Review R14: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Hawthorn Hawks

Have you heard of a dude called Troy? Last name Pannell? His favourite pet is a bulldog
No … I live under a rock … smh. What has that got to do with this today in relation to how umpires are given control as the one in charge ? So you are now suggesting one umpire in particular Stevie has a favourite pet and it is a hawk and he actively cheated in that match causing the crows to lose …. Or there are feasible issues with this team and to honestly live a life counting decisions by each umpire in a quarter, it’s your life.

No …. Your commentary originally that I refuted was that he took control from other umpires…. It doesn’t happen. Secondly so what if he makes more decisions … that can happen. Thirdly this idea that this umpire was somehow a factor in the game… come on hawthorn could claim they should win by more with an even free kick count in the first half. Anyway stay on the point without putting your what about ism. They do not take control of the play from other umpires.. simple as that
What a complete load of bullocks!

Commenting when you can't even be bothering to watch.

Do you deliberately argue on topics you can't even be bothering to research.

Another poster I will put in the complete waste of time basket.

No Kane … you obviously spent the time obsessing over the stats so just tell me the count. Another person gaslighting suggesting I have a problem when indeed I never commented on Stevic or the performance nor do I intend to obsess over the impact this had on the loss. Conspiracy theories aside, I will 1000 times stand by the fact that umpires do not take control of play from another. Your attempts to conflate this into another issue entirely is not something I can be bothered with.

Tell someone who will listen.

This is my last post with you.

Mate, if you're gonna come in that hot, make sure you know the rules
Um what does the way umpires assume control have to do with knowing the laws of the game. They are laws not rules … but you would know that right .. cause you have read them yeah. Show me the laws related to umpires assuming control.

Doesn’t want to disrupt the senior blokes, in his eyes, they have earnt it.
Yep; this is clear from his years of senior treatment/favoritism.
And I think that is Nick’s biggest weakness. He wants to be the good boss.
This is an impression I get, as well. That he wants to be their mate.
He might keep some actual distance between him and the players, which is important for respect and discipline purposes, but I can't see it <== I know; doesn't mean it's not there  .
I like the group cohesion; it's obvious when they play, but the Coach has to keep some separation from them.

Equally a problem is Nicks' lack of tactical nous and game day change-ups.
Mitchell made some changes, the Hawks came out looking like a different side after half-time and Nicks was clueless to overcome that. Proof: we kicked 4 points only, in the third.

When the game changes due to oppo changes, Nicks rarely responds, if ever, and certainly not quickly enough.
The players don't know what to do when their Coach doesn't know what to do.

Nicks is a handicap, the quality of our team means we win matches despite him.

Murphy selection was a predictable waste of time.

Tex selection was stupid - further evidence we're putting his milestone ahead of the team.

Milera ANOTHER nothing game.

What's happened to Hinge? Start of the season we were playing through him and he was great, now he's in man's land.

Smith, waste of time as the sub, he's just going through the motions.

Subbing Pedlar was stupidity.

What's happened to our forward line organisation and craft?

We have a top 4 list with a bottom 4 coach, every week he shows time and time again why we need to move beyond him ASAP.

Thought First Crack was spot on regarding the intelligence, or lack thereof, of the team.

We whinge in the comments about missed free kicks but the players apply little pressure sometimes. Need to do those little things in the clinches.

Also fair point about the personnel back for that game winning goals.

On field its just not good enough

Look at the 20 secs of football in the 8min highlights package on the afl website.
from 2:55 into the vid to 3:15.... @6.57 left in the second qtr.

Can anyone tell me what we are trying to do here and how it aids winning a game of football, this shit drives me insane.
The backslapping in the box had well and truly started by now.
Mitchell would have used this vision to highlight how to undo us at half time.

It might be oppo Coaches had noticed his output/impact and have put more time into stopping him?

Again, might be good preparation and Coaching by Oppositions who flood out F50, creating congestion.
From the good teams, there's more pressure on the ball-deliverers to our F50 resulting in more high bombs. Our talls are jumping against each other.
No plan B or C from Nicks.

There's only so much ball to go around too.

Milera and Laird have gone back
Worrell becoming more prominent

There are more players sharing the rebounding load
When your gameplan doesn't include fast transition, what's a bloke like Hinge supposed to do?

We kick straight we win. The game should have been out of reach with the dominance we had in the first half. But we'll start after the bye in 4th possie and only play 3 top 8 teams on the run home, so I don't get the negativity here.

Whilst there were some 'interesting' umpiring decisions in the 2nd half, it's not why we lost

There were some interesting ones in the first half for us. But the reality is, we should've been in front by enough that it didnt matter. I reckon 5 shots minimum we'd kick 8-9/10 times, and probably another 5 5/10. Was ridiculous

Dear Matthew,
You could have just said that in one of your Pressers instead of going to the trouble of making a BF account and posting in here
OR
how about teaching your players some composure and determination under pressure so they kick better for goal, both set shots and snaps?

P.S. Tell RoB to stay out of the F50 and to spend zero time horizontal in packs; he's NOT a mid.
Stop going back to the Murphy well. It's dry, mate.
'Rest' or 'manage' Tex in wet or slippery conditions (forget about his 300, too --- if he's good enough he'll make it next year; if not, bad luck).
Get games into Taylor, Bond, Edwards, Dowling, Draper, prettyplease?
OR
(best option yet) accept your deficiencies and resign, to give a better Coach a chance with this group.
Cite "personal reasons"; we'll accept it. :sneaky:

It stems from our teaching method. Dont make mistakes. So every time we have pressure we make mistakes.

I mentioned this 4 weeks ago and #CrowCast explained its because Tex is so cooked he cant even chop out a ruck .

Just need Crouch for the band to be back together

Of all the sub calls this is up there with the worst. Even a basic Div 1 ammo coach decision where subbing Tex off is the easiest made

Neither are happening
