A serious amount of hate (potentially some trolling too) towards the Crows in the match day thread on the MB I haven’t seen for quite a while! Not even from North supporters either.

People must actually fear playing us again, nice.
Ok, I take this back about North supporters, there are now a few on the MB calling out Keane for taking a dive (yep, he did). However, amazingly ignore when Larkey flopped for a free kick in front of goal.

All clubs have players that do this as the AFL never do anything about it and sometimes you can milk a free or 50 out of it.

Any particular reason for the hate or anger, like was it specific players or the club as a whole?

See attached Wheelo Player ratings from the game...always interesting to compare these to raw disposal numbers, coaches votes, media, etc. I think they're a pretty good indicator as to the 'real value' of a player in a game. By this measure it was Thilthorpe BOG followed by Simpkin, Peatling, Hinge, Keays and Rankine which I find it hard to argue with.
Reflects poorly on ROB compared to Xerri

The bit where they miss the throw then sholl gets done with zero prior…
2 missed marks on 2nd attempt.

They were paid a mark well over the boundary.

But that goal poster was the biggest howler, but at least overruled.

I have zero issue with the free kicks that were paid on the day - every one was there. But the ones they missed/overlooked were genuinely appalling. Forgetting not to reset after their pathetic bounces that went astray were equally unforgivable. Like I said, amateur hour performance from the umps that's not up to the standard of the rest of the game.

Re Rachele:
I held off saying anything about this incident until the results from tests came in and now that he's going to miss four to six weeks with three broken ribs I've got to say this:
In general, I like footy aggression, controlled aggression, FAIR aggression and not the kinds of dog acts that some players use to take another player out unfairly.

Xerri is well-known for his aggression.

I've watched the incident several times slowed down to one quarter speed.

I can't read Xerri's mind. I don't know what he 'intended'. All I can do is look, think and draw my own conclusions.
Xerri was late to the contest.
He jumps across and forward, not UP, and his first contact is with his right knee into Rachele's ribs (btw, I am not blaming Xerri for Rachele's accidental movement across to his own rhs, moved by the pack).
A player does not get marking height from a knee into a feet-on-the-ground-opponent's ribs. All it can do is harm the recipient; case-in-point, Darcy Moore and Petracca's ribs, lung and spleen (and nothing was done about that, either).

In a marking contest a player who jumps early or late and makes an 'unrealistic' attempt at the mark is punished with a free kick. Others have been given 2 or more games over the last few years because of the "potential" for injury, even when injury has not happened (eg McAdam).
Xerri was never going to mark the ball (he was too late, too far back, too low; didn't get near the ball) and the useless umpires on Sunday who favored North Melbourne all day (htb, not-15, 50m penalty for momentum contact over the mark etc) did not even give the Crows a free kick :grimacing: :poov1:.

I think the incident should be reviewed by the MRP and they should consider the damage done to the player and the amount of games that he's going to miss because of Xerri's hit.
I know footy is a contact sport, but for years now they have been trying to punish (to eliminate) acts which cause injury, regardless of player intent.
I think it was a careless, danderous act.

Nah, he was looking at the ball. Shit happens, let’s not report everything that happens on the field.

Nothing more than a football accident don’t try a make something out of it

Likewise, I just thought it was a football incident in a marking contest. Rachele sadly drew the short straw this time.
I had another look, thanks y'all.
I was so busy looking so hard at Xerri's knee that I didn't look once at his head.
He had eyes for the ball.

I gonna delete that post; I got it wrong, I reckon. :embarrassedv1:
