists :thumbsu:

.

Sure, the momentum swing is all just ifs, buts and maybes though. How about the when Kennedy was being held in the goal square early in the third and the higgins goaled down the other end? Or when Waite throw himself to the ground leading to the cunnington shot? Eagles were all over the roos at that point, I could well be saying the same about momentum swings had we lost.

As for the Jacobs trip, was a terrible decision for sure, but even if he did kick the goal and cut the margin down to 16 points, not likely u guys could have out scored us by 3+ goals considering u had only kicked 2 goals from the previous 2 quarters.

Essentially it's easier to blame

Not likely we could have outscored you even if Jacobs had goalled? Maybe, but the point you don't understand is that we were denied the opportunity. The fact that something is unlikely doesn't mean for a moment that it won't have happened. It's as good as impossible to win the lottery, yet people do each and every week.

I'm surprised how quickly it has faded from the media, given the significance I expected a shitstorm. Brad should have gone hard in the post match.
What purpose would that serve?

I truly don't understand the mentality of Eagles fans. This is a North board, for North fans, and a logical place to express frustration and disappointment after a loss. Why are they here? They should just be enjoying their win. The last thing I would have done after the Hobart win was go to the Eagles board. It was the same at the game. When we kicked a goal we celebrated amongst ourselves. When they kicked a goal they were more intent on trying to goad us than celebrating the goal. They're a weird mob.

You really have to learn to take the good with the bad in terms of umpiring. In the Elim, Richmond were robbed of a crucial goal with 5 minutes remaining by a missed howler and last week vs Sydney, you had the rub of the umps most of the night. Time to build a bridge.

You dominated the 1st quarter last night, yet led by just 20 points and from there your intensity towards the contest fell right away. After quarter time, WC had 28 scoring shots to 13, you led the inside 50's by 9 at 1/4 time, but lost it 52-44 at the end of the game.

Pretty big turnaround after the 1st quarter there, are we blaming the umps for that?
Richmond supporter huh? How's that working out for you? Wait, we already know. Thanks for the laughs over the years. The 2013 Elim final where you got beaten by a team that wasnt even good enough to qualify for finals in the first place is pretty much a testament to the pea-heartedness of your club. Come back when your team makes a contribution to the league......other than comic relief of course.
