maybe this is why CC said its better for Danger and Sloane to wait to sign their deals. Wonder who the player who made the personal enquiry was, of the out of contract players Danger would be one of the highest profile to make it relevant for.

Also relevant to the discussion had by some before on what accountants can do for a player.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-02-11/players-tax-win

AFL PLAYERS have won a significant tax break in future contracts after the Australian Tax Office ruled that a player is able to licence his image rights to a third party.

The ruling will allow players to have a percentage of their contract income paid to a private company or trust for the use of their image rights, taxed at a companies and trusts level that is lower than the highest personal tax rate of 49 per cent.

AFL.com.au understands that the percentage allocated, which is capped at 30 per cent, will continue to be counted as football payments for the purposes of AFL rules and total player payments.

The AFLPA told agents on Tuesday of the development, which has been given impetus by a player seeking a private ruling from the Australian Tax Office while negotiating a new contract.

The AFLPA has been working on getting an outcome on player image rights for players for several years.

For a player to be eligible he must demonstrate the valuation of his image is commercially justifiable, and the arrangement will need to be documented in two contracts – the standard playing contract and the player image rights contract.

To determine the amount a player can apportion to image rights, a formula involving elements such as best and fairest placings, All Australian selections, draft position and his age has been developed.

The arrangements will not apply to contracts for first- and second-year players, rookies and players on minimum CBA payments.
That is significant news.

It doesn't say who. I don't think anyone's guessing that it was, but we can speculate that it may have been. If it was a Crow, it would likely be Paddy IMO.
yep could have been anyone in the comp who it out of contract but this whole threat is speculation so why not throw in something extra to speculate on!

Whatever player it is I'm sure it is someone wanting good coin as this is a way of inking out every extra dollar without holding the club to ransom.

Also, while said player could apply this to any club they signed with it would indicate they are well into negotiations which would make them more likely to be doing dealings to continue at their current club.

Every other player in the comp will owe this player a few beers too!

The ruling may have been asked for as much as three or four months ago? They would have had to spend time ruling on it before making the decision.

very true. Could well have been a contract signed last year (i.e. Ablett) and the player got the personal ruling sorted out but taken until now for it to be processed as being able to be applied to all players

Given Liam Pickering is ablett's manager I think there's a fair chance that it was him.

Its funny, I never want to listen to Dwayne when he speaks..... is it time I should ???

I think not.

I think not also... But, that article does sound genuine.

Here he also has a chance to add fuel to the fire and really stir the pot in terms of Patty's situation, but he chose not to

Its only February. I am willing to go on record and say his opinion will change by July. This is how the media rolls each and every year.

Before 2015 - Media says Danger likely to stay.
Jan 2015 to June 2015 - Media says Danger is undecided.
July 2015 - Media says Danger is leaving.

Expect some media flog to say in November that Danger made up his mind back in October 2013 after we sacked Sando.

Although a forward isnt our highest priority, granted, if JC said i want to come to SA we'd be stupid to not fight tooth and nail to land him, could be the elite forward in the comp and with walker would be a tippet/franklin-like combo. You can't let elite talent slide past because its not your most pressing need. I think its similar to what the recruiters say around draft day, you can never have enough top end talent. Aish could be a gun, cameron is one and almost will certainly become elite. Didnt do sydney any harm with buddy, considering they already had goodes, reid, membrey and tippett.
Which is why I said "unless he was begging to come here". There's no indication that he wants to move, let alone come here.

He's weird, because he can be insufferable as a commentator at times, but everytime i've heard him talk about the Crows this off-season he's been very complimentary (He liked hiring Fagan and Walsh, was one of the few who supported the Crows for firing Sanderson and is now saying Danger is a good chance to stay). He seems to have a pretty good insight into the club at times though.

Considering the speculation was that Danger was amongst a group of players who wanted Sando gone that would indeed be a floggish thing for the media to say.

They smell blood........
Fuc*** worst line in AFL

I thought it was the other way around and that Danger liked Sando and was upset with the Club for sacking him.

Interesting stats speaking to the value of these two:

In 2014, Rory Sloane was No.1 for Champion Data Player Rating points per 30 Disposals, averaging 21.4 points per 30 ahead of Scott Pendlebury, Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett and Brent Harvey.

Patrick Dangerfield won 62 per cent of his possessions when the ball was in dispute – the highest percentage of the top-50 ball winners last season

I've heard both, no idea which one is true. I had though it wasn't perhaps so much he was upset that Sando got the sack, but it was initially played up that he was an important part of Sando getting the boot.

He always finds a way to talk about Port in every Crows game he commentates. Or he will name a Crows player with the ball & then mention who was drafted after them. Massive flog.

You are 100% correct and the audience has to suffer to listen how he manages to bring up Port in every game is amazing and punishing.

He's also stupid enough to think he's hiding his bias. Anybody with half a brain can see where his allegiances lie. This sort of thing is rife in commentary these days. It's disgusting and unprofessional. Commentators need to be able to call the game neutrally but there are very few that are actually capable of this, which is a shaming indictment on the broadcasters. I don't mind the odd past player thrown in for special comments but your main commentators should be held to a much higher standard.
