What's going on with Keays?

Carrying something?

He's been down for a while except in a couple of towelings. Never the most polished performer but usually an ever-present workhorse, always up and about, always involved.
I don't think there's anything wrong with him, he's just become a very boom or bust player for us. And when people put attention on him he's usually on the bust side of things.

Michalanney on Elliott was so obvious that our coaches outsmarted themselves. You just set and forget that matchup.

Yep. As soon as they tried Max in the middle, I knew the coaches were cooked. Can't play a genuine mid in there like Pedlar, but can put a defender coming off a 5 week hamstring in.

We have a few players whose best lifts the whole team eg Thilthorpe (double-teamed and scragged all night), Walker, Rankine (suspended), Rachele (inj.), Keane and Worrell, ANB, even our Energiser bunny Keays can inspire others
BUT
Dawson is our talisman. When he's ON, the team is ON. When he lifts, the team lifts.

Watching a clean-take, clean-disposal player like Dawson fumble and hack-kick under Collingwood pressure was disheartening :sadv1: and most of his teammates followed suit.

Allowing Sidebottom so much room all night
He is a major influence every time
Why the **** don't we get someone to go near him? Has he got a raging case of viral ****ing herpes or someyhing?
Any set-up we do at stoppages we seem to always leave a man free because we want an extra defensive side of the stoppage. Last time it was Pendles, this time it was Sidebottom and he got a few goals from it.

Pedlar isnt a genuine mid.

He could be.... but not yet. I wouldnt have been bothered if we actually tried it though.

Coming into work this morning bloody sucks, so flat 😞

I've honestly learnt to let it go. Blokes are getting paid 500k a year win lose or draw, why should I let the result affect my life?

I ride the highs and lows during the game, but once it's done, on to the next.

In the off season we need to overhaul how we use the ball. There were some good signs earlier in the season but we've gone back to grinding, even in our wins.

We completely bypass our wingmen. Curtin had a good patch on the wing this season only by becoming a roaming CHF and clunking pack grabs.

Not by being an outlet for mids to use as we spread from contests.

We bomb forward while the wingmen watch. The best teams turn inside ball into outside ball so that the ball can be used effectively more often.

Good teams also switch the ball through their wingmen and half backs. GWS get the ball into Whitfield's hands at every opportunity for example so that he can set up play. When we switch it's only ever though our key defenders.

We opt for an even spread of contributors but that also means we evenly get the ball into the hands of our best and worst users

We need to understand that more touches from players like Curtin, Cumming, Milera and Taylor is better, so get the ball into their hands. Fewer touches to the O'Brien, Laird, Keays (when not in his range of capabilities) types

As much as Jeff liked to antagonise this year, I think his general contribution to the forum was good

Probably best he wasn’t around for this game, though
He was a good poster before he became a flog after a win.

Last night was proof why some of us were sceptical and why gloating after minor round wins and carrying on like a tool was a flog move.

He’s closed his account now so he’s not here to cop it back. Hope he comes back one day to face up to it.

Quaynor indigenous?...he is ghanaian

We have been re-educated that indigenous is the 'new' way to describe Aboriginal people, which is incorrect as everyone is indigenous (to somewhere). If the term indigenous is used in this context it should be 'indigenous to Australia'.

As you say Quaynor is indigenous (as we all are), in his case it's to Ghana.

Aboriginal people are indigenous to Australia but Aboriginal is never used anymore for some reason.

I think we're not getting the ball in deep enough. When we do it's too crowded. Keays can't kick 50 but over the last half a season all his opportunities have been from 50+.

As an inside mid, Dawson is actually an average player. His best work is around the ground or taking big marks.

Time to get him on the outside a greater percentage of the time, and to get him some easier opportunities to set up play without being under immense pressure. Unfortunately we need some mid time from him as he's still our best but I'd be giving much more time across half-back (Laird to mid) and wing (Curtin to mid).

Not sure sending him forward is a great idea when we are struggling massively to move the footy. This is a once a game 'ace in the pack' type move when needed but shouldn't be Plan A as it will be even harder to get clean footy.

Yeah I know they're only stats, but complaints about the midfield performance perhaps aren't so warranted.

Looks pretty even slightly in our favour. One of the few times you can say that about the Crows.

Yes, Nicks changed our gameplan and it failed miserably. We haven't put a premium on winning the midfield and yet have won.

Nicks moves Laird (and Keays) into the midfield to win (poor) clearances which played into Collingwoods hand beautifully. McCrae gave Nicks a masterclass.

How about Keays' shot from 50m?

He can't kick any further than about 45m out.
(Keays calling for the ball from RoB in the last and missing the snap has attracted a lot of negative attention, but:
--- Keays has been a good snap at goal at close range all year
and
--- RoB kicked ootf from 25-30m out on a slight angle in the first, with a dry ball.)
Didn't quite make the distance. The two ruckmen compete...
Cameron marks uncontested while ROB is busy falling down.
On another occasion, similar situation in the last, didn't RoB chest-bump one of the Daicos boys :eek: instead of tackling him?? Wtf?
A decent tackle would have created htb.
RoB was a lumbering-log liability last night.

He had someone up his arse all night, so to speak. Normally, he gets into a lot of space.

We didn't switch much because we couldn't. They didn't switch much becaise they didn't need to.

A Collingwood player went down in the middle of the ground after Tex kicked our opening goal. Wonder if it has something to do with that.
Several of them flop artistically (Neymar-like, but better-disguised) at the slightest contact.
There was one in the third quarter where the Coll. player was brushed lightly by an arm, dropped face-forward like he'd been shot and killed, but bounced up sprightly after he got the free.
