I think some umpires at this level don't really have an understanding of how to play the game.
If you nit pick you will blow your whistle all day.
My way was to pay the obvious and let th 50/50s play on.
But any foul play was pulled up very quickly as it can exclaute very quickly.
But ATM the new rules are still confusing for umps who get 100k a year to do it.
Shouldn't expect too much from local umps.
Not sure how the numbers are for umps in Brisbane comps.
But it looks like they are light on to me.
So you get what available and that's it.
Let's be honest here in the twos you supply field and goal.
They gave up on boundary as it was all to hard.
It flows down hill lads and were at the bottom with the bucket.
Correct - HQ make it clear you're at the bottom of the barrel and priority list and just suck it up

Could have also stayed in the same division as well. But obviously looking for that elusive back to back div 2 south and div 2 north premiership.

Might have something to do with having to travel 200+km 4 times a year with borders still opening and closing? Not located in the GC bubble that often gets exemptions when these things happen

Bit of both mate. About 4 injured and rest either work or planned things prior to season starting but yes think date trapped a few but not all of them.

Footy not a priority as it was in our day mate. Seems to get pushed aside for varying reasons nowadays 😂

Think that's very true actually SM - not necessarily a bad thing (in terms of balance) but probably reflects a certain sense of individual vs team outlook that seems to permeate through other areas of life these days

Totally understand that Skyfire and do appreciate they get out and have a crack. Just get very bemused when they try and be very technical and pay 50 m penalties for very minor issues and then miss howlers or 17 year old kids getting slung and knocked out cold in first senior game.

Hard to front angry parents and a kid that will now miss 4-6 weeks if he even plays again this season.

Understand we are all human and make mistakes, but need to protect the kids we are all trying to develop.

Yeah not sure a guys age should matter at all if you are playing senior footy. If he needs more protection then others then possibly isn't ready to play. Or the guys around him need to take it on board more?
Appreciate ups the emotions when it is a young fella vs the knarly 30 yr old but bottom line imo is that due care applies across every player not just those who aren't eligible to have a beer post game...

gee whiz - I could argue most levels!! Not sure the guys who umpire at QAFL level would have really high footy IQ's. That's an observation, not a criticism, but would make for a lot better umpiring imo too. How you put that into a 20yr old who doesn't know much about the game I'm not sure other than taking him / her to games and sitting with them.

School hols impacted apparently too.

At the end of the day, the powers that be will dictate and or allow who should play where.

But trying to predict where outbreaks will occur is like trying to find gold without a metal detector.

The reality is Kenmore should be playing division 1 and any side who is south should play in the south comp. NSW teams should play in a stand alone comp as per the covid situation. Makes no sense to burden sides on the north side because south side counterparts can't or won't travel (I don't mean to make that sound personal either).

However, as I have said clubs are governed by the bosses that be at the top of the chain, and like all of us, we play to those rules and boundaries to do what we think is for the betterment of our club.

It will be interesting to see how the south side premiership winners from last year go against North side premiers this week.

Agreed, however pot shotting Kenmore who are well within their rights to play in this league when Park Ridge, Alex Hills, Moorooka, Yeronga, Jindalee, Ipswich all classify themselves as North is a bit unfair IMO. Most people in here have tipped them to come bottom 4-5 so doesnt make sense really. Just needless whinging

I didn't mean it as a anything other than an opionion.
But unless you've played a fair bit of footy ( doesn't have to be a high level)
You really don't understand the game that well.
Would love to see ex players giving it a go.
But maybe the incentives are just not good enough.
They would be better off going to training at a club than with each other.
I would welcome them at kedron.
I'm certain they would learn a lot more.

How many sides on the south side (as listed above) were given the choice to play in either comp? (and when I say choice, I mean given the choice or lobbied HQ and asked to be placed in that comp). If a line was drawn about what is north and south (logically the river could be used a reference), the comps would look vastly different.

This is not a needless whinge either. To me, such decisions interfere with decisions made at club level that have potential consequences for failure of success of a football club. Clubs are essentially not for profit businesses, using turnover to create outcomes, and those outcomes hopefully lead to success on the field. If a club plans for success and puts things in place within their environment to achieve such things (e.g. money, resources, training, recruiting etc),and part of that planning was based on what league division they have been told they play in or where others would be placed.

How is that fair?

I can take the COVID issue as a possible reason why some sides should play north. However, and logically, I would expect clubs who are south side to rejoin the south comp once this pandemic is properly controlled.

I dont see how Kenmore makes any difference.
Yes you can argue that they got special treatment regarding dropping back.
Givin past decisions made on other clubs.
But the north south thing is a smoke screen.
It's never been north south.
Bring back the divisions and play in the comp you belong in.
Then lower division clubs have a pathway.
Hopefully this will happen next year.
The lopsided numbers in comps doesn't do the development of the game any favours.

There were many good games on the weekend but how good was the yeronga vs moorooka game, Yeronga had plenty of talent with a 16-year-old playing and dominating through the midfield and forward Kobi Gallagher (no.55), former o&m player and NAB AFL star Jayden Gallagher with a powerful left foot (no.59) destroying the opposition definitely a player to lookout for, Former Brisbane lions, Collingwood player Anthony Corrie (no.18) being dangerous in the forward line kicking 2 from stoppages, Tyler keays brother of Tyler keays from Brisbane and currently at Adelaide was quick. Yeronga is definitely a club to look out for this year.

Looks like the Gallagher brothers and Sam Platz the three big recruits of the year.

In the words of Liam Neeson from Taken - "Your arrogance offends me."

I was thinking a few of their Colts may have aged out and stuck fat with the club.
Which is great for them.
I'm sure when they came in this would have been part of the plan.
Good luck to them.
Having umpired for the last few years as well.
I'm staying out of that conversation.
But round one showed us a bit on results but it's a long year.
I we be more interested around round 9 when everyone has had to back up week after week.
