Great to see Jacobs do well at VFL level. He has worked hard and is obviously reaping the benefits of his first full preseason. Can't do much more than dominate inside and outside.

Dumont looks to have had a decent game too. Wonder how McKenzie looked?

Used to think Levi had pox disposal.

Unfortunately for Jacobs he is too similar to some of the players in the 1s to get a sustained run. Dumont might be in the same boat.

Bad drafting to be taking so many players with the same skill set= contested player-average speed

Not having a go at Dumont but Kennedy-Harris was the player we needed

I'm guessing we didn't take him because we grabbed Nahas.

I'm no fan of Jacobs - never have been.

But something is seriously wrong when guys like McMahon and Wright get games for much less.

The thing that was wrong that brought them in was injuries to defenders. Jacobs - unless he is played out of his best position - has to displace a midfielder, and an inside one at that, which has been harder, especially with Levi cementing his spot.

How do you know HBF is out of position?

He played there almost exclusively for Port. And he hasn't exactly lit up the midfield at AFL level for us.

All I'm saying is that it seems almost unfair when we bring in a player like Wright instead who still hasn't worked out his position after 6 years of AFL footy.

My (very good) mail is we recruited him as an inside mid. The whole half back stuff started when he got 50 uncontested touches in a TAC Cup match playing loose, and it was pretty clear at Port he was not confident in what they were asking him to do.

His best game for us was clearly the Geelong win last year, in which he started in the centre square.

How many inside mids do we need?

Swallow, Cunnington, Greenwood, Ziebell, Jacobs?

Judging on the GC and GFC games we havnt got enough. Clearance after clearance in the 1st Q with darts into the forward line, it was like we were
playing 3 v 7.

But im sure Goldy was winning the taps:rolleyes:

No we took Dumont because he was an absolute steal.
Agreed. We needed to take Dumont as he was an absolute bargain for that pick. The club is probably kicking itself that we let Grundy slip through our fingers the year before just because we thought we had enough quality ruckman. Even if he ends up as a bust, I can live with the fact that the club drafted who they thought was the best availible player with the first active pick (non F/S).

Im not fussed about stats or whether the guys an inside mid or not.......Id be happy with someone who will/can defend and man up when we don't have the pill.

Imagine the meltdown on here had we taken the relatively unknown George Hewett, also an inside mid, as planned.

So 3 established inside mids at the end of last year? It was a hole we needed to fill.

I don't understand the obsession with outside players. You can only have about 2 in your team.

Well I would not have a problem with Ziebell and Cunnington alternating between mid and forward line.

Yeah we would love a Steven Motlop or B. Hill.

Don't mind Jacobs but I just think he is not in the protected class and will be dropped after a couple of 1s games, so not his fault but the team will not improve either way.
