Butcher, Dawes, Trengove, Lake, Clarke, Sylvia and Reid...

These are the names that we should be looking at come trade time!

With your first pick to be around #20 you would need to give up that plus a quality player to get any of those mentioned.

Facepalm x every post involving Butcher.

Firstly he will cost a lot for a young and developing KPP who is only two years in.

Secondly Hampson is worth roughly the same, if not more for me. Further along in development and look like a pretty sure thing to at least be good.

Thirdly BRYCE GIBBS for BUTCHER is Highway robbery. No matter what pick you throw in

Gord, I don't know! Maybe not Gibbs but people come up with these big ideas and can't comprehend the fact that you can't get something without giving up something in return.

People are happy to endlessly plunder our draft picks for the mediocre or give up the Earth (not just one of our players, but oodles of sweetners) for already established players but will never go near someone who just might become one of the elite players in the competition. Henderson just needs time but not John Butcher, no, he's just a flash in the pan that played well against a poor defence.

Re: Lake

Probably wouldn't trade too much.
A 30 year old who hasn't played for a year and costs 700kpa isn't the most tempting prospect (gun though he may be).

Re: Lake

Gibbs. Footscray is closer to Adelaide than Carlton.

Ha. Good call. Doesnt seem like a lot of love for the big man. Would seem sensible for the Dogs to hang onto him if the market for him's low. Thanks for the feedback.

All the best for the finals.

Re: Lake

I wouldn't be against it. At his best he is bloody awesome, but I guess this season has put a huge dent in his currency. Plus his age would be a concern.

Plus he plays the same position as Jamison, no? Can't see him being favoured above Jamo. Maybe at full-forward...

Re: Lake

If Lake was to walk out the door and declare only Carlton can pick him up or he won't play next year, we would certainly consider him for free.

In other cases, I'd expect us to enquire about him but we certainly wouldn't be moving heaven and earth to secure his services.

Re: John Butcher

Hampson and a 2nd round pick would be worth the deal. The thing is this draft is pretty weak ,so really that first pick will possibly be more a dud, so it really losing a 3rd Ruckman, who had potential for like 6 years, but has played in patches. We could always find a 3rd Ruckmen for a rookie in case of injuries to Kreuzer and Warnock. Kreuzer will be a wasted talent up forward, when he should be used in the middle.

Overpaying is if that player traded is really good or that player been recruited is passed 24, Butcher could give us 10 years. He just turned 20, there be no key forward left in the draft after the first 5 picks. I really think it's worth giving up our first pick with something to get him. The club gave away a first pick for Brock Mclean a player not really needed, who had many injury concerns. Port Adelaide need a Ruckmen for a decade. How good would it be if we had Butcher and Mitchell, for 10 years up forward, like Lloyd and Lucas did for Essendon and both come good.

That first round pick everyone is talking about trading for some other clubs recycled player is the one that we might have to use to recruit Buckley with.

Also, when we recruited McLean, we needed a hard in and under type and he fit the bill. The club would have done a complete work up on him and for the first couple of rounds it was like he was back to his old self and it looked a deal. Then he copped his injury and then run into a few other injuries and they seemed to have really cost what pace he did have. He now looks like he is completely lost at sea with players we all acknowledge as slow running off him.

We also didnt know how well Ellard had come on in the last 2 years and Curnow wouldnt have even been on the horizon 2 years ago. now I suspect that McLean is just going to be a depth player for the remainder of his career with us and then he will be delisted next year at the end of his contract.

As for Butcher... I wouldnt trade Hampson for him regardless of what people think of Butcher and what Port offered for Hammer. He was starting to show how good he was when he went down with his injury and he was definitely looking a lot better than people think.

Re: John Butcher

Scott Thompson anyone?

Kangaroos FB - good size, would be a good option to send Hendo forward again.

Thompson/Jammo KPD combination.

Has come back to the pack a bit from last year it would seem. Bit undersized and will be 26 next year.

That said he is a prick, and we could do with a bit more prick in the team...

Ran into injuries? Bit like he had for the three years prior to that?

Josh Kennedy went to Sydney in the same trade period for next to nothing, and one would think less money than what we are reportedly paying Brock. Was a trade made in haste, and sooner we can acnknowledge it for the monumental balls-up it was the better. I just hope crazy Kev is keen...

Re: John Butcher

I will be staggered if Dylan Buckly costs us our first pick...

He has done SFA this season...mainly due to injuries..but still.

If another club bid a first rounder, just to make us use ours...the club should pull out and let them have him.

Isnt worth more than a 3rd rounder at this stage.

Re: John Butcher

Really wish I knew more about Gold Coast, would be nice to know a bit more about their lesser lights.

How's Josh Caddy going for them?

Are we allowed to pull out having made a commitment .... anyone know?

Re: John Butcher

Highly doubt we'll have to use more than a 2nd rounder on him.

Sheedy is the only flog who'd throw one of his picks around just to spite us....but I still highly doubt it.

Dylan is too small and unproven for anyone to flirt with a first rounder.

We have already made a commitment to Dylan and his family. It would be wrong to go back on that agreement.

With that said, he has been injured and in a similar fashion to Callum Bartlett (Brisbane), he should slide. Callum was highly rated, top 10 I believe, but suffered injuries that cruelled his season(s) and he inevitably fell to pick 27 in the 2009 draft.

Since then he hasn't made an impact due to similar knee injuries.

I feel that we will not have to use our first round pick on Dylan.
