Pies v Dees a cracker of a game.

When the siren sounded, the Dees players thought their year was over.

Not sure how long it took fit the word to get to them, that the Panthers got done and they were safe.

Mekka shown the door or moving onto bigger n better things?

Not shown the door as far as I know ,,, he has business interest back in the Shepparton (vic) where he lived and played all of his footy days ,,, do you guys know he was a goalkicking legend down there for many years ,,, and Im talking he kicked some 2400 goals in his career !!!
Was one tough nut and actually got suspended for a season for jumping the fence and belting a abusive spectator ,, true story

Wow, unreal results today ,,,,, how Morningside and Mt Gravatt lost/drew today in the scenario current is just unbelievable .. ( taking nothing away from Sandgate and the Grange )
Been a long time since the Panthers have missed a finals series !!!
Magpies beat Surfers in a 2 point thriller, butboth clubs they keep their place in the finals play offs ..
At the start of the season did any of us think Surfers would be up there ,, I dont think so .. great effort and shows what a good senior coach and his assistants can do with a side.. the improvement in Green this year has been immense,, for one example.
Labrador belts PBC ... scary proposition now ... gaining a full list and peaking at the right time.

He was definitely a jet at Lemnos and Ardmona. I thought the incident re suspension was when he was at Ardmona and spectators (only kids I think) approached him on the ground after a siren. Bit better than jumping the fence and no good if spectators are having a go at players.

Gee looks like the cats bottomed out today as well! Smashed in both grades and a half doz ring ins in their magoos. One guy pushing towards mid 50s.

He kicked 1000 goals in a minor league outside of Sheppearton, the standard of the comp is similar to QAFA.
And from all reports The Goulbern Valley league we're happy to see the back of him, caused nothing but trouble, but credit where it's due Labrador are in a good position to go back to back.

Ablett, he kicked more then that in the minor leagues and he in fact kicked plenty in the GVFL and Murray league ,, 2 major comps in the region , well above qafl levels. But you are correct in saying he was a issue .lol

yes Smy ,, this has been the case for some weeks now,,, just a lack of numbers ,,, and today our colts played in a semi final , thus we had none of them to top up the numbers .. our senior side today had some 10 reserve grade players on the field ,, anyway ,, end of the season.. lets see what we can do for 2017

Is BA keen to go on or will the club seek other candidates?

I hate to say this but the Panthers where woeful, this year I've witness several games where Morningside have not been up to QAFL Standard, this match was another example. The demise of the Panthers has been rapid and must be concerning for the club. On the brighter side the Morningside Reserves looked impressive and will be hard to beat. All Credit to Sandgate they wanted to Win and deserved the Victory.

On those goals, the number seems a bit large. Simon Goosey averaged 5 goals a game for 300 games at Mornington. I don't think Meka would have played 500 games. If he did and he averaged 5 goals a game it would be an astounding record. Perhaps a few lunchtime games at Wanganui primary school included?

Not many better FF's outside of AFL than the Goose!

Is it as bull$hit as it sounds the the story of cops investigating match fixing in a ressies game?? What game was fixed? for a QAFL reserves flag???

And as of Goosley ,, yes a great full forward but his stats are mid range compared to the country greats .. Check out Trevor Sutton, Ron Best , Daryl Jordan

Guys go on and click title MORE FOOTY, then click on REGIONAL FOOTY ( which is 9th on the list) then click on MOST GOALS IN A CAREER ( which is 5th on the list ) .. Here you will see goal kicking career tallies that will blow you away ,,, most are verified , some not ,, but its done by a statistican that posts his name as Todman ..
Check it out ,, is great reading

Ablett,,, at this stage im not sure ,,, IMO , he has done a very good job against the odds ,,,,,
The club is moving forward in big ways,,, a new scoreboard is coming and that will complete facilities that will be the best in the comp.
New major sponsor in Ord Minnett with ex St kilda player Craig Devonport becoming the football manager has brought new found professionalism to the club and avenues to fund raising ...
From what I know,, we are looking at a huge improvement in 2017 with a number of key signings recruit wise already in place ...
So as of BA still being the senior coach,, I dont know that .

