Yep absolutely brilliant some great stories there. The Duey Bozella one and Jim Valvano's Wolfpack winning the NCAA tournament against all odds were both absolute corkers!!

I recently watched a doco on a WA-QLD flight that Freddie Flintoff produced about depression in elite sportspeople which is very interesting. He talks about his own battle and the fact Steve Harrmison had depression throughout 10 years of his playing career. He also talks to WC Boxer the Hitman Harding, Soccer great Vinnie Jones and other players/coaches.

It really gives a good insight into the elite sporting world where 1 in 10 people have depression while they are competing. Mental health of athletes is treated like a long term physical injury nowadays, they give the player full rehabilitation. Well worth watching.

Just makes me think how many players and coaches in the AFL are battling it right now?

Perhaps sportsman, but the most dominant sportsperson in history (possibly) was a woman. Heather McKay dropped something like two matches in her debut squash tournament then never lost another match in her 20 or so year career. Won every world championship, every tournament she entered, without dropping a match, and goes without saying she lost very few sets either.

Probably could have played hockey for Australia too.

Won every world championship, every tournament she entered, without dropping a match, and goes without saying she lost very few sets either.

McKay won her first British Open (considered to be the effective world championship of the sport at the time) in 1962. She then won it again every year for the next 15 consecutive years, losing only two games at the championship during that time. She usually won her finals matches comfortably.

In the 1968 championship, she won the final against her compatriot Bev Johnson without dropping a point.

Esther Vergeer the Dutch wheelchair tennis player was dominant as well. Number one in the world for 14 straight years until her retirement - used to win finals 6-0 6-0. It'd eventually get boring wouldn't it? (Guess that is why she retired at 31).
