Genuine question: what did you guys expect? Surprised by level of melts in here. The cupboard is bare. We are playing them all except Strnadica, Giro and North imo

You realise Hughes got dropped right?

It was not a forced change.

Yeah I don't rate him as highly as some on here so I'm not cut up about it. Poor skills and decision making. Ibbo-lite imo. Completely aside from that though, his performance 100% warranted it.

We don't really have much in the shed. If it wasn't Johnson or Pearce, it would be Sheridan. Might as well have stuck with Hughes, but he was woeful. It's just shuffling deck chairs. Another year where our injury woes are wrecking the side. Lucky for us the opposition isn't so great this week.

Sheridan can at least move

Johnson looks like he'd struggle in the EJ Whitten game

I think he is in to chop out in the ruck. Otherwise we've got Fyfe in the ruck again.

Cox?

Forced his way into the side at Peel then dropped after a single game for a player who will retire at the end of the year.

This is not what rebuilding is about.

When we cop a flogging and posters make excuses for it saying how "inexperienced" our team is, well, this is why our team is inexperienced.

They might be contemplating Pearce up forward hence the Johnson selection down back?????

All you fair weather fans who are blowing up about our selections need to have a good hard look at yourselves

D Pearce - has been burning in the WAFL and if you are looking for someone to come in and implement our bomb it on top of the forwards head game plan then look no further , I'm just going to come out and say it .......he is elite in this category ........ and has been for a long time

M Johnson - you only have to look around the comp to see the massive impact loose mobility challenged defenders are having in today's game ....look at the struggles our other key defenders are having !!!! Closing speed , strength and agility would have to be some of the most overrated attributes there are for a KPD

T Sherridan - Every important metric in footy points to the fact that you can not have enough fit , fast and petrified ghosts in your mid field it is a fallacy that possessions , tackles and pressure win games of football
The key stat in today's game is high numbers on the Telstra tracker ... that is where the game is won and lost these days

Ahhh I feel better after that

The way they select players, it doesn't look like they take into account our opponents.

Why add an extra tall to the backline when StKilda have a small forward line, we were too talk down back last week.

DP & Johnson is not a rebuild picks.

Unless Alex Pearce is playing forward and Daniel Pearce is left right out (late change).

I'm glad it wasn't Sheridan. Is soft, doesn't deserve a call up. Would much rather Danyle in ahead of him.

Kersten and Apeness will stay in Peel unless they can give Taberner-like form from last season. Only fair.

The cupboard is bare and right now it's all we have. Hughes is well off the pace, clearly needs more game time at Peel.

From my understanding he's been pretty bad for Peel this year. His inclusion surprised me. We've still got a huge number of young players in the side. The omission of one of them doesn't mean the rest aren't there, we are still 'playing the youth'. Just need to show even the slightest glimpse of form to retain your spot. Hughes didn't. Oh well.

Wasn't Rosco taking thinly veiled swipes at the recruiting team over the need for more speed in the team ? Next minute bring in johno probably the slowest player in the AFL , unless there is a media release that this is johno's farewell game I don't get such mixed messaging

I know Hughes had a shocker but being pitched straight in to that wind - worl last week and then straight out again is harsh as ! And I believe he's one of the quickest blokes at the club

Strange days ...... have we entered the ' crazy rossy ' era

To be fair, my knowledge of Nyhuis this year is relegated to WAFL stats. Would love to hear from the Peel-patrol to get a grasp on how he’s been?

Seems that he could have at least replaced Wilson structurally, and also switched up forward (kicking 2 goals in his previous game).

I did watch the Dockers game again and Hughes was deplorable, so my previous comments on him may have been reactionary. He looked really promising early in his career so I hope he’s able to turn a corner soon.

The thing that’s getting lost though is we’re fielding the same negligible forward line. I hope at least Cox will spend the entire game forward, even so we’re seriously short of some firepower. I think Kersten/Apeness/Strnadica needed to play this week over Johnson.

Hughes was beyond terrible. 100% deserves his axing.

Was my absolute lock to be dropped. Some of you need to watch the game. It was career ending type bad.
He was terrible. Not sure it is career ending. He ran around the whole preseason with a cast on his wrist.

But he has gone backwards significantly this year. To be honest when he was racking up decent stats in the second half of 2017 we were regularly being pumped.

He certainly needs to pull his finger out or that statement of yours might become true. But I think there are a few in the list changes queue that sit in front of him at present.

For me, that D.Pearce got picked ahead of Sheridan isn't surprising given WAFL form, but it is also a crushing blow for Sheridan's long term hopes as an AFL footballer. If he can't get a game ahead of a 30-something veteran who is a fringe player only months away from retirement, what future does he have?

I would have played Hughes again because being able to bounce back is surely an important lesson to learn. But I agree with others -- he was shockingly bad last week.

To be fair it was a single game that was pretty horrendous. You gotta draw the line somewhere in terms of performance regardless of age.