Woeful was an understatement. Not interested, outmuscled, appeared to be clueless . Gradually have been decimated by retirements, supplying large numbers to NEAFL (Redlands and Aspley) and a large contingement of their juniors playing in the AFL. The policy of not actively recruiting has impacted on their ability to win, but they still managed to win 11 of 17 games and their Reserves probably have only lost about 6 games in 5 years. Most clubs would be happy to have that CV so don't be too hard on them

that is the biggest load of tripe I've ever read. ^^

Reeks of yet another 'my shit don't stink' Morningside supporter or player making a long list of excuses, some of which are utter bullshit.

'Don't actively recruit' - they pillage the local juniors all over town, even as young as 13 years old in some cases. They should be regularly penalised by AFLQ for the shit they pull, but the old blind eye is turned.

Next time a Morningside bloke approaches a 14 year old with 'You're more likely to get drafted if you come to us' - I'll be laughing on the inside at 'policy not to actively recruit'.

Luckily there is plenty of new blood at AFLQ HQ and the old leg up that the Panthers have regularly enjoyed is now becoming a thing of the past (generally) and lets hope we see them out of the finals for many years to come. Their supporters are worse than Port fans.

All the better that it was Sandgate who knocked them out, a true local club.

It's a myth that we get any sort of special treatment from HQ, absolute myth.

To be fair though, its a myth we don't recruit players too !

Disappointing end to a disappointing year. the Reserves side (full of local juniors - lol) should win the flag though.

Whoa. You really don't like Morningside do you?

I've always been a palmy supporter and have always had a lot of respect for Morningside. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes but It's obvious they have had a heap of success on the field and in getting players drafted. Never had any issues with their supporters either

Years ago I was coaching a Junior under 11 team and I had a father come to me and mentioned that "Club A" had offered their family, payment of their sons school books and a certain small percentage of school fees if his son signed up with their Club the following year. The father had the nerve to ask me to see if our club could Match or better the offer. I wished the father and his son all the best at their new club. Next year his son is playing for "Club A". And No "Club A" was not Morningside it was another Club doing the poaching.

All Junior clubs like to "Promote their club" to new potential players, to make out that Morningside is the only Club "Promoting" themselves is insulting and plain wrong!!!

Maybe the AFLBJ not AFLQ should grow a back bone for poaching junior players!!!

Curious in what form did Morningside receive a Leg up from the old AFLQ???

Dezario ,
must agree with you here.... Im a Broady supporter, and my employer has been a major sponsor of Morningside for 20 plus years thus I do hear inside news and I attend some of their fundraising functions ,,( just last week attended a luncheon with the guest speaker being Leigh Matthews,,)
They are a very well run club , not flush with funds ,( otherwise they would of stayed in the NEAFL comp.)... thus their success over the years is one to be envious of.
Clubs like this are vital to the standard of the comp as a whole , pushing other clubs to lift their standard and make the comp a better quality of footy.

Just further comment,,, Labrador , one would think they will go back to back this year and if they maintain their list for 2017, they surely will be up for a threepeat ... now my point is , watch the baggers come out and hang shit on them !!!!
Fact is, Labrador have implemented a business plan that has been a success...... if you dont have a solid business plan ,, you dont achieve ..

Its one thing to "recruit" juniors (which btw is a really shite practise and creates a terrible attitude for young kids early in their career) and another to keep them. Panthers seem to do this well. Think you might find there is a fair bit of "recruiting" going around in the nth of Bris too plus it does happen on the sunshine coast. Easily fixed - juniors play in zones unless there is exceptional circumstances. U-18 footy you can jump ship if you like. At the end of the day would help clubs move forward, make administrators focus on their area and the boys/girls under their nose and stop this ridiculous parochial fighting that occurs at local junior sport level. We like to talk the talk around whats best for junior sport, not many like to walk the walk and put ethical practises into place. Hypocrites in the main and as soon as you are identified as a club that does this, all government grant applications should be rejected bc the club obviously doesnt give a fat rats about the sport, just their own backyard.
