Looks like Logan will be holidaying with Johnny Butcher and family.

Haha I like Nicks giving him the Austin, Texas nickname - sister city after all.

I found myself agreeing with a lot of Framptons answers.. until the Crows answer. But even then Mcleod as a favourite isnt too bad.

Funny how Austin said Hombsch as his role model. I was so far from being a role model at 21 :p

it's ridiculously hard to judge characters based on three minutes of footage, but austin seems like he's embraced the club well, & he won't be afraid to front up to the media. seems a bit of a character as well, jackoesque. this could just be me hoping more than anything as i'm most excited by what he can bring. i can see this kid being a general down back in 6 years time.

Damn good point. Credit to Hombschy for becoming one of the most disciplined and respected at the club. It was no coincidence that they rated him as one of our most effective defenders.

Bump
My review after the pre-season games + a month into the season...

#56: Dougal Howard, 199cm KPF
Was playing back and forward in the SANFL trials games and did alright but then got injured as the season started. :(

#69: Logan Austin, 195cm KPD
Has shown the most out of the 4, I think he has real AFL potential and he looks like he has a good understanding of the team structure and where to position himself. Playing a key role down back with O'Shea has freed up Tom Clurey to be experimented as a midfielder. Looks to be the best pick so far.

#78: Jesse Palmer, 188cm med. fwd
Reminds me a bit of Robbie Gray playing at fwd flank. The main thing he needs to work on though is sustaining a 4 quarter effort, Last week against Norwood he was very good early but then disappeared.

#84: Billy Frampton, 200cm ruck
Hasn't fired a shot so far with a shin injury. At pick 84 a ruckman is worth the gamble even with the history of a shin problem. Looking forward to seeing him tag team with Redden in the ruck. (But at the same time, We don't want to rush him back too quickly due to the emergence of Krakouer ;))

With how late these picks were, If even one of these guys can make it to be an AFL footballer I'd be very ecstatic.

Logan Austin definitely the stand out recruit. Will find it hard to break into this Port side down back - next year up forward?

With Butcher, Shaw, Harvey, Howard and Redden all trying to get a spot in the fwd line. I think it would be better for him to compete with Clurey, O'Shea and Stewart for a spot in the backline.

I agree with the above. Logan the clear standout. Hopefully Dougal can be a similar acquisition.

For mine, I know it is early, but there are some things Palmer does on the field that I really don't like and make me think he is a long, long way off. However he clearly has goal sense and a good leg so I won't write him off, but I will say I will be surprised if he makes it.

Austin won't be expected to debut for 2+ yrs and will be allowed to develop at SANFL as a back. Depending on what happens with O'Shea and Clurey at the end of the year, he may get a game here or there with injuries.

Frampton and Howard are 3+ yrs players until they will be ready. Austin, as backs often do, may come on much sooner.

Palmer is an interesting one, we have his position well covered and he will take a 2-3 yrs to get his body right and learn the craft. I am not sure he will get it considering future draftees.
