Makes you worry that Willie must be really strugglingAs anti-Richmond as I am, I have great amount of respect for Daniel Rioli. I've seen about four seperate dedications to Willie from him from grand final day.

Sure. Doesn’t make it any less concerning though.Only has himself to blame
Ah well. He just has to do the time and hope he gets an opportunity for redemption.Sure. Doesn’t make it any less concerning though.
AFL continue to think draft picks/access to players is some sort of panacea for a struggling club when all historical evidence is that high draft picks in isolation don’t work
Clubs that succeed do so because they are well run off field. Richmond were a basket case for decades but finally got their back office right when they poached Neil Balme from Collingwood at the end of 2016. They’re now a powerhouse
Gold Coast are a rabble despite great access to high draft picks. Giving them more without addressing their management issues won’t change anything
That is a joke. Literally dragging the league down to prop up this mistake. Fold it or move it for christ sake.
Its an absolute disgrace. One day the AFL will rue taking for granted its traditional supporters.Access to the Darwin zone for the next 3 years is huge.
AFL has purposefully left that zone unallocated as it is rich with Indigenous/multicultural talent and it wouldn't be fair to allocate to a club.
Maybe it’s the first step towards NT Suns? That is a joke. Literally dragging the league down to prop us this mistake. Fold it or move it for christ sake.
Yep that is 100% what is going to happen.Just more high draft picks to eventually end up at Victorian clubs
the richmond model is exactly what the VFL wants
I'm sure that this would have been considered as option 1, however with Gold Coast only having two decent picks in 1 & 15 it wouldn't have made any difference this year. One or both of these picks would have had to be used to bring mature players in, so that explains why the AFL has decided to provide them both a 1st & 2nd rounder this year to use instead.AFL have gone over the top handing out draft picks whereas they should have given GC some additional $$$$$$ allowance to keep players and entice better mature payers to join the Club.

Be that as it may, however the draft picks are a token gesture, that helps the quality of their list in the here and now .
The AFL still haven't addressed the root of GC's problem and thats :
1. Player retention.
2. Attracting QUALITY mature players to join the Club. The only mature player they have attracted to date are other Clubs cast off's and fringe players.
The AFL have only addressed one part of the equation and thats getting young talent into the Club via the Draft ........ how the CG then retains these good players has seemingly been neglected.
Its a half baked cake.
They have addressed player retention. They have followed the GWS route where they give them access to so many quality players so that even if some leave (Shiel, Treloar, McCarthy, etc) there is so much quality on the list that make GFs anyway.

Odd that you choose to demonstrate that they have addressed player retention using the GWS model, by then listing players that have left.
Non Sequitur.
The simple solution is to force teams taking FA's to pay with picksThe point was GWS go access to so much talent they could handle players leaving. That's what the AFL is now trying with GC.
There is no fixing the retention problem in the short term. Only success and culture can do that and that takes time.
So the AFL is going to shotgun approach hoping enough players stick so GC work out.
CEY and Greenwood leaving Adelaide and neither coming here. Dark Sharks and Badge will be inconsolable.
Its from trade radio so probably not even happeningIs the Greenwood deal confirmed?
