A number of Big Footy members may be familiar with the Football Statistics section within the Australian Football area of Big Footy at the top of the forums page. Within Football Statistics there is a thread titled Stats observations, which initially started out with the title "Post 5 random (obscure) stats". I thought I would try launching a similar thread in the cricket section. People no longer post 5 stats in the Football related thread each time they post and I am not going to stipulate that people should post 5 cricket stats each time, but here are 5 obscure cricket stats to get started.

1) For all first class matches he played throughout the 1930s, Don Bradman had a batting average of 100.07. This is made up of 218 innings, 27 not out, 19114 runs and 77 centuries.
2) George Giffen and Mike Procter are the only players who have achieved over 5000 runs and 500 first class wickets in two separate countries. Giffen has 5769 runs and 511 wickets in Australia and 5621 runs and 502 wickets in England. Procter has 7203 runs and 569 wickets in South Africa and 14733 runs and 848 wickets in England.
3) Dennis Lillee has a lifetime batting average of 141 at Lord's. He played 5 first class innings there with 4 not outs and made 120 runs, an aggregate boosted by his Test innings of 73 not out in 1975 and 40 not out in 1981. Lillee also played two undefeated innings of 16 not out and 5 not out at Lord's in one day games.
4) The highest score in the world at any level by a woman is 427 not out by Lizelle Lee, a South African playing for Kei Under 19s vs Mpumalanga Under 19s in 2010-11. Lee played one Test for South Africa in 2014.
5) All told there have been 140,348 pages of Wisden Cricketer's Almanack (Up to and including the most recent edition, Wisden 2018).

For those who may not know, Giffen also kicked Norwood's first ever goal in SA League Football :)

George Giffen could play a bit. He loved playing against the Vics. In one 10-year stretch against Victoria, he averaged 138 with the bat and 11 wickets per match.

In consecutive matches against them his figures read:

235, 5/89 & 7/103

271, 9/96 & 7/70

Pretty good, huh?

It was mentioned in another thread but I thought a great stat was that no side outside Australia and England had ever won a series in SA before last week. Even allowing for their purgatory, that’s still a ridiculous record

Effectively it's only since 1992/93, Asians side never toured prior to that for obvious reasons.

In a club match in England between Indian Wanderers and Highway Third XI in 1999, Chris Hayman caught his brother Courtney off the bowling of their father Carlton. The scorebook entry read:

C. Hayman c C. Hayman b C. Hayman........3

In his opening four innings on tours of England, Don Bradman scored 236 in 1930, 206 in 1934, 258 in 1938 and 107 in 1948, all against Worcestershire. This gives him 807 runs at an average of 201.75. However, Keith Miller in his first innings of tours of England has a better average. Including the 1945 tour with an Australian Services team, Miller scored 105 versus England, then 50 not out versus Worcestershire in 1948, 220 not out versus Worcestershire in 1953 and 281 not out versus Leicestershire in 1956, giving him 656 runs at an average of 656.

Greg Chappell once made five Test match golden ducks over four consecutive summers.

1979-80: 1st innings, third Test vs West Indies at Adelaide
1980-81: 2nd innings, third Test vs India at Melbourne
1981-82: 1st innings, first Test vs West Indies at Melbourne
1981-82: 2nd innings, second Test vs West Indies at Sydney
1982-83: 1st innings, fourth Test vs England at Melbourne

In 1891-92 in a minor match in New South Wales, Sotala and Wattle Flat played in a double tie, with both teams scoring 49 in their first innings and then both being bowled out for 37 in their second innings.

I drive through both villages once a week. It’s unsurprising the bowling was so strong - everyone out there has 6 fingers on each hand

Not sure if this is a joke about the camp disco band, or a crack at my yokel assumptions.
(If it’s the latter, I live 20 minutes from Wattle Flat and got married nearby, there are some strange genetics there beyond all doubt)
More family stumps than trees? To crib from Bill Hicks.

In Allan Border's second Test in Australia, Australia lost by 93 runs to England, being bowled out for 111 in their second innings.
In Allan Border's second last Test in Australia, Australia lost by 5 runs to South Africa, being bowled out for 111 in their second innings.
In between, there was the infamous Headingley Test of 1981 were Australia lost to England by 18 runs after being bowled out for 111 in their second innings. In all three cases Australia had decent first innings leads: 142, 123 and 227.

Cameron Ling has been in the news lately due to his massive batting average in the Geelong Cricket Association. For 2018-19 Ling's average for St. Josephs 2nd XI finished at 203.33 for 610 runs from 7 innings with 4 not outs. However in 2014-15 he averaged 563. He played with the 4th XI that season and scored 558 runs without being dismissed. His other innings was 5 in a T20 game which gave him his huge average.
This link shows Ling is currently averaging 129.29 after nine seasons due to 45 not outs from his 69 innings.
