Re. Gunston:

Adelaide hasn't given up hope of retaining the 193cm forward, but it's more likely the club will have to agree to a trade, with Hawthorn, North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs all showing interest in the second-year Crow.

Carlton is also believed to be keen on the promising 14-game player.

A standard line inserted to any pre draft related player movement story since the first decade of the 21 century. Likely to remain so whilst journos take their leads from BF rantings.........

We don't have to do more than to ask what the position of a player is, before it fronts up as us showing keen interest.
Nevertheless, it is our job to ask.

Our name will be linked with at least 10 players from here on in to trade week, yet I don't see us with more than possibly 2 players.
Just the way it goes, it seems.

Gunston: I'm obviously biased here but does anyone else think that the way he walked out on them has Essendon's name all over it. .. Obviously we're not privy to the inner workings but it seemed poor to walk away from the club award night like that. ..

Nail. Head.

Reeks of the Scum.

Don't forget Simon Goodwin is now their assistant coach.

**** he looks good in that picture. A bloody good size and now it seems like he has sorted out his kicking action and can also help out in the ruck.

The guy who I picked as the direct replacement for Carlos is really starting to come to the fore and I suspect that he will get another year on the rookie list (thanks GC17 and GWS) and he will play 6-10 games next year as our lead up FF with Waite and/or Carlos.

In 2013, Mitchell will be ready to move into the Carlton team and should be slotted into FF and move Casboult out to CHF.

Works for me :)

Casboult would need to improve a huge amount to be considered part of our future plans, he has had one decent game recently he will need to start doing this on a regular basis as the gap from the Bullants to AFL level is huge.
Whilst he may sneak a game or two in the next year or so, l cannot see him becoming a permanent fixture in our future plans, at least not until he shows a significant amount more not just on the odd occasion.

RE: Gunston

From that AFL article it sounds like he has some sort of personal issues which he wants to deal with in Melbourne. His management did not drive this, so the logical implication is that his desire to return to Victoria is not financially motivated, as it would be if the Bombers had been in his ear. The explanation for missing the award night only strengthens this for me. He doesn't want to confront his mates about it, which says he is embarassed and/or emotionally upset about whatever has caused him to leave Adelaide.

Provided he doesn't carry a lot of unresolvable emotional baggage over I will certainly have him though.

I think I need to be alone for a little while.

Bolt's pack marking has been incredible the last few weeks. He still sprays a couple and misses a few chances, but he has come a long way. Get this one into ya.

I'm no good with time stamps, so just skip to 2:14 and enjoy. :thumbsu:

Mitchell/Casboult would be a brilliant team. I look forward to Mitchell getting some time with the Ants next year.

O'Meara heads GWS mini-draft pool
Nick Vlastuin
Club: Northern Knights/Eltham FC
Age: 17
Height: 186cm
Weight: 83kg
Sheehan says: "Strongly-built midfielder who attacks the ball strongly and excels at clearances. He missed the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships due to injury but excelled at NAB AFL U16s level in 2010, winning Vic Metro's MVP award. Part of the AIS-AFL Academy in 2010/11."

Who should we give up to get this type of player? :o

Let the other 16 clubs fap over Jags then quietly slip in to nab one of Crouch or Vlastuin relatively cheaply ;)

Just as aside, IIRC the 17yo's taken in this mini draft can't play AFL until 2013.

Cachia wouldn't get you a bottom age jet like D.Swallow, Gibbs, Deledio, etc.

Hampson and Lucas would probably be the offer that they would accept.

Yet both are out of contract and required players.
With a draft pick, I'd say it's not a bad offer. But you're right, they're interested in securing a certain type of player.

This is correct. However, my query is what happens to them? As they've been drafted to an AFL team do they get to play another season in the TAC Cup (similar but different than a father/son pick) or do they have to go to the VFL sides? If so, what is the talent differential between VFL reserves and TAC Cup?

A good question polish sounding dude.....the answer is I am not sure. My guess is they are able to train with the main group and play with the associated state league affiliate. O'Meara has already played senior footy in the WAFL, as has Ben Kennedy in the SANFL. Crouch and Vlastuin are already fairly solid units, so I wouldn't see any issues there.

shoe on the other foot, gunston is apparently worth a first rounder (and steak knives). although with more clubs looking to get hold, they might get something decent via the bidding war. would carlton cough up that much for him?

i dont think clubs will offer a first round pick earlier than ours. pick 22 sounds about right for him

I don't know much about the guy, but from all reports that seems somewhere in the vicinity.

Which again has me thinking... why can all these other teams draft KPPs with picks in the 20s and 30s, and we cannot. When are the guys we've picked gonna come through?

Examples:

2010 - Eagles - Darling at 26
2009 - Crows - Gunston at 29
2009 - Swans - Reid at 38
2009 - Cats - Vardy at 42
2008 - Power - Trengove at 22
2008 - Dogs - Jones at 32
2008 - Hawks - Lisle at 50
2008 - Roos - Grima at 14 in the ROOKIE draft
2007 - Bombers - Pears at 23
2007 - Bombers - Hooker at 54

This is not meant to be the usual 20-20 hindsight whine about why didn't we draft these guys... just that we are now in a position where we're willing to hand over picks and players to get a hold of these guys... where are the ones we drafted? Surely they can't be too far away. HAVE we backed the wrong ponies, or are we likely to see the Mitchells, McCarthys, Hampsons etc make their mark soon?

Even going back a tad further... Mark Austin was drafted a few picks within Dawes, Tippett, MacKenzie and Goldstein. Where are OUR KPP guys?
