Preview R3: Changes vs. Geelong Cats

Tex playing about 2 games out of every 3 sounds about right to me. Might as well rest him against Geelong. Our record there is sh*t even when we're playing well, and we are not playing well. Some day we will snag a win over there, but it won't be this week, with or without Tex.

With a fit Tex and Dawson we were a big chance.

Now.... nah.

Do you blame me after what this club has dished up the last 28 years? hell, i wa sin high school last time this club won a flag. We cant win tomorrow night. i am a realist and until this club wins another flag i will continue to be a negative f***

High School, so at least you have some memory of it....I was 12/13 and still in primary school, I cannot remember 97 & barely remember 98!!

What if we were to, I don't know, maybe play Dowling in his actual preferred position and let him win the ball? See how he goes?
Not on a wing. Not at half forward. Not as a defensive mid. You know, actually try to let him use his main strength.

A radical suggestion I know. Crazy even.
Ridiculous isnt it. He should be in for Dawson, and play as the taller inside mid (I realise he's not THAT tall). Edwards and co are all way too similar to Berry and Peatling.

At least Dowling is a more mature body, has the tank and is a threat aerially and can take a good mark.

If he doesnt get a look in now, then when? Hes a better option than Taylor and Edwards imo.

Edwards is bigger and stronger than Dowling.......

Yeah I don’t think Dowling is a natural mid at the top level

See more potential in someone like Edwards, when it comes to playing in the guts

Have we ever actually tried him there?

He was originally recruited because he was winning 35+ touches a week as an accumulating midfielder.

How much of Dowling and Edwards have you actually watched play, Edwards is certainly not a Berry or Peatling clone and he's also a better kick than both.

We are going to get obliterated.

We always get obliterated there, regardless of how well we're going. We've lost thirteen matches in a row by an average of five goals since our last win 23 years ago.

Since 2009, the closest we've come is a 22 point loss.

Round 10 is May 16th. Round 15 is June 20th.
35 days :confusedv1:.

5 weeks is not a "resty resty". It's a Holiday. Seems extravagant to me.

There's fitness, and then there's Match Fitness. In 5 weeks I think Tex could lose some conditioning that you get from playing. After a 5-week break, he'd come back for the Round 15 Home game vs. Melbourne rusty and maybe more likely to do a hammy (there have been several Competition-wide so far) trying to adjust to the speed of the game under the new rules.

That looks like a rejuvenation/mini preseason. I don’t think it’s a terrible idea. I’d probably do it a bit later so he hits finals with about 3 games after the program.

We are 0/2 without Dawson. (Both games were against hawthorn)
Plus this is in Geelong
A win here will be more of a shock than filling your car up.

We lost by 5 points there in 2024.

A win against the Dogs would have made throwing this game easier to swallow, but I get it.

We pushed too hard last year with Gold Coast into Gather Round Geelong. Lost both. So don’t mind us playing the long game when we’d probably lose anyway.

People always complain we don’t test our depth now here’s our chance.

Still, you’d want to beat Fremantle. 1-3 would be hard to come back from.
