The longer you get into your career, the more meaningful it is. Especially considering it’s a like for like in terms of role. Jones the other, but he’s more a wing/behind the ball type, it’s harder for him to compete with Murph for a small fwd/mid pinch hit spot.
Your premise is wrong anyhow - Pedlar has been picked over Murphy this season, the only reason Murphy got a look in was the Pedlar injury and his last game by default of Milera.

Still think Jones would be a better option
Yep. If Murphy's been a defensive forward then Jones is also good at the defensive mindset, probably about equal goalsense (both poor) but he's much faster, bigger tank, stronger, heavier, better aerially, bigger kick and probably slightly better field kick, can play mid just as well. I don't see what you'd lose really.

What stopped Pedlar being pulled from SANFL?
Timing? clubs seem reluctant to go outside their emergencies, don’t know - doesn’t matter - both have been selected 4 times this year but only one has been dropped.

Murphy was only selected after Pedlar got injured, and Nicks talked about taking a low risk approach to Pedlar coming back - who has a history of injury don’t you know.

The thing is i don’t fundamentally disagree with your caution on Pedlars practical output or ceiling, I’m just pointing out that Murphy is not the yardstick you should use.

From what we supporters can ascertain Murphy is selected on the basis of experience and game plan awareness (the system) - and has no discernible AFL level talents or attributes beyond covering ground and putting in fearless effort.

Pedlar is a natural forward, Jones is not!!

Would really love to see Billy Dowling get a run at it. Hardly put a foot wrong in back half of 2024 and has been consistent almost all year in the SANFL. 25 and a goal again on the weekend.
I cant believe he hasn't been given a chance this year.
Dowling definately doesn't look like one of Nicks favourites
He came in last year and performed really well and hasn't had a look in again

Smith sub, Milera replaces him.
Out Rachele and Murphy.

In -Pedlar and Dowling

And still would be better value than Murphy
If Max can do as well against the Tigers as he did playing the sane role as Murphy then I don’t see “position” as the be all and end all.

Nankervis has kicked 10 goals in the SANFL to Murphy’s 5, so he could play fwd.

Theres actually nothing positional stopping the Crows from rotating Curtin, Dawson and Max fwd to open up a spot for any of Bond, Dowling, Draper, Edwards or whomever else deserves a run.

Creative thinking we are not

It’s about Murphy/ jones playing the same roll
Same deal, both Jones and Murphy were drafted/recruited as midfielders from their junior footy, Murphy actually got recruited by us after playing exceptional SANFL football as a small defender, something he's never done at AFL level.

Laugh all you like Cleanhands, that's what initially got Murphy onto our rookie list.

Lachlan Murphy’s outstanding season with the SANFL Crows has been recognised with the prestigious Dean Bailey Award.

Murphy, the youngest member of Adelaide’s SANFL development squad, excelled in his first season of senior football after relocating from Victoria.

The 18-year-old was one of only four Crows to play every game of Adelaide’s SANFL season.

A courageous defender, Murphy averaged 16 disposals, four marks and three rebound 50ms a game as a mainstay of the Club’s SANFL backline.
Murphy ranked second at the SANFL Crows for effective kicks (126), handballs received (106) and rebound 50ms (51) and finished third at the Club for marks (72) and disposals (286). He also collected more intercept possessions (88) than any other Crow outside of League leader Tom Doedee.

Yep and he continues to make me laugh

How can it not matter? Murphy was favoured over Pedlar, you said it hadn’t happened, it just did. You can argue Pedlar hasn’t been dropped, bit it’s irrelevant, he’s playing SANFL whilst Murphy plays AFL.

Yes, Murphy is a good sanfl player.

He was a very good SANFL small defender before we drafted him yet I can't recall him playing any small defender games at either SANFL or AFL since.
