Happy with that but if he pings it... you can just hear the chorus. "Why risk your best player in a dead rubber one week before a bye".
If he does this, it will be viewed by everyone in football as the dumbest decision in football for years.

Let's just hope he gets through unscathed.
It would be hard to beat Ports decision to play Rozee the week after doing his hammy.

With the rumour of ROB asking to go back to Victoria next year, does anyone think this is the reason he has been dropped the last couple of weeks ?

Or purely performance based ?

As much as I wanted Brodie dropped, no one deserves to be outright abused on social media

I agree that Brodie doesn't deserve that, however the club created this problem.

He should have been dropped weeks ago and because of the club's inaction it's created huge angst and frustration which has spilled over into social media.

It wouldn't be directed at him personally, but at the club for finally doing what it should have done weeks ago.

I'm not sure I like VC of the club complaining about the fans on social media.
The senior guys are on good coin and are meant to be out there leading the way.
That comes with a degree of responsibility with your performance each week.
If the teams been terrible for a long time and you don't perform, don't get upset when you get called out for it

Smith finished the season really well on the wing last year. Back to defence to begin this year and has had an ordinary season.

If you and/or the team isn't doing well and you think the negative comments will effect you, avoid reading social media.

He has been a very good player for the Crows. Just not as sharp this year, especially with his disposal.

It is strange how Smith's weapon was his speed and kick, yet his kick has deserted him.
Laird's weapon was his clean hands, yet this year he's constantly fumbling.
ROB once upon a time could take a mark, but he couldn't take one to save himself these days.
We were a very good attacking team last year, but turned defensive over the off-season and lost what we had.

Have we concentrated too much on our weaknesses and abandoned our strengths? Individually and as a team?

Anyway, good changes. Good to see Nick Murray back. Will be interesting to see how our back line takes shape with the return of Murray and then Worrell. I think the trio of Keane, Butts and Borlase have done well. I'd be tempted to try Murray forward on his return.

We don’t want him to further harm his trade value

The thing with Smith is I think he could have still had a positive impact for us this year. Playing him when he was half injured did no favours for him. And moving him up to the wing like at the end of last season could have freed him up more and utilised his (albeit more hack like now) ling kicks into the fwd 50.

Plus having senior bodies around the kids is always good to give them a break.

The issue is not judging him on his form and fitness and managing that with rests or being omitted when required - instead seeing him languish when younger guys could be getting time into them turns the supporters on him. Again it's all down to the selectors/coaches.

If we has dropped him after the first few weeks and only bought him back when he was fresh and when injuries hit/kids needed a break we'd mostly all be fine with it. And Brodie probably would have been playing alot better too...

Still a great for the crows in my eyes and one of my favourite players of the 2010s era.

I wouldn't mind if he wanted to leave as it would open up a spot and I'd be keen to see us chase Ladhams from Sydney.

I think we could get him fairly cheaply from the Swans and he'd be an instant upgrade on ROB

Apparently he has a big contract, will he find suitors that will pay it ?
Hopefully there’s one poster on here that’s the recruiting manager for a Melbourne club.

The fact Smith even brought this up suggests reality has deeply hit home for the first time
Which is entirely on the coaches.

They should have been giving him honest feedback all season.

Some overrating of Peter Ladhams going on here..

Good decision. No point rushing him back just before the bye in a game we have little chance of winning.

Except it wasn’t a good decision at all, he tweaked it trying to prove his fitness. A good decision would have been to rule out Tigers and Swans games straight away and focus on rehab instead of trying to prove his fitness each week.

considering some of the shit you see on social media, I have a hard time believing anything Brodie Smith is copping is worthy of a moments thought. You’re in bad form mate, get over it.

Why is he even reading the comments? Does he normally read social media feedback on team selection?

Who was the last Crow to not have to be blasted out of the club? Who do we think there's a chance they went a year too early?
I thought we were pretty ruthless with Talia. He was only 29. I know there were plenty that wanted him gone, but that was heavily influenced by the desire for the club to commit to a full rebuild. It wasn't like he'd been awful for years on end prior.

Watched a doco of how Geelong became a club that no longer accepted mediocrity in 2007.
Essentially each player had to be accountable for their own individual performance.

We avoid that at every opportunity at this club.
When players finish up they are shocked to learn what they had been producing wasn't good enough.

I’ve heard Dwayne talking about back in the day for port they’d go back to the club and the coach would get each one up and read out their stats and basically tell the members if they’d played shit or not 😆
