Review R21: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Hawthorn

The atmosphere in the last quarter was electric. Can't wait for the Collingwood game.

The crowd was on last night. Even when we got our first goal, the crowd was still very upbeat and loud - and it just got better from there.

That last 30 seconds or so where everyone was on their feet was special. I don’t think I’ve ever seen everyone on their feet like that.

There’s something special happening

Howler is a bit tough. He didn't get his usual high possessions, a couple of ball-handling issues early, but I liked his tackling and second efforts. Have a look at the last 1/4.
Nup he had a very down game, skills were woeful, nobody's questioning his intent and attack on the game but that would be a game he would want to forget.

When will people learn that "having a future" is completely and utterly irrelevant when it comes to selection. Every club in the league selects for next week, and only next week. The only exception isn't when their season is shot to peices and they have a coach who has a job the following year.

That said, Bond will stay in because he's the Max replacement.
You actually believe that clubs only select for next week. Interesting take on developing a team.

Last night was Cook's chance to show wing is his role.

DC is taking on more midfield time. Not just CBA, but stoppage mid. Starting position Wing, but then chasing stoppages. What Rachele was doing and Murphy tried.

Not just patrolling the wing, ie a kick behind/ in front of play.

It is part of his midfield apprenticeship.

Cook had some genuine wing time. But struggled a bit.
Do they still do heat maps not the ones with possessions because nothing showed up on cooks.
But I didn’t see him play wing at all (on tv)
He only played 44% game time.

They iced his foot straight after the game. Saw it on the broadcast.

Thought, that's not a great sign
He had the first 5 minutes on the bench to start the last qtr, don’t tell me that’s a rotation thing with the game in the line.

Usually in unanimous agreement with your assessments, but can’t agree with this. Berry provided very important drive from the middle of the ground after quarter time, and didn’t think he used it badly for someone in his position

Peatling, on the other hand, had maybe the worst game I’ve seen from one of our CBA midfielders in the past decade. Thankfully it didn’t matter
Yep thought Berry took it out of the centre on many occasions. Think this is harsh.

2017 home finals were like that.

I sat near the cheer squad at the Bulldogs/Marval game and the atmosphere was great but last night was next level. The thing that made it special in that last minute was that it was spontaneous. It wasn't the "uncomfortable look around, wave your scarf and awkwardly sing along to an Inxs ballad" fake rubbish. It was raw emotion. Loved it.

It's possible but there is absolutely no doubt he had cramps and couldn't move that's why the trainer was out there

You could probably call it high HF. But he was patrolling the wing at times last night.

Really unsure on Cook. Has great skills. But at SANFL level he really is just a key forward.

Like Gunston or Fritch.

Can't seem to translate into more of a dynamic role.

Could he be the Tex replacement. With Fog more traditional CHF and Cook closer to goal?

O kicks, 0 Handballs, 0 Tackles in the last quarter.

His best quarter was his 3rd quarter. 3 kicks, 3 handballs and 2 turnovers to go with 1 tackle.

He had a howler. I am a huge Peatling fan, think he is our best of the 3 recruits and is having a brilliant season.

Its perfectly okay to accept a good player had a terrible night.

Dirty Hawks seemed to be holding his arms most of the night. Grubs

Now I’ve had cramps that are bad, but he was almost in tears.
And I've seen players with bad cramps screaming in agony, why on earth would Mitchell send their best player out there if there was even a hint of his foot issues recurring?

The fact that we won with him having a shocker was pleasing.
Thought he’d be a big difference given he didn’t play them last time in tassie.

The standing ovation in the last 2 minutes was surreal.

For me, I have finally seen we can be a genuine threat this year. Headed off Hawthorn twice. Our coaching box won, against a good coaching box, and the guys on field implemented.

I do wonder if that applause was a massive realisation we are finally out of the 7 year abyss and have the goods to be a contender.

Well what a night that was.

Belief is a funny thing in sport. It takes years to build, and hours to lose. That win was all about belief.

3 minutes to go in the first quarter that belief was stretched in the stands, but as we have shown a few times this year our best football is better than anyone else's.

The captain once again put everyone on his shoulders, Filthy made very good defenders look ordinary, Worrell has to be AA, Milera was superb, ANB and Keays worked their backsides off and Izak did Izak things.

Dare to dream I say, this group has something about it.
I was told by someone back in '17 about Tex as captain. They said he wasn't the greatest leader off the field, but there was a belief in him across the group on field that when he was firing and stood up that the team could do anything.

I get the feeling there's that same belief in Dawson on field. It was his 2 goals that got the team fired up and once he started going you could see that it lifted the side to where they needed to be to win.

2 difficult but crucial dropped marks too

The only other thing I remember like that was the Round 1 Geelong game in 2021 or 22 where we played out of our skins the 1st quarter and everyone gave 'em a standing ovation at the siren because we didn't expect to win, but everyone was like "That was bloody incredible footy".

I was at the game, he started on the wing a few time. We moved him forwards around the 3rd quarter, sent him back to the wing briefly again and then subbed him.
