Anyone know what they are doing to the oval at the Gaza sports ground on North East Road?

The oval and surroundings is all ripped up, looks like a construction site.

Are they building something?

also, has anyone here got a galaxy tab or a motorola xoom?

care to share any pros/cons of it?

I've got a Galaxy tablet - I connect it to the smart board at school and run apps through it and works a treat.

I don't but unless I'm thinking of the i pad, you can add the Microsoft office suit to it and run power point, word, excel and publisher through it and have it come up on the projector/smart board for presentations.

They are awesome as I don't have to carry the lap top around any more. Add an external key board and they are very descent.

Does anyone know why Commercial Rd between Bagsters Rd and Salisbury Highway/John Rice Ave is being widened? Besides the change of shift at Holden, the road is relatively quiet, so the work being done to it seems to be quite an overkill. Also notice Nurlutta train station is being widened in the upgrade, which is quite bizarre as it's literally in the middle of nowhere, has zero bus connections and most of the time trains aren't scheduled to stop there! Ah well, at least there a nice brand spanking new set of railway crossing boom gates, lights and alarms going in as well, ready to go when the line re-opens.

I think they are trying to develop the free land adjacent to the phoenix society and the Holden car park with retail shops. By enlarging the roundabout there, building a retail shopping centre and car parking on both sides of the road will take up the free space.

It's taking a long time but, they are almost onto 12 months now.

South road is also taking a bloody long time as well.

Hmmm, seems bizarre they'd build a retail precinct around there - especially when you have Elizabeth just up the road. Also, that area simply doesn't get the traffic to support any retail around there - and certainly not enough to warrant the major upgrade to the road. Besides going to Centrals matches and the odd trip to Elizabeth, I never go around that area - and I live around the corner! I remember when Oporto opened up along there - somehow they lasted about 18 months, and since they've gone it seems a new business goes into their old store monthly...

Then to totally screw it up they've also completely closed off West Ave from Commerical Rd - I think the government's turned paranoid about who drives past the RAAF base again

Opps - I mean commercial retail. The same sort of commercial retail in the area. Not retail as in sports power, jeans west or the body shop but more like repco, autobahn and stuff like that.

Sorry for the confusion.

Oporto lasted maybe 2 months, then a burger take away joint was in for like a month but ever since a bakery has been there. That's lasted about 12 months.

My sister lives around the corner from that roundabout and I think you maybe right.

I'm sure Oporto lasted around 18 months - 2 years. It's just a terrible place for a fast food outlet. You don't go out that way to eat.

Yeah, you're possibly right but I cannot recall it lasting that long but that's not an issue. That doesn't matter.

However, you are dead right by saying it's a terrible place for a fast food outlet and the flow of traffic isn't suited to growth.

The sip and save (i think) drive thou bottle shop and bakery seem to be working but. Oh well, doesn't matter.

You could have a bottlo on every corner up there and they'd still do well! :D

The whole PR side of politics in this country is a joke. Parties no longer have any "policies". They just wait til they can guage the general public concensus on whatever the current "issue" is then say they are for it, but their hands are tied. The opposition then just waits for the government to come up with a plan, then they just argue why that won't work without offering a solution. Image is everything. What you stand for means nothing. What a crock!
