Had a look at the game day thread and tbh at quarter time no one was really melting. No one really thought we’d burst back, but there was a fair bit of “time to step up” vibes

Usually in unanimous agreement with your assessments, but can’t agree with this. Berry provided very important drive from the middle of the ground after quarter time, and didn’t think he used it badly for someone in his position

Peatling, on the other hand, had maybe the worst game I’ve seen from one of our CBA midfielders in the past decade. Thankfully it didn’t matter
Peatling was still in the game trying, though. It seemed as if he needed last week's weather to be able to pick the ball up properly.

He needed to after his pusillanimous effort in the first: what was going on there?
Gave this post a  because of the unexpected and spot-on use of "pusillanimous".
Kudos.

Most posters would have simply said "... after his pus effort in the first", but you went the whole hog :sneaky:.

Berry: 13 touches, 2 clearances, only 5 contested possessions, under 300m gained, 1 score involvement for the entire game and went at 53% DE. As a full time mid. That’s a big fat huge nope from me.

But yes, Peatling was blatantly worse. Not even close. I couldn’t believe what he dished up.

I simple cannot believe we have Dan Curtin.

It's like watching a 20 year old Patty Cripps. Only taller, more agile and a better mark.

It's redonk!
Barrie Robran?

Berry was hard tagging Newcombe.

I've noticed the cheeky Nicks digs have diminished from you Mate. Is our current win/loss ratio finally broken that deeply ingrained sarcasm of yours?

EDIT: it broke me a month ago
Same here, but maybe 3 weeks.
Advantage: Breakfast is easier every day. I just pick egg off my face, whack it on toast etc ...

Ugly: The approx 100 supporters making aeroplane gestures at the Hawthorn team walking off at the end of the game. Why would we give a stuff about two minnow suburban clubs bantering over text messages?
Nah, Ginnivan brought it on himself when he kicked the goal and gave the crowd his ear. If hes happy to banter, he needs to cop the send-off.

Just sooky behaviour to flip the bird.

Worse than Rachel's teef jibe.

Play-on.

It's taken half a decade but we've finally erased the culture of stats over impact.

Can't recall a team putting in these sorts of wins where our highest possession winner is regularly in the low 20s

Yep...

Berry's defensive impact was important.

And will be in September....

Was at the game. Have to say that is probably the most electric game I have been to since the 2017 prelim. The crowd was going bloody mental.

That first quarter the Hawks were playing on their terms. Were running it up the ground, making it a contest and sucking us in, then using their workman-like midfield and slick hand skills to cut us apart. A few players had a shocking quarter - Peatling in particular.

The second quarter was a clear change, we made the ground wide. We kept switching. They didn't like it. Started to really look like a Crows game of football.

Thought we were going to run away with it in the third but you could see a clear change made by Mitchell - they tried using more width and started winning in the contest more.

Fourth was a thing of brilliance. Daws, Thilth, Tex, Rankine - elite. Shonky umpiring kept rearing its head.

Shout out to Nicks for switching the midfield mix up in the last when the game was to be won. Kept throwing Curtin and Rankine in the middle and it instantly made a huge difference. Put these guys where you want stuff to happen.

There is something different about this squad. Even when 30points or so down in the first and few goals down later in the game - didn't feel like we were screwed. We would absolutely cave in games like this for the best part of the last decade. I think we are in for a fun few years.
