It’s the choice of the player.
100% it is but if its not in the best interests of the player's progress (ie 3 hrs travelling vs kicking a footy) why try to coerce someone down?

Aspley start Monday - fingers crossed for a Matt Payne sighting
No not at any cost. And I definitely didn't say that. If within the salary cap and club budget why wouldn't you?At any cost??

Agree. Big gamble to play the 3 year development card. Everyone wants success immediatelyBig assumption that alot of these blokes will stick around Lagging - not sure I've ever really seen a 3-5 year plan work at this level of footy.

Sure, Grange have been pursuing a youth policy with a view to the future, but we’re definitely not playing kids over older guys in the 2’s who would give us a better chance of winning right now.
No coach or footy department in this league is playing with next year (or later) in mind, they want to win this year. If Grange had more “old blokes” who were worthy of a senior spot we’d be picking them.
its like you are, but at the same time, you're not.
Maybe the policy is the same at every club? Best 22.
Stallard jindalee juniorI see they lured J.Allen back from Sherwood, which probably means B.Allen as well.
Magpies not great at retaining guys who have started with them and then gone up a level, only to have them come back to that same level to play against them. Allen, Frame, Johnson, Franks, Stallard to name a few - probably a few more?
For a club that appears to have as good a culture as any, why do their own blokes not stick around?
Very simple answer.
It will have started by the player (and/or parent) not feeling the love at their previous club. Then they look outside and then they become open to the stories of greater pathways. End story
. Some clubs recruit by disparaging other clubs, other clubs just sell themselves.
If you are the kind of player that falls for the first tactic, you're probably the sort of bloke the 2nd club doesn't want anyway.
I can't wait for the next Olympics. I just wonder if we'll ever see Fan the Man back on hereEvery now and then you say something that is highly intelligent and makes sense.
About as regular as the Olympics, but it happens.
I could not possibly agree more with this comment.

I don’t quite get why the beat up on Grange on this forum. So they have a young team, and haven’t won many games, but someone has to come bottom or near bottom each year.
I’m sure their coaches are looking for progression and development and not just wins.
And I can categorically say that I am not connected to Grange in any way and I have never met Judge.
Just think there needs to be a bit of balance.

probably fair comment but someone on here commented that Grange had the best football program in the comp and no surprise that comment attracted responses. And some of the commentary on Grange’s FB about how awesome their program is has been a bit OTT also, truth is all QAFL clubs are having a crack
Seems also there’s criticism amongst Brisbane people about targeting young players from other clubs, being from the GC I’ve no idea if there’s anything to that.

Which sport?Talking of Olympics I see Southport look like getting an upgraded stadium to be one of the facilities for the Olympics.
Strong just get stronger![]()
Which sport?
Maybe soccer? They didn’t say. Just said that it had been earmarked to be upgraded to be suitable as a stadium for the Olympics.

You seem to be dancing around specifics with general commentaryIf a program is any good then there shouldn't be a need for ringing / recruiting a single person - they will make their way to that program automatically.

not here to bag anyone specifically - always felt that there are a few rules you work by:I suppose with both Maroochydore and Noosa now in QAFL perhaps less of this occurs on the Sunny Coastnot here to bag anyone specifically - always felt that there are a few rules you work by:
1. never ring a player U18 to come to your club - to play seniors or juniors
2. never use a position in Academy / Rep role to influence players
3. never make a kid travel major distances to play unless you are confident that they cannot get what they need closer to home.
Now that doesn't mean a player won't still come to your club but at least you know they are coming because they are desperate to play under you / or with your club. ie the program / culture will be the attraction, not the chat coming out of a person's mouth.
