Just on a different topic what’s everyone’s thoughts on how Southport vfl players Will align themselves next year.Obviously due to location the two sunny coast teams won’t be involved. We’ve been asked by headquarters to give our opinion!Could be a very big advantage to the Gold Coast teams if like this year up to 4 vfl players could play for their aligned qafl club.Love the idea of each club having a marquee player that is exempt from both points and salary cap!Just have to find one😂
They should be able to pick whatever club they want to play at. It’s not the VFL players fault he’s on the list.

They can. The mini draft was abandoned before 2021 season. However there are restrictions on how many can play for any given QAFL senior team in any given game so they should consider that.
Reassessing the points allocated to VFL players up from one, if that happens, will definitely throw a spanner in the works for the QAFL clubs that bump the 50 points every week if having 2-3 VFL players were 2-3 points and that suddenly because 10-15

The sharks have asked the VFL if players can play where they won't in 2022( meaning junior club ), and it has been granted just like in Victoria. So about 4 -5 have nominated there home junior clubs in Victoria if they are not required for VFL duties. ( Hope no more lockdowns ) Two recruits have signed on the back of this, not picked for the VFL can fly home and play with their Amateur club and see family .

This is bizarre - so a bloke finds out Thurs night he got omitted (or maybe Wed) and then is endeavouring to find a flight to get home that weekend?? Why bother playing here?

Im sure Southport and nominated club will split the fares

Not following too hard Briz... :) Yes! a month or so ago announced.. :)
I thought I read it, just wasn’t sure, and my memory isn’t always the best.

Are they playing QAFL this year?

Any word where some of their players from this year are playing next year?

Yep - QAFL it is for the Hornets and from recent announcements look like they are retaining some of their better talent. Will be interesting to see how the cards fall come April next year

The $$ isn't really the issue - quite a few FIFO players in Qld that head to Vic each weekend (or once did). It's more the uncertainty of it all. Have nfi why anyone would agree to that as a player except that they don't want to upset an apple cart at a club they have nothing to do with in Qld?

They have mostly Queenslanders on the list , a few Vics. Most ex Suns and young Queensland Academy kids.
So the Gold Coast-based QAFL clubs will benefit greatly from this, right?

Broadbeach - Kwaby Boakye, Andrew Boston, Rhys Clark, Ryan Gilmore, Rhys King, Connor Nutting, Michael Selsby, Eethan Reeves
Labrador - Tom Fields, Charlie Ford, Dylan Fyfe, Charlie Lang, Michael Manteit, Tom Miller, Fraser Thurlow, Jesse Travaglini
Palm Beach Currumbin - Ashton Crossley, Brayden Crossley, Jacob Dawson, Mitch Johnson, Corey Joyce, Jesse Joyce, Brodie Murdoch, Brad Scheer
Surfers Paradise - Daniel Charlesworth, Matt Doran, Brad Lynch, Lukas Webb, Josh Williams

Any ex Lions there?
Negative. All Gold Coasters, former Suns academy players and some Victorians.

retaining a huge portion of them, how that will work with the points cap is anyones guess.

However, no change points system has been announced - so with 90% of decent players in QLD already signed somewhere they can't change the system now - ludicrous.

Any word on who might be signing for the Lions VFL team?

More news from my Broady .... gun full back in James Gledhill is staying for 2022 ...great news.
Sad news is gun Tyrone Armitage has announced his retirement ,,, very very good player .

Reckon there will be a few challenges around Southport listed players being aligned with just Gold Coast Clubs and no Brisbane Clubs. Will definitely compromise competition.

Maybe there needs to be a draft on their list again so every club gets players rather than just 4 clubs?

Fair enough if they are club juniors etc but all the interstate players need to be put into a draft you would think?

At the very least, all Southport VFL-listed players should be 5 pointers for QAFL purposes.

Given that the salary cap is clearly doing nothing to "equalise" the comp, would it be too much to ask to have a points cap that actually served its purpose?

Agree still me , but not sure how they fix it? Local players obviously have to stay with local/ junior club and Vics that want to travel home can. Anyone else can go into a Mini draft as you said.
Hammelmann staying in Brisbane heard last night? Morningside or Aspley
