Around 60 days till the first bounce and we are supposed to believe that Old Mentonians will be playing Ormond at the Keysborough Playing fields in Round 1. While allocating a bye in the fixture isn't difficult it would be nice if the league made an announcement in relation to the status of Old Mentonians.

If the rumours of the VAFA allowing transfers or asking local clubs' players who can't get a game to play then also make a statement in regards to this.

At the end of the day I should know better than expect a proactive approach from HQ. Wishful thinking on my behalf.
Just look at the clearances and OM have lost a minimum of 25 players.

Unfortunately there is no coming back from that.

It's a shame what has happened to Old Mentonians this off season - a lot of this seems to have stemmed from no backing from the school and being heavily reliant on a core group of players with no connection to the school. The fact that most of those players have jumped ship at the first opportunity unfortunately speaks volumes on their character - let alone the surrounding clubs who have identified a struggling club and targeted their core players (Beaumaris, St Bedes etc.)

It’s a wonder Glen Eira haven’t tried to merge them.

"We are going to cancel your clearance request as we think you should remain loyal"......... said no club ever.

I agree it's a very sad day if OM are done. We had some great battles in the late 80's /early 90's with some of their club legends.

It's a tough competition to 'stay' competitive within let alone push up to the highest divisions, especially without a connection to a school to help support player recruitment and retention.

As I have said previously, I believe we will see more of this (and departing clubs from the VAFA) in the next 5-10 years. Potentially leaving the VAFA with a 5 x senior mens competitions, but an expanded womens football program.

It’s a never ending obsession of hating GE from you. You would rather see clubs fold than merging. Great for the love of football.

Not obsessed, just made the comment as that’s the history of the club, merge after merge . Also we’re have I said I want a club to fold !

Theres a big difference between recruiting and targeted poaching when you hear rumors of a club struggling
“We are not going to target a club that is struggling with player retention”…….said no club ever.

I have posted on here that several times about how disappointing the demise of OMs is. There have been rumblings for years and sadly once they lost their ground it was inevitable. The players have gone in many different directions, across various competitions. It's not as if just one club has picked at the carcass.

You are a muck raker. What has GE done to create this obsession in you mind. Most people are happy clubs merge rather than fold. If GE and Monash didn’t merge neither would be around today giving kids a game of footy. Instead we have 3 senior sides, 2 under 19s and a successful woman’s team. Better than nothing. The only thing wrong is having obsessed people like you over the years. Worry about your own club instead of jeering the ones that are trying to make it better.

People know where you are getting your Unders from. Heard over a breakfast at Left Field a certain GE person bragging about taking Unders from St Paul’s and Ormond

When will the VAFA announce the departure of Old Mentonians on its website? Or are the VAFA still holding out hope (which is getting slimmer by the day) for an 11th hour reprieve to have the Panthers play out the season at Keysborough Playing Fields or Le Page Park?

So? Is that a problem? St Paul’s for one have taken our footballers. That’s football. St Bedes and Beaumaris have taken players from Mentone, that’s football. That’s the last post I will make re your obsession. Find a new club to menace. Bye.

What about the players who have gone to Highett, Dingley, Chelt $$$$$$$$$

Interesting chatter this evening at training re discussions of AFL Vic sending guidelines in the coming weeks to ALL competitions around clubs changing competitions moving forward.

Looks like a few might be assessing options across various competitions (not just VAFA), especially after a few moves for 2023 season!
