You made several really good points.

The difference between Cripps and Keays (both teams' best mid) was stark yesterday.
Cripps is on the move, smoothly; his skills are well-honed. When his teammates see him about to get possession they move fast to be in a good spot to receive (in close and forward of him), while our blokes watch. Your post made me realise that comes only from experience and teammate familiarity.
Keays has a real knack for getting the tricky ball. I often think he's not a chance then out he comes with the ball ; it's good. Problems:
--- his teammates often get in his way, either from ball-watching or going for the same ball, and
--- those other Crows rarely move into position or run past to receive from Keays, made worse by the fact that
--- he often bombs away, even when clear (maybe his mates need to let him know?), as do Laird and Crouch.

Yeah, if you are going to be a standard 180CM mid then you have to be good at extracting and using the ball ie. quick hands, finding guys in traffic/on the run. This is a huge reason why we struggle, Murphy is the only player I have seen this year actually do this effectively, which is bad because he isnt a mid lol

I don't think he's THAT chaotic / unpredictable, but I will allow that comment. :)

- I also think it's something that goes beyond Keays - in general, players needing to have faith in their teammates and stay off the contest, giving options for the exit, instead of piling in to "help". Our better footy has been played when we get that right - as our opponents do.
Spot on, we have a lot of players that get sucked into the contest, which is why the opposition often has such easy clearances once they get it out.

He showed some undisciplined acts
Keays flew the flag better than our captain has done for years. Under the weight of being flogged by the disgraceful umpiring decisions and an opponent who applied maximum pressure on his team, Benny showed LEADERSHIP!
I didn't see it as lack of discipline but more a legacy of carrying a heavy burden.

Should be captain next week!

Ok maybe he has learnt to approach the umpires in a better way, but his kicking the footy away after going out of bounds?

We seem to be getting more than our fair share of terrible umpiring...
It's been bad (terrible) for the last 2 weeks, but previous to that we had the rub of the green in many of our earlier games.

Wouldn't mind seeing a Gif of O'brien getting steamrolled by Jack Silvagni in the ruck contests to the dulcet tones of wackety sax

When have we had 4 direct goals from incorrect umpire decision in half rub of the green games which would have made the half very close this year????

I said we had the rub of the green... I never said that the umpiring was as ridiculously biased towards us in those earlier games, as it was towards Carlton on Sunday. There's a reason why the umpiring for the Carlton game was rated as "terrible".

FWIW, bad as the umpiring was, it had very little impact on the final result. Carlton were simply better than Adelaide, and thoroughly deserved to win by ~10 goals. The umpiring didn't help, but it wasn't the difference between the two teams - not even close.

The umpiring had two effects. It put us behind on the scoreboard but it also completely destroyed our mojo. We weren’t experienced enough to keep our heads up after those decisions.
Agreed. The umpiring may not have affected the final result, but it certainly ruined the half-time position and morale, especially mine.

It would appear Carlton have been given umpiring fairytale status this year, even though they are still a way off the better teams.
