Really? Watching on tv I didn’t see him start there once?
Was the 3rd rotation wingman

Certainly enough there to not lay blame for him going stateless before the sub was decided (his 1 handball was well after jones was standing at the boundary waiting for him to come off)

Berry: 13 touches, 2 clearances, only 5 contested possessions, under 300m gained, 1 score involvement for the entire game and went at 53% DE. As a full time mid. That’s a big fat huge nope from me.

But yes, Peatling was blatantly worse. Not even close. I couldn’t believe what he dished up.
And from the eye test, he was impactful with every touch. Yeah sure, he could’ve/should’ve gotten more of it, but we’re not a ‘death by 1000 cuts’ side

Curtin went at mid 40’s DE, but no-one’s gonna say he wasn’t impactful?

I simple cannot believe we have Dan Curtin.

It's like watching a 20 year old Patty Cripps. Only taller, more agile and a better mark.

It's redonk!
Or Bont.

Cripps plays for himself above team

Curtin is a team player like Bont.

Nothing can explain 1 disposal but just did not see him on the wing at all.
Was all Curtin and cumming

Context.

Gotta look at the context of the game. Tough, in the trenches. Inside mids on a hiding for nothing, free kicks being paid inconsistently and high high pressure disposals.

We won, what many you call "a big game". The minuatea is irrelevant. They have both performed well across the season and were challeneged this game. They will grow from it.

The same Newcombe who waltzed away with 9 clearances to Berry’s 2, yes.

Big fan of Berry’s resurgence this year. He used to be my avatar. He was poor tonight in my opinion. No big deal. Huge win. All that.

I'm not saying he was amazing offensively but IMO Newcombe had very little impact on the game despite those clearance numbers.

Just 2 score involvements from him

Don’t disagree there at all

All of the Peatling/Berry/Soligo trio seemed to battle. I think they struggled with the size and physicality of Day, Nash and Newcombe.

Our biggest weakness currently is that we lack that A grade second midfielder. Soligo is probably ideally suited as the Dion Prestia style third banana.

The good news is Curtin might end up being that second mid. Oh and Draper too.

Curtin was off with some of his kicking tonight, but he’s baby Jesus and the contested marks and beast mode running stuff just makes you forget about it.

I’m not at all concerned about Berry moving forward, and respect that he was clearly asked to focus on limiting Newcombe’s IMPACT and applying pressure to him as his number 1 task tonight.

Side note: Crouch is clearly never getting back in. It just doesn’t make any sense for our game style.

The first quarter was probably some of the worst footy we’ve played all season.

But it was only one quarter, and I commented at quarter time that there were still 3 quarters to go.

As poor as we were in the first quarter, we were sensational in the second quarter. That was last quarter last week-esque.

Every challenge the Hawks threw at us, we responded. Every challenge the umps threw at us we responded. In the end, Hawthorn relied too much on free kicks for their goals while we were pulling them out of everywhere!

We’ve got through the last 3 weeks 3-0 (all tricky games on paper). Let’s keep the throttle on in Perth next week!

A couple of interesting facts from tonight:

- Tonight was our first ‘home’ win at Adelaide Oval against Hawthorn (our other win against Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval in 2020 was a Hawthorn home game - what a strange year that was)

- Our last win and our last loss are both against Hawthorn!

We also had a pretty even spread of disposal stats.

Sog had 15. But far from a bad game.

This kind of game is far better than Dawson and Laird getting 30 plus each and no one helping at all.

Good Dawson and my god curtin is a star. Milera honourable mention. Defence stood up after q1

Bad a slow start, looked sore and slow turns out it was mental

Ugly I don’t generally bag umpiring but honest to go stevic looked good compared to that toner w***er. I’ve watched him umpire us for 3 years now, honestly shades of Troy panell
Toner was the umpire who allowed the Draper dive.
I've never forgotten him. #25
