'Questions that don't warrant a thread' Thread - Part 2

Went Xmas shopping recently and looked around a book store (yes, they still exist). Instinctively, I went to check out the sports books expecting the same old stuff and was pleasantly surprised to see a new book called 'Dipper - Life on the Rollercoaster'. I had no idea another Hawk had published an autobiography (as I usually snap them up regardless of which ex-player it is).

So... if you're looking for a gift for a Hawks fan, this may be a nice surprise for them. Unless someone is buying it for you, in which case I've just destroyed the surprise. Sucks to know everything. :p
he was signing at chirnside park sat and i hear he will be at chaddy next weekend

Don't want to start a thread about it so ill just put it here. Was just thinking about this the other day, when Spida Everitt left Hawthorn it was reported it had something to do with Clarko's game plan and/or Spidas roll in the team, he wasn't "buying in". Does anyone have any actual details about this? What was Clarko asking Spida to do that Robby Campbell, Simon Taylor and Brett Renouf could do.

There was more to it then that, my mum worked with spida's old man and he pretty much said Spida couldn't stand Clarko and pretty much hated him. Clarko was ruthless early on and he caught a few older players offside but he had to clean the deadwood out and rejuvenate the list and it proved to be successful.

Spida is a different cat and beats to his own drum, at a guess I would say he wouldn't be the easiest player to coach. His old man is actually a very nice gentleman too.

Cheers, that sounds about right.

Fox Footy last night, R19 came on and I watched the last 45 mins of the Geelong Game, first time since that night… Geez, we played some tough footy that night to come back (no Buddy) but amazing how much we managed to blow it in the last 2-3 minutes, blokes hitting the post, chances to put them away, Puopolo going for the impossible volley goal, the transition to Selwood where Sewell went to spoil rather than corral him….

R1 can’t come quickly enough.

I still think if Puopolo had gone the scissor kick ala Zlanta Ibrahimovic it would of gone through...just hope he's practicing it through the pre season.

I too watched it and it was a great game, when we were coming back, Isaac Smith was going nuts in the celebrations of our goals, shows how much we want to beat them and hopefully next year we will. Thinking about 2012 hurts alot, that game hurts but mainly the GF, we were the best team and we blew our chances, I hope the boys have that fire in the belly and come out and put in another great year and this time take the glory!

You are right in saying Spida is a different cat, but he can also be a good cat.

I've met the bloke, was introduced to him by an ex-hawk player. When we left him, my mate (ex-Hawk) asked "how do you 2 know each other".
Only because Spida treated me as he did every other person who was there. Which was players, officials & then me. Spoken to him a few times since & he's no different

Yeah he is, I think on these boards most seem to hate on him a lot, but I've heard very good things from people that know him personally.

Hay folks,
All the talk about where is buddy at, will he leave etc. (I don't think he will).
I'm just wondering where Roughy is at in terms of contract and free agency. He's the one I'm worried about getting itchy feet and having a look around. Mind you I don't know how many players will not think that if we have a chance again this year and don't win it.
Thanks in advance.

Not saying we should dump Clarko or anything along that line so please don't read anything into the following:

Does anyone here think that the Chief would make a good AFL Senior Coach & why/not?

I think he'd have a great brain for the game but I don't from what I see on TV, he doesn't suffer fools too well & I wonder how his 'people skills' are.

Interested in feedback.

Leigh Mathews. Was he better as a rover or forward? I have not been able to find this out. Apologies if this is an irrelevant question.

I'd like to think he was at his best as a goal kicking rover, personally. He dominated around the packs and often turned a game on its head from sheer individual brilliance. When age started to slow him down, he applied the same sort of skill and aggression by remaining in the forward half of the ground. He certainly knew where the goals were throughout his career, that's for sure. Freakish.

To be fair he is probably only just stiff, he is better than Maxwell and M. Johnson so he should be 9th or so.
I thought Cox and Dick were stiff

But there was a Johnson.

Yes, sadly, Cox and Dick were stiff, but with no Ball, it is hardly surprising.

Roughead signed a four-year contract at the end of 2010. He'll most likely be an unrestricted free agent when he comes out of contract, but the club does have two years up its sleeve to extend his contract.

He's always been very close with Lewis and Franklin, he's vice-captain of the club, so it would be difficult for him to walk away from all that to chase some extra dollars in his pay packet.

I ask the question not because of money but because if we haven't won another flag by this time then players will be starting to think (if they aren't thinking it already) will it happen again? That could lead a few to looking for a change. It would be a tradgedy if this team didn't win another flag (I'd take a guaranteed 1 more) but 08 must seem so far away for the players now. It must be driving them crazy.

I guess they could always head over to St Kilda or Richmond to find success? As Nathan Buckley found out, changing clubs does not guarantee premierships, even if you got to choose your club. Still, to achieve premiership glory (and he made no secret of the fact that was why he changed clubs), FIGJAM left the Brisbane Lions in the late 90s to win flags with, of all clubs, Collingwood. How did that work out for ya, Nath? Basking in the glow of premiership glory are we? Could have been worse... just imagine if the Lions went on a berserk period of success after he'd left and won 2, even 3, flags in his absence?
