My personal view is that we need to take some more risks if we want to save our season in the upcoming rounds. Time to play a six man forward line to man up the spare and time to play Fyfe forward for more than 30% of game time. Im sick of not taking risks in the coaching box. Cerra should play more midfield and Fyfe playing forward more would create more midfield time for him as well.

Maybe I'm just too cold/calculated here but the season is already lost. We're in the middle of a rebuild and it's going to be very hard for us to make the top 8.

Regardless I think we're overvaluing our midfield. We'd lose way more replacing Fyfe in the middle with a Cerra/Brayshaw than we'd gain replacing Cox/McCarthy with Fyfe in the forward line.

If we get to 5/5 (looking at the draw seems quite possible) and then over a few week period add Bennell, Walters, B.Hill, Logue, Tabs and get Darcy back to give Sandy some chop out, then I think the year is far from lost. The key is the next few weeks, where I hate the idea of not making some changes. I personally cant stand the idea of not giving Fyfe more forward time in the next few weeks. No point dominating clearances if you cant score like the Richmond game clearly illustrated.

Nah we can play finals this year - we’ve got two winnable home games against Saints and North and then I reckon we could beat Collingwood away or Adelaide Home and Carlton away - we could potentially get to 7-6 by the bye

Our ability to make finals was always going to rely on getting our best players on the parks most weeks. Unfortunately we have started losing some of them lately. It cost us big time against WC (mainly because it happened in game to our only quality forward).

If we keep everyone on the park in the second half of the year I think we can still scrape in. Will have to steal a few on the road and even up the derby ledger and I think both are doable. We've had a ridiculously difficult start to the year on the road and it is set to continue with Sydney and Collingwood (who are no longer battlers). It gets a little better after the bye.

His field kicking is not ideal for a CHF. The best in that position are excellent i50 kicks. Fyfe is not one of those.

Goal kicking is probably ok.
Oh I 100% agree with the rest of your post in this thread.
Fyfes field kicking is, well it's pretty good in the open, not so good under pressure. So yes would make a less than ideal deliverer.

wasn't the general consensus a year or two ago that the trajectory of the Saints would have them about top 4 by now? I haven't seen any of their games but what the hell happened. Do they need Scott Waters back coaching to make them a proud club again?
You'll find out on Saturday, don't worry. Our inability to hit a target with a basic 20m kick, convert a simple set shot, apply pressure at stoppages etc is mind boggling. It's like in the off season they practised everything except the basic skills required to play the game.

Their confidence is that low that it's almost impossible to turn around quickly, and we haven't shown any signs of improving in the last few weeks, so this game has bloodbath written all over it.

Woohoo!

 gosh. Sounds like freo's 2017

Brisbane beat us last year by 10 goals. Don’t get ahead of yourself.

There's a bit of negative saints freo history, but that's tough to hear from anyone who you you know loves their club. We've all been there, and for our clubs, way too much!!!

And also, makes me think freo's now going to lose. So. Much. Pessimism.

Bit of a pipe dream imo.

Maybe, but with the forward talent we have sitting on the sidelines and with his continued decent WAFL form he can't be too far away. I reckon this week MJ and Kersten are the talls most likely to get a gig tho, although it would require some lineup shuffling. And if Hilly misses it's Danyle or Sherro, again not exactly thrilling but whatever, I won't melt because there's bugger all available at Peel atm and the side is chock-full of kids as is.

Yep I agree. Want it to happen but there are other more likely options like the ones you mentioned.

Dunno, maybe you can look at it game-by game and make a case. Just don't think we're at all geared for a finals challenge with all the kids we've got running around especially when you compare us against Collingwood, Melbourne, Port who currently sit outside the 8 and will be in the hunt.

I was thinking about that game today.

I remember last year just before the bye. We were sitting just outside the eight and were going in favourites for our next two games (Pies, Lions). We had won a few games by then and we all had a little hope things were turning a corner.

Boom! We spudded it up against a Pies team with no bench in the last qtr then the following week we got spanked by the Lions.

Just want the boys to turn up and play with confidence.

For me a successful season will be finishing 9th or 10th, a pass for 11th or 12th but any lower then last year is simply a failure of a year

Jack Newnes to rack up 10+ tackles. :padlock:

Not surprised to see that our own MJ leads the league for least avg tackles per game this year. Not angry either, just sad. :(

You could also note that St Kilda has has led it’s opposition in the tackle count in 5 of 7 games played so far. What size player is Newnes? Most of those low on tackles are tall defenders. Most tackles are cheapies anyway, taking place in massive melees.

Same height as Brayshaw. Rest are all key defenders, and lol Menzel.

I think we’ll pick Danyle if SHill is not good to go.
I think we’ll lose. Got that old school bad feeling it’s going to be a crappy night.

Get the clearances first, fix the the forward line some other way. Sure he goes down there but he should be in the midfield. I'd rather keep Mundy in the forward line full time.
