As much I respect your opinion and admire the effort you put in, I really dislike the prospect of getting Griffiths, TDL and Duncan. Well getting them at those picks anyway, Duncan at 23 is okay though
I knew those first two would not have been popular with Eagles fans but come and see me in three years if you still think the same. Griffiths is the Selwood equivalent in this draft. He is the most talented KP available I think. I dare say if I had given him to you in the second round you would have been very happy to have him.

Dennis-Lane is getting a lot of attention from both Freo and West Coast and I think if West Coast want him they might have to go second round for him. He suits your needs down to the ground I just think you are buying into how everyone else rates him rather than what he can do for your team.

Happy with Carlisle + Sewell

Last 2 picks would go:
Kyle Hartigan and Michael Barlow (assumed the draft works out this way).

In the 30s there are a few questionable choices, but overall great detail and great insight. Nice to read a different view on the draft and nice to read some new names.

sydney actually has 2 picks in the 4th round (54 & 55). You actually have west coast with pick 55.

apart from that huge effort.

Once again we reach the point in the mock draft cycle where we all start locking in players to certain picks.
The process takes on that of a popularity contest.
Just because 15 mock drafts say player x will go at 5 then that's what will happen.

The only thing certain is that there will be suprises
There will be sliders
There will be rising stars
An in the end if any mock draft eeked out a 50% hit rate on selections they'd be a legend.

It just doesn't happen that way.

Here's a mock draft done by somebody who obviously knows his stuff.
These things are invaluable for their profiles more so than their selection accuracy.

So Quigley hasn't picked some players that you want for your club.
Be thankfull that he's bothered to take the time to pass on his research.

Magnificent effort.

Doggies have a 4th pick (#76) or so. Would there be any small/mid forwards or running defenders (long term Gilbee/Hargrave replacement) that you like still around there? I know you mentioned there was a lot of depth in HBF's this year.

Firstly, this is an epic, epic read, and I mean that only as a compliment, it is as full of quality as it is full of quantity.

As for Richmond, I like the predominantly midfield selections. Firstly, people forget that Richmond will lose quite a bit of midfield to it's team, it's already lost Johnson. Bowden and Brown, while not always playing directly in the middle did play a peripheral part. In five years time Cousins will be gone. In five years our midfield will be Cotchin, Deledio, Tambling, Jackson and Martin certainties, with players like White, Collins, Thomson, Polo pushing for selection. Our midfield looks good with a brownlow winner but once that disappears, it needs bolstering. Which is why our selections read impressive, fill needs while being best available according to Quigley.

I understand the need for talls but Richmond has holes everywhere. A pick using 35 and 44 for a tall isn't out of the order but all mids wouldn't be the worst decision especially as games are won in the midfield these days and usually we get hammered there. I agree with Dr. J that this is an immense effort and for those who don't know anything and are feeling miffed that that player who usually gets picked for your club isn't for some other player who usually is rated lower, get over it.

But as I know what Richmond need and is currently at, based on type, Quigley has made some fine selections for a team which seems to leak and give up goals and possession as a result of no real midfield presence and defense (which are linked these days) at an astonishing rate.

Love your work Quigley - and glad to see the name of a young Norwood boy in Gavin Roberts included. I'm not convinced he'll go in the ND, and may be more of a rookie prospect, but certainly is worth a punt.

Lewis Jetta would be a terrific addition to the Bulldogs side, and I would be quite happy if he was to go at 15.

You've obviously put in a lot of effort, and it's nice to see something a bit different. So I wish I could be a bit more positive in my feedback....

But it is not a good draft at all from a Fremantle perspective. We need tall forwards, tall defenders and genuine midfielders. But you only gave us one tall, and even that one is more of a Mackie type. While you gave us a couple of half back flankers, which is probably the last thing we need (and Broughton and Hayden are very good disposers off half back).

Also, Fremantle have a fifth round pick after delisting Foster last week.

