Wanting to not be mean spirited but this team has played at the MCG unbroken for three months which got them into the four. They then had a fairytail finals beating Brisbane who any team would loved to get in a qualifying final to be gifted a nice break before Geelong. Then got GWS who are the worst GF team since Port. AFL deserve their shit manufactured GF.

They had a dream run but hardly their fault.

We needed to have been then in round 22 but we didn't. It's a one sided system but it is what it is. We know it each season. I thought the Giants had a chance before the game but as soon as I took my seat and saw the crowd, I realised that they had no chance.

At risk of sounding overly salty, Richmond won the premiership in round 22 when they realistically condemned us to 3rd at best.

No other team was going to beat them with that dream MCG run. Even if they had lost in Brisbane they still would have been MCG all the way.

The fact is, if we want to win in 2019 then top 2 is a non-negotiable. We can't finish 3rd/4th and get home games all the way through. Even if we win the qualifying final that's more travelling and you can't do that when the ultimate opponent is a rested, quality home team.

Which is why for a WA team winning in the h/a and in particular - winning well - is imperative.

It was a huge effort to get from 6th to the GF.

Just out of gas and outclassed.

I still don't get how you don't reckon they've done well TBH.

They beat the second worst team in the 8.

Then a very young, inexperience Brisbane that had ran out of legs.

Fell over the line against a Collingwood team missing their best forward, and who only turned up for a single quarter and nearly won the match.

And finally, utterly embarrassed against a decent Tigers team who put them under a modicum of pressure which caused them to shit their pants.

Yeah...not super impressed, anyone one of Collingwood, Geelong, WCE would have made a far better game of it.

If you're using the ladder as guide though, Geelong must by the best.

If Geelong is even half decent they can't help falling into the top four by dint of their fixture.

They're perennial finals cloggers because they have an almost comically good advantage in the home and away.

9 games at KP, 5 MCG and 2 @ Marvel this year...

That's 16 games they don't have to travel for and 9 at a venue no one else plays at, against mostly non-Victorian travelling teams. Not to mention 5 games to tuneup at the G.

If my club had that sort of KY ride i'd be expecting a flag every two years. The handbaggers are the league's ultimate chokers.

Agreed. Felt like that day was the Grand Final. Richmond knew it. We knew it. They rested Martin the week before, as well. They knew that was the game they had to win.

From there, they just had to just come switched on and they'd outclass the rest.

What we can take from that is we can tear Richmond apart when we switch on. Proved that in 2018. Don't go down a rotation early, don't have Barrass be insipid and we can take the Tigers.

Hoping that the team can focus for 2020 and prove this.

Saw parts of the game.

*puke*

Richmond lovefest GWS turning to complete shit.

Meh.

Wish our squad showed as much hunger for flags as the Richmond squad do.

If we get Kelly in next year and fix up the problem we had this year of only turning up for half a game then we’ll be in the mix next year. A few tweaks here and there and I think we can be a top 4 team again, as we should have been this year.

He said Giants were clearly the second best team this year.
It depends if you're judging them on ladder position or where they finished after the finals.

It's all subjective I guess, as most said Richmond were the best team last year which was mostly based on ladder position.

It sucks that it’s like this but it’s reality. The amount of effort it takes for us to win one is a lot more than any of them and even then it takes right up until the last minute to pull through. Richmond and Hawthorn were quality sides but over the last few years we’ve been right on their tail and would have another flag under our belt if we had even half the amount of privileges they have. Makes it sweeter when we win to stick it up them but every other year you realise just how bullshit the whole thing is, they all live in a huge hypocritical bubble over there.

I am judging it on ladder position but even if I wasn’t I would say that GWS were far from being the second best team in the competition this year.

Is it that hard for some of you to accept richmond as the best team this year?
It's pretty clear since they won convincingly.
7 games in a row at mcg is not an argument.

If we played 7 games in a row at home theres no guarantees we could pull off 12 straight wins to a premiership.

We lost at home to hawks ffs. No one to blame but ourselves.

Pull ur heads in and stop sounding like sore losers.

It would be easier to accept if they didnt get an armchair ride at home for the last 9 games.

We had so many chances though.

Up by 16 points against Collingwood at 3/4 time, lost by 1
1st quater blitz against Richmond, get over ran for 2.5 quarters and lose by 6
Lost to the Hawks at home in Round 23

That is just in the last 6 weeks of the season. If you let matches like that slide, you make life very difficult for yourself.

On the other hand, whenever Richmond were challenged they fought back and toughed out the wins against us, both matches against the Lions and the Cats.

We definitely shot ourselves in the foot and took ourselves out of contention. Next year everyone starts at 0 and hopefully with some new additions like Kelly we can mount another charge.

Oh dear 😂😂

If we had 7 games in a row at home I’d guarantee we would finish first or second at a minimum. Especially if those seven games were at the back end of the season where fatigue, injury and general wear and tear is at its highest.

But hey, if you think it is a fair competition then more power to you. Or u I should say.

Wish our squad showed as much hunger for flags as the Richmond squad do.

These kind of posts piss me off.

The squad was clearly hungry enough to win the flag last year, did they not?

It took a shock prelim loss in 2018 to spur on the reigning premiers at the time, who is to say our shock loss to Hawthorn in the last round wouldn't spur us on too?

You can't win all the flags, but given recent history I'd back us to be at the pointy end again sooner rather than later.

Nah, not hungry enough. They just don’t care ok 🙄 Next will be the mentally weak calls, Simmo is too soft, etc etc.

Think you’re underselling it a bit though. That Hawks game came a week after a gruelling away loss to the eventual premiers. Guaranteed if we didn’t have to leave the state for 2 months we would’ve been playing today.

There’s minimal organisation required, drive yourself to training, sleep in your own bed, live a “normal” life for 2 months and get some nice consistency and form. In an elite competition where it’s literally inches between 1st and 5th that is absolutely everything.

On topic, though, Richmond are deserved premiers. They finished 3rd partially because their form was inconsistent at the start of the year, sure their dream run at the MCG helped, but some forget they still travelled in the first week of finals to a top 2 side and did the business.

The competition was very even this year, as usual the team that rocked up in September and not May took the biscuits. Them's the breaks.

Well that was a giant snore-fest! Stopped watching at half time.
Another lopsided GF blowout! So much for equalisation?
Last year was a Grand Final, and that's how they should be, yet often they aren't.
This was a grand debacle.
I find it hard to buy into richmond as best team of the year (or being a sore loser) when they have so much stacked for them.(yes, the friday night games, the 7+ home game run, the lack of travel etc etc..all the usual Vic stuff). For sure, they're in their window, grant that.
They're also not the team of 2018 when we flogged them, don't make that mistake, they're better. Anyway, now they're the hunted after having their GF hangover in '18.
We get to reset with a good shot at preseason, rejig the team and coaching, a new mid or two.
History is actually on our side, more than the dream of B2B, to be right in the mix in this coming season!
