How did the injury happen? Sounds pretty horrific. Glad to hear he'll make a full recovery.
With 1 game left before the half way mark, all the money would have to be for Marcellin at present. From the 4 quarters of footy I've seen of each opponent, I'd say the 4 looks almost settled with the winner of the Mazenod v. Parkdale game claiming 4th spot. Thought Rupo might've been a better showing than their 3-5 record (and poor %) suggests. With the exception of not having seen Fitzroy, there's a bit of a gap from the OC & Marcellin to Mazenod and then you could throw a blanket over Banyule, Rupo, PEGS & Parky. All capable on their day.

The Nodders have played well in recent weeks after getting a huge wake up call from the Roys. Interesting game this week against Parkdale and I agree the winner could be the team that takes that 4th position.
From what I have seen, Fitzroy are clearly the team to beat this year and I would install them as premiership favourites. Having said that, massive win by Marcellin over OC on the weekend.
I'll be happy with turning 5-4 considering the start we had.

Agree, Fitzroy are the team to beat this season, they were terrific in the first half last week and put the game out of reach by 1/2 time. Like Marcellin, very strong even performers.

Even though the Rovers lost again, there was some good signs not just for now, but for 2013. The Rovers are going to be a really good team by then.
Lemms, I couldn't disagree with you more. Having seen everyone once I maintain that OC & Marcellin are the front runners. Mazenod weren't far off, but I think they might struggle to find a spot in the 4 now. Unless Fitzroy have tricks in the bag, I think the better sides will pick them apart in the 2nd half of the year. Disciplined & well drilled, but very predictable. God help them if it's wet in September. Have OC suffered some injuries? Surprised to see them in the pack. Hate to say I told you so to old mate les argen, but given he's indicated there's no love coming from him for the Rovers, it would be remiss of me not to...
I wouldn't read too much into the Roys performance yesterday Mick. I'm sure that your coaches would've been fully aware that Ablett, Pickering and Vansittart weren't out there, nor was the first ruck, big Bear. There's your tricks.
A good effort by the rovers yesterday, however. Didn't look as poor as their previous results might have suggested.
By the way, was a pretty ordinary effort to see the HR water carriers and runner mixing with the players in a dust up. The runner would want to watch out if he keeps swinging his fists at players, he'll find himself in some pretty hot water...

You wouldn't be call us soft would you Mick? Interesting....I'd like to know everyone else's thoughts. Disrespectful to say the least, especially from someone respresnting a club looking for respect. We had nothing but praise for your boys - at least they had a crack.
Still no love for you Mickey! Pretty tough going though, will need a massive lift to turn things around in the run home. Still we're not far away, have been competitive most weeks and in front yesterday at the last break. Winning is a habit so hopefully the very young Monash boys can get it going. We've done it before - disrespect us at your peril in the next 9....
AWOL - I'm reading plenty into it. The added quality will make it more challenging, but it was the brand of footy I thought would be easy to pick apart. As for the HR runner, he was spoken to immediately after the incident. Might want to get the eyes checked out though. He didn't throw a punch and the waterboy was from Fitzroy, so best careful in that glass house.

Perhaps Fitzroy with their full list and good footy conditions, but I suspect better sides will pick them apart as they were fairly predictable in feeding back & squaring up. That's fair enough. It is difficult to make those judgements when you've only seen each team on one occasion.
I could be mistaken about the waterboys, but I'd be very surprised as Fitzroy's three ranged in age from about 12-15 years of age. I saw the tussle from about 15 metres away and the runner was definitely heavily 'involved', and the players involved (the two most experienced and respected at Fitzroy) certainly said that he was more than saying how do you do'
Correct. I've said time & again we only see each side for 4 quarters and that's where the opinion comes from.

Any chance of some of the Hastings defectors returning next year Mick. From very casual observation it doesn't seem Martin has made an on-field appearance there so far this year.
One can only hope, AM. A few of us went up to Cairns a handful of years back and when the club got relegated to D1 we came home. Fingers crossed they have a similar mindset. Marto played his first game for Hastings on the weekend.

Uncle Mick, I think you may have over-rated us. I note you comments about the Roys being predictable - we are anything but predictable. Marcellin are also very predictable but being able to counter act that is not easy - look at Collingwood under Malthouse.

Perhaps I have, g_n...? Again, based on 4 quarters of footy. Are you suggesting your boys are downhill skiiers? They looked very good against weak opposition. Not claiming to be the all seeing eye, simply giving my opinion on what I've seen.

Your assessment could be right UM. I think our bottom 5 or 6 really get found out against the better sides - they all are very young so hopefully they can pick up the pace in the back half. If they do, we can challenge for the finals but six points out - tough ask. Marcellin and Fitzroy in the next two weeks, we'll see where we are at after that.
Keep up the good work down there UM, the reports from the weekend are very promising.
That might be a little bit difficult, especially if Hastings happen to win the premiership in the MPNFL this year. Why would you need the players who defected to Hastings to come back, seeing that the players the Rovers had last Saturday gave a great performance against a team that was second on the ladder. Even though the margin was 71 points in favour of Fitzroy, remember that the Rovers at one stage during the 3rd qtr trailed by only 16 points. And they also managed to kick 5 goals as well in that quarter.

I’d be very surprised if your club wouldn’t welcome back Martyn, Devereaux and Pinto with open arms. All class footballers. Maybe not Robbins who is more likely to return to his real home at Monderville one day.

AM - we'd absolutely welcome the boys back with open arms. They're Hampton boys. A shame to have lost them, but they know where their home is. Hopefully it doesn't take them too long to figure it out.

The problem is if players like Pinto, Devereaux and Martyn came back, they might find it difficult to break back into the senior line-up, seeing that most of the young players the Rovers got now will fight hard to keep their spot in the team.
