My post was about you saying it’s relatively new. It isn’t. KB played a long time ago bud. Not sure he even would’ve won 3 anyway.
Yes which is completely useless as the conversation was about someone who played most of their career before that year. It's not really a difficult thing to comprehend.

KB would've won 5 in my opinion, he didn't know how to play poorly in finals.

But since the awards inception there has been players with the opportunity to win 3 but only 1 has.

Definitely the most versatile.

Having two injury riddled seasos in his prime affected his production though.
Strong rumour is they were not injury riddled - more a deal with the AFL. Came after he suddenly baulked up while being trained by Shane Carter - then missed exactly 44 games (the equivalent of a two year ban) over the next three seasons, with a mysterious foot injury that suddenly came good after he served his ban.

I think Voss is being shown too much respect. I think the physicality and bravery he played with was incredible. But I don't remember him being as dominant as others (yes, I know he won a Brownlow). I still think he was a legend, but I think his legacy has ballooned with every passing year. I'm also guessing some posters are giving him extra points for leadership - which is fair enough. He probably should have Buckley's Norm Smith too. I don't place as much emphasis on the three flags - as I see that as team success.

I think Buckley and Hird being undersold.

Not sure people appreciate how good Buckley was. He could absolutely dominate games, did it super consistently, was one of the best kicks in the comp and could roost it 60m. Plus he scored a boatload of goals for a FT midfielder. I f'ing hated him - he was just that good. I don't mark him down for no premierships. I think there was 3 years in the late 90s he was the best player in the comp not called Carey.

Hird I don't think necessarily dominated games as regularly as some of the others, although he could do anything and everything. The most complete of all the players. Could play mid, HBF, forward, even pinch hit as an undersized KPP. Maybe the most pure talent of the lot? Certainly the most versatile.

Having said all that, ranking is soooo bloody hard.

Not sure I can do it, but I'd have to go

GAJ
Judd
Buckley

Minor gap

Pretty much can't split the next three, but would probably go

Hird
Martin
Voss

All IMHO.

You know the saying - opinions are like arseholes..........

Each to their own.

Voss should have a Norm Smith - even those that voted on it admitted they got it wrong. They stuffed up because they awarded it half way through the last quarter when it looked like Collingwood were going to win. Buckley was the second best player on the ground behind Voss at that time, but best for Collingwood, so it was given to the best player on the supposed winning side.
Voss then takes over and steamrolls Collingwood but the votes are already in. Buckley won it because Channel 7 wanted the votes in early for the presentation.
Buckley should be embarrassed to have it, he really should have given it back.

Buckley is probably the best field kick I've ever seen - but he was one of the biggest downhill skiers to play the game. Had no defensive side and no onfeild leadership.
Voss was at his best when the game was on the line - he just bullied his way to a win. If I was putting together a side to play for my life he would be the first one picked.

Interesting take. from my memory of that game wasn't much at all between Bucks and Voss. Just checked stats and Bucks had 32 disposals, 28 kicks, Voss 26 disposals, 22 kicks. both kicked a goal, both instrumental in their teams performances.

if Bucks was the best field kick you've ever seen you would think he would have done something with his 28 kicks?

I think Voss was the best player in the Comp in the years Brissy won the flag. And he was skillful too, good on both sides, just not only tough.

I do think when all the players are in the same tier/level, things like leadership quality, premierships won, big game performances have to be used as a tiebreaker of sort. That's why Voss gets rated higher by most people. TBH if Birsbane won only one premeirship , he may well as have ended last on most rankings.
However, It should not be used to elevate a player in to the next level though. For Example- A player like Hodge with great leadership and big game performance- it should not be used to elevate him to the next leval, but could be a factor which affects his ranking among similar level players, like Selwood, Bartel, etc.

I think Bucks was smashing it and was BOG until the last quarter when Voss stepped up.

Was the Scotty Burns bump in the last quarter?

I find that hard to believe. Others have won in a losing side.
