A Section Premier Section 2023

It's swings and roundabouts, and also gets back to how hard the people running the club want to become successful, whatever that means for them. Many are happy with their lot, that's why the VAFA is so great, and there can only be 10 teams in the top grade at any one time.

Regarding players going local for money, it's always been the case, for the last 50 years, whether that be in the sticks or Balwyn etc. We lost a heap to Bentleigh, Malvern and other VAFA clubs like St Mary's and Old Geelong recently, whilst St Bernards, De La, Old Scotch, Collegians and OX used to regularly pick off our best players year after year.

Throw in kids like Wardlaw, Taranto, Touk Miller, Rowbottom, De Goey, Hunter, Libba, Wallis, Stone etc getting drafted and kids like Phillips, Sullivan etc dominating VFL, it's a miracle we are anywhere near the Premier division.

So we all have our challenges.

Not quite the post I'd expect from the reigning premier and competition powerhouse.

Must be doing it tough down at TH King.

I agree with some of the comments in here, but I'm not quite sure there have been many senior players that have played at SKOB have ended up at Collegians.

Every club has players come and go. Our club has had this, as have others. Look at some clubs like St Marys and Caulfield Grammarians who have had a big exodus of senior players to other clubs in the VAFA or other leagues recently, even look at Old Mentonians and the sad state of affairs down there. At my club, Collegians, we have a number of players who went to school at Glen Waverley who are playing in the eastern league and have for many years had this.

I also think it's a bit rich to say with the amount of talent playing at AFL and VFL level that SKOB are lucky to be in A grade, my goodness gracious me, a core group of players who played in APS premierships at St Kevin's in 2009, 2011 and 2012 didn't get drafted, many ended up at SKOB and have been part of success there, so it's not some sort of fluke SKOB are in A grade, they've had a pretty good pipeline of talent.

Collegians have been in A grade longer than any current club other than Old Xavs despite having a school first XVIII side that was nowhere near the level of St Kevin's, Xavier, Scotch, Caulfield and Carey. Was that by fluke, no it wasn't it has been down to a core group of players sticking together at Collegians, plus a few recruits, usually mates of blokes playing in our side already. Everyone has their challenges, but many would love to have the challenge of a side winning A grade flags / competing at the top end of A grade.

You cannot be serious. You've just made a b...sh.t sandwich. Name some players that De La or the Bernies picked off year after year!

And if you want to go one step further Wardlaw started at De La Salle College, Wallis and Libba were Bernard's boys, Touk was a scholarship lad from the western suburbs. Mate fair go!
The 2001 St Bernard’s premiership team says hi

Not all challenges are equal, and to say it comes back to how hard people work when running the club is pretty patronising.
The reality is that APS old boy clubs will always have the advantage of:
1) their schools can afford to throw a heap of coin at elite football programs/dishing out scholarships that ensure a steady stream of strong football talent graduating every year. Sure, some end up at at a higher level (only to come back later) and many are ready to contend for the senior team;
2) a vast network of well-connected old boys that can be prodded to help with employment opportunities and other perks;
3) the possibility of offering footballers employment at their school.

All of the APS schools are represented in A-section other than Old Geelong (B grade) and Old Carey (C-grade) and they have and will get a crack at A-grade at some stage.

Not complaining about this, it's just the way it is. To pretend otherwise, or contend that you face comparable challenges to other non-APS clubs, suggests a condescending sense of privilege. I hope you didn't have it ingrained in you while a student at your school.

I notice Mr Charlie Woodley has put in for a transfer to the MPNFL, he's been a great servant of OX and a great clubman.

Whispers around town that Dan Hannebery will be joined at the centre bounce in six days by Josh Kennedy. No transfer in yet I see, but it’d be nice to get some information from the red and black crew

This is the content I am here for. XavsAFL will be unbeatable at The College this year.

Should be a good round one clash this week. I predict given the past week's weather that the game will be wet and tightly contested by both sides hungry to win a flag in 2023.

Mr Hanners isn’t playing tomorrow, so unlikely. Please also don’t be an OX fanboy all year like you were last year, it makes me want to puke 😎
Good luck to everyone tomorrow, hopefully no injuries.

Ill try. Will he play much......hard to think an AFL club couldn't get him right but an amateur club could get him on the park.

Neither player named in Round 1. They would have been the worth the price of admission alone at The College.
I’m calling for a couple of last minute adjustments to the Team Sheet.
XavsAFL still to win at The College this afternoon.
