Priority Pick. Hows it work?

Well from memory Hird was pick 78 or 79 :p
Lets put this to bed, once and for all... Yes, Hird was picked very late, but those days where not much money is spent into recruiting are over. These days, all bases are covered, country footy has scouts everywhere (so Chris Grant being picked so late wouldnt have been in this day and age)... to get quality players you need to stock up with earlier picks, its rare to pick up quality players through the PSD (except for Nick Stevens- even Mal hasnt been great). While there are some great stories about rookies going onto play 100-200 games (lovett has been one of the classier players to come through), it is the rarity and not the norm

Because he is slow and doesnt hit targets.

He is better than a few of our midfielders. Will play 250-300 games and is a hard nut midfielder. He isn't that slow, heck Sam Mitchell was said to be "slow"..Priddis isn't much slower than Mitchell!

I dont think he will get to 250 games. He is currently better than some of our midfielders but I am very confident that once Lonergan and Hislop etc clock up another 30 games they will be better than Priddis. He is slow and his disposal....we have enough players that struggle as it is to hit up a man:eek:

So he will play until he is 33 at 22 games a year to get 250 or play until 36 at 22 games a year for 300

Your right, we should have picked him up.

Freak

He is a better midfielder than Lovett, Lonergan (who I do rate), etc. At least Priddis finds the pill 30 times and has a good set of hands. I rate him. He would have been a better pick than Andrew Lee for crying out loud!

Here we go Mr Hindsight is in action again.
Yep 16 clubs passed on picking him in the ND at least 4 times but why did we not pick him up.Terrible drafting Bombers. While we are at it why did they not pick up Mitchell,Cox and few other rookie listed players that have gone on and made it at senior level:rolleyes:
You are the clubhouse leader in the tool of the year award!

Win 16 points or less first year = PP AFTER the first round

Win 16 points or less second year in a row = PP BEFORE the first round.

Win any more than 16 points in any year you lose the PP and you start from scratch again.

Is it 16 or 18? I thought it might have been 4 wins and a draw was ok, you're probably right, just asking.

We were effectively the first struggling team to be screwed by the new Priority pick rule changes. Instead of in 2006, getting pick 2, we picked after the first round (18) Though we did get Jetta (yet to work out), we could have access to Joel Selwood, Leunberger, Ben Reid, Nathan Brown, Boak, among some of the early picks we could have nabbed. Selwood or Leunberger alongside Gumbleton in three years would have sounded very delightful!

A question regarding priority picks for next year with the GC17 team coming in.

As it has been floated, GC17 get priority picks 1-5 but what happens if Melb finish last again with 4 or less wins in 2009 - where do we get our priority picks (providing we still exist lol)?

ie
GC picks 1-5
melb picks 6&7

or
melb picks 1&2
GC picks 3-7

or
GC 1, melb 2, GC 3, melb 4, GC 5-7

or some other weird combination

i realise there is much water to go under the bridge re GC17 draft concessions, but this idea hasn't been discussed as far as i can tell.

cheers in advance

None of this with GC17 is settled yet but what has been proposed is this.

GC17 will get say the first 5 picks 1 - 5 OR staggered 1,3,5,7,9

They are not PP but the first picks in round 1.

IF a club gets a PP before the first round, they will pick before GC17