On a positive note though, I like the Troy Taylor pick. :)

Guys like McAdam, Davies, Gordon, Roberton and Roberts could all be around at teh end of the draft. None are certainties to be selected and I think look good in teh running defender role.

Good effort, but I would hate that draft from a WCE perspective. TDL is only worth a rookie pick IMO and I wouldn't waste either pick 22 or 23 on him. No heart and will go missing at AFL level. Let the Dockers take him if they want, seeing as they are in such desperate need of that type of player

I can't see us using Pick 7 on Griffiths, but after reading how highly you rate him I would hope that he will fall to 22 or 23.

I'd like us to take Sheppard with 7, Lucas being another safe bet, with Butcher being my preferred option if we were to take a KPP.

And i'd rather take a punt on Taylor or Christensen with pick 23, rather than, as you put it well, a 'safe' pick in Duncan.

Good read :thumbsu:

I didn't give you guys a key position forward but realistically I thought I hit most of your other needs.

Inside mids - probably your biggest need as you have very few guys who can win their own ball - Cunnington and Hutchins. Cunnington suits your needs a hell of a lot better than Morobito and I think he improves your midfield a hell of a lot. Hutchins is solid and is pretty good value where I took him.

Outside mids / Flankers - Peake (and Drum) going from your back half I thought you could use a guy or two back there particularly ones who can use the ball well - Menzel is very underrated and Winmar should again be good value if he is there at 49 and I couldn't pass him up when he was on the board. Can you honestly see Freo passing Winmar at 49 if he is there?

KPD - you have a pretty bare cupboard - Reid has a lot of potential and he is going to be a key position or nothing. No way does he end up as a Mackie type player. He doesn't have the skills or the temperment. That said I can understand you preferring others available as I did pick him more on potential rather than performance.

Goals - you need scoring options - I did not give you a KPF but I gave you a goal scoring marking target who your team apparently loves a round later than most expect.

Honestly I would expect Freo to be pretty happy with an outcome similar to this on draft day. They have gotten value at ever step along the and although they didn't address every need they did address the most immediate ones and got guys with potential to not just be servicable but to be very good.

Opinions differ though I guess.

brilliant Quigs.

Let's be honest, the draft is not going to pan out as you have suggested. Although I think it could end up more unpredictable than many are saying.

But this is the sort of phantom I'll bookmark. It represents what a phantom should be about. Informing people on the players, their skills and weaknesses. It is also based on your thought, and not the consensus of others.

I've looked back at some of your past phantoms...and although players are more often out of place, the descriptions are always spot on.

Great read Quigley and good work.

However i share the sentiments of the other WC posters. I would be livid if we drafted your selections. Duncan at 23 is the only one that fits the money in my view.

Thanks Dave. I have given up trying to work out exactly where players are going to be taken and more on where I think they should. Then in a couple of years I can look back and go you know what Rioli at 5 was pretty damn close to the mark. And I will forget that I also had Hill at 32 ;)

West Coast has a plethora of guys who can win a mass of their own ball but once they do they turn it over time and again. Blue collar is often used to describe those types of players. Here I am thinking of the likes of Masten, Priddis, Swift and the newly acquired Dalzeill.
Masten and Swift are not blue collar. Interesting read otherwise.

Fanstatic effort! Don't know where you get the time to collate so much information about prospective draftees?

Carlton has recently delisted Cameron Cloke, which means it has pick 59. Won't mind Carlton recruiting a HBF with good kicking skills and pace to burn. Someone who can eventually run through the midfield.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Quigley, legendary as always mate. I love the fact that you back yourself and are willing to make your own calls on certain facets of a player's game. Huge thumbs up.

Great stuff Quigley.

Wouldn't be unhappy with Carlisle and Sewell as our 1st two picks. Addresses a couple of weaknesses for us in tall KPD and in and under clearance type.

Did you have any thoughts about Claye Beams to the Pies with one of our late picks? Think he could be a chance.

A very nice read, though if the draft actually panned out like that I would be spewing.
