Early call Ablett. The Surfers boys have played well above their salary cap payments for years now (in my opinion). I'd be surprised if they're not competitive at the very least.

Really that wouldn’t surprise me as there has been rumours Nick Malceski has been trying to poach juniors from the other 3 Gold Coast QAFL clubs. Ones linked to the Academy.

I would reserve judgment on all teams until after at least 4-5 rounds ..

I’ve heard of 1 contracted (unbeknown to Lab) opposition player contacted them to make a move.

I think it’d be assumed they aren’t contracted if they approach you, but I’m not sure tbh

Are we talking about honour amongst thieves here? I reckon any club who is approached by a quality player will listen regardless of contract or not. And if we're talking about approaches by the club to a player Id reckon that happens more than many may think with the start being social media with players across clubs connecting under the guise as "checking in"

Any news on where the VFL players will align themselves now that they are free agents?

From what I understand it is up to the individual player as to what club he aligns with. I still think both Southport and Aspley haven’t finalised their lists of 40 contracted players yet.
