From what I've seen so far there can be no doubt that at this stage of the season Priddis must be leading the Eagles B&F.

He is our leading midfielder by some margin so far as illustrated by :

1st in tackles
1st in contested possesions
1st in clearances
1st in handballs
1st in inside 50's

His effectiveness in close is elite and if he was playing for a Victorian club he'd be in the top 5 of most media awards.

The fact he was made captain recently is an indication of the high esteem in which he is held by our premiership winning coaching staff

So who else would be close to Priddis in the B&F?

Priddis deserves it without a doubt so far this year. Busts his gut every game, no matter how much shit he cops! :thumbsu:

Jobe Watson is effectively the same player and the Vic media love him.

Fully agree with the watson comparisons and thats how i see priddis. Heading into the future i still dont want him leading the midfield. All things considered though if his efficiency improved 3-4% and his kick to handball ratio improved he'd be an elite player. Asking for a lot there though.

Watson is a monster. Who can take a mark and has superior kicking skills.

Watson is surrounded by runners, Priddis is not and never will be. He has no future in our midfield rotation.

Yep agree with all this. Has been a great trooper for us and if he is leading the B&F he deserves to be ... but we would be a lot better side if he was our number 3/4 mid (and similarly Essendon would be a much better side if Watson was their number 3/4 mid)

He's a good tackler in close. In space, his opponent has a field day with him.
Clearances constantly have little effect.
His handballs are not in any way creative nor overly effective.
He's slow and has little hurt factor.

Unfortunately, I think he's probably leading the b&f as well. Which is a clear indicator of how bad we are at the moment.

You're a tool and a fool. Watson has superior kicking skills?!?! With that one sentence you have confirmed what I first thought when I started seeing posts from you about Priddis on this board. That is you have ZERO knowledge about anything football related. You might have an opinion but its almost always wrong.

Good on him if he is, waters, kennedy and lecras are also in the mix and ebert is a bit of a dark horse, he is pretty much top 5 in all of the statistics. Naita might have a bit of a claim too as he would of polled early on in the season.

Dont see anyone else but Sheppard coming through and polling well towards the end of the season.

I don't think you know what superior means.

Anyway, I don't like the Jobe Watson comparison. Watson works within his limitations (hence his handball/kick ratio), and can be very damaging by hand.

Priddis kicks more than he should and the only thing he damages with his handball, is our chances of an effective clearance.

I do agree with the OP though, Priddis is most likely going to win B&F because he is durable and because the coaches obviously value what he does if they keep playing him there despite our "youth policy".

That made absolutely no sense. About the only time Priddis looks to kick the ball is when he's running past a player who has marked the ball and when he's in open space/uncontested possession.

Priddis plays to his limitations more than Watson does especially using the kick/handball ratio as a guide. Priddis basically has a 1:3 kick to handball ratio, whereas Watson would be around 1:2, and that's inflated due to a few games where he hardly kicked it.

Priddis has improved his game over recent years as well, his agility has improved with his patented sidestep-spin thing move he does to evade tacklers, then from there we need him to handball to someone running past in space and that could actually be a damaging play.

He's still no world beater, and he's at times unfairly targetted on here. I'm stil undecided on how he should be managed. He can't exactly be a 60% TOG role player because he has 1 role, and it would be pointless having him in the side, but he currently is our leading option taking 90%+ midfield time. However the young guys won't surpass him until they get longer stints in the middle.

He's been able to achieve all that despite being the only bloke in our side to be tagged week in & week out - generally by the opposition's no. 1 tagger (Ling, Cornes, Kirk, etc).

He deserves to be leading our Best & Fairest.
