We need better leg speed and strength in the backline. Our defenders were thrown aside by the Port forwards. Annoying that Ethan Hughes and Griffin Logue had interrupted preseasons. They are some
serious athletes. We had A.Pearce, Johnson, Wilson, Ryan and Blakeley. None would be considered battering rams. I wouldnt by scared dropping back with the flight of the ball in front of them. Our forwards looked petrified running with the flight ahead of Clurey and Howard.

Tucker stays in, they just need to stop ****ing around with where he plays or stop turning him into Blakely 2.0.

It’s interesting how the changes people want after that disaster are basically the same ones that everyone wanted 2 days ago, but our match committee knew better.

Let’s play Hamling and A Pearce as our key backs next week. Who’d have ever thought of that.

Basically sacrificed any chance of a round 1 upset with ridiculous conservative selections

Thought Cam tried his guts out today.

Yep, I had him as one of our positives. Still a fair way from where i'd accept long term, but it was a step in the right direction. Especially given the conditions are far from ideal for him.

If we're going to just bomb the ball into the forward line, we need players who can take a contested mark. McCarthy isn't that sort of player, but that's OK as long as we don't have Kersten as well. If we're going to keep playing like that, we have to replace Kersten with Cox or someone else than can catch the ****ing thing.

There will obviously be changes but our performance was just plain bad. Everyone looked like they forgot how to tackle and just looked plain sloppy.

The obvious players will go first. ie. D.Pearce, Sutcliffe

Not sure why Kersten gets a gig ahead of someone like Cox, Cox just seems to have a natural footy awareness about him..

Ballantyne is a waste of time, he tries hard but I don't know why he persists with trying to be a target down the line and further to that why our players kick to him when he is..

Because the coach tells him to?

Reckon we need to go back to basics a little. Walters as a small forward with bursts in the middle, Blakely and Fyfe as full time mids and Tabs as a FF.

Out: Johnson, DP, Sutcliffe, Kersten
In: Hamling, Hughes, Nyhuis, Cox

Get a defence going that can actually defend and structure up a forward line around 2 guys that can play conventional CHF/FF roles. After we get a bit of stability we can drip feed in the young mid's.

its all been said but yes, out - Balla, MJ, Dan Pearce, Kersten, Sutcliffe.
Play Blakely as a midfielder & Tucker on a wing. Get some defenders in like Hamling and Hughes.
Get Darcy in, kid plays with heart.
Lyon needs to be on notice. He can't keep playing the same old hacks and playing the likes of Blakely as a defender. He's going to ruin him. Blakely would be a starting inside mid and practically every other team in the league. He's a gun around a stoppage.
I'm starting to think Lyon has lost the plot and I'll be convinced of it if persists with Ballantyne, Pearce and Johnson when they are so obviously cooked. Sutcliffe actually wasn't that bad.
Ballantyne is useless, he adds nothing at this point and has become a liability as has Johnson.

All perfectly stated apart from Sutcliffe not being that bad. He may not have turned it over at his usual rate, but he was brushed aside countless times and failed to make one tackle despite being in and around many contests.

I think we need one stopper type player to play on opposition best small. Spurr would be first choice but for now i would play Nyhuis,

I agree with most these changes besides the ballas and Kersten calls. The i50 delivery was putrid, give them one more go at it.

In saying that I do believe there will only be one change and that will be Hamling. They won’t swing the axe too early and omit 5 players after rd 1...get real! We’re a very conservative team these days. If we play like this for another 2 weeks then it will happen.

In: Hamling
Out: Danyle Pearce

We were too short in the back half of the oval yesterday.

In: S Hill, Hamling
Out: Kirsten Sutcliff/D Pearce

Thought we did OK in the ruck, although I would like to see a young ruckman being developed, I think the game is moving away from playing two ruckman.

I agree with the post about who comes into the 22 should make the difference. I can only assume that everyone who wants Hughes in has not seen any of his pre season form? Hughes has been terrible for peel the last 2 weeks playing in a team that has dominated. He needs to get better form under his belt, his backline turnovers and fumbles of late would kill us.

Ballantyne I didn’t think was too bad. At least he lowers his eyes when kicking into the forward line. Set up a couple of shots on goal.

For those that say say Lyon plays the same hacks - we played 2 debutants, 2 new players, 1 2017 players, 3 2017 new players, plus blakely at half back, Walters in midfield which were both recent moves. There is also Langdon and tucker in the team who are still very inexperienced.

The reason we lost Imo is poor decision making with not hitting the open man and generally poor execution heading into half forward or into the 50. Do you think Ross instructions are hey guys what I want you to do is just bomb it in, 2 on 1, 3 on one doesn’t matter., and if you get a chance to do a 15 metre kick to a one on one in the middle of the ground - do it. While d pearce was a culprit here, so too were even Mundy and Fyfe.

There are still a lot of changes with this team over the last couple of years and going to take time to hell together. That being said my changes are:

In hamling
Out d pearce

Without seeing or knowing stats for peel game - would like to possibly see either Nyhuis, cerra, crowden or Sheridan in for Sutcliffe.

I think Stephen hill should get a run at peel first or if he trains the house down, he can come in.

Also possibly cox, Dixon, Darcy and apeness, Logue putting pressure on kersten spot.

Only real positive from the game is no injuries

I don’t.

We CANNOT have Taberner rucking
He must play as a CHF so Darcy must play

Danyle, Johnson, Sutcliffe to go.
Hamling, Darcy and Cerra, Switkowski or Crowden in
Kersten is gone too.

Tucker needs to play long minutes on the wing. He’s not one of those players who benefits from bench time. It allows us to play the youngest guys into the side
Hill needs a couple of weeks at Peel if this integrity of selection bull shit is followed. He’s barely trained let alone played.

I agree with some of your points here. Tabs is ok up the ground but then we lose our only real chance at a contested mark in the forward line. Would like Darcy in the team too, just don’t see how we can have 2 ruck men and have enough run. Darcy would need to improve a lot as a forward. How about Johnson rucking if hamling is back? For the future, something crazy like Banfield or Logue in the ruck ala grigg for a bit I wouldn’t mind trying.

I personally haven’t been that impressed with switkowski is the small sample size I have seen. If I didn’t know he was on our list, I would have assumed he was a peel local player and wouldn’t have stood out in any way.

I understand why teams have gone away from the 2 ruck strategy. Forward half pressure is a big thing right now and Richmond showed how effective it can be. But it doesn't make sense following that strategy when it doesn't match up with the strengths and weaknesses of our side.

We play Darcy and it means at least we can dominate the ruck all game long and give our midfield the best chance of first use.

Tabs then doesn't get thrown all around the ground and can station himself in the F50. At times then we can have two 200cm forwards (Tabs/Darcy) in the forward line while Sandi rucks. McCarthy plays as the 3rd tall and when Fyfe drifts forward one of them will get a geniune mismatch.

Kersten had 0 tackles and only 8 pressure acts for the game. I think Darcy can match that. I think this benefits our forward line and our teams future. We get games into young Darcy and ease the ruck load for Sandi.

No Johnson has to go.

I’d like Sandi and Darcy to rotate largely of the bench. I mention Switkowski as we looked a little slow up front and our pressure on their ball carriers from the back line disappeared after the first quarter
