Since when does gender orientation have a political bias. kids who are struggling with gender identity aren't extremists. Extremists are people who dismiss every opinion they disagree with as lefty extremism.

Are you throwing shade on Donald Trump again? Thchh.... Tcchh!

900k a year for 5 years for Williams lol

Wow he is good but not 900k good.

With Saad still to come and a heap of players that need re-signing this year and next, Carlton may find it difficult now to find the money to keep P.Cripps without dumping other players.

Either that, or they are already preparing their list for P.Cripp's departure via free agency.

Or are expecting the cap to rise in the future perhaps. I remember when the nba secured a major tv rights deal and the cap bumped allowing the warriors to get Kevin Durant.

I don’t expect a major bump in cap but realistically it should trend up I would have thought

My point isn't about gender orientation having a political bias.

My point is that he made the comment and retracted it, like the thousands of other celebrities/people known in the media who have done or said things, both past and present and made to apologise.

All to please said extremists who are baying for blood.

FA compo really needs to be scrapped.

The amount of contract manipulation to ensure maximum compo is ridiculous.
Adelaide getting a 2nd round pick for losing Atkins, and most likely pick 2 for losing Brouch?! Please......

Just another example of the 2nd rate, amateurish competition I guess.

He absolutely needed to apologise. Whether it's his view or not, as Mayor of Perth he now a responsibility to act on behalf of its citizens so to go out publicly and say that some of these people don't exist the way they want to is a massive punch in the gut to them. People deciding to be Transgender literally has 0 impact on non-Transgender people in the slightest so why does there even have to be a debate? Let people do what they want to do surely.

I wouldn't say scrap it, but do strongly agree that the current implementation is awful.

Always have been of the opinion that the compensation system should be 100% transparent, in addition to player wages - then it is clear for all to see.

Also have been of the opinion that the club gaining the free agent should be made to give up something, as currently it is skewing towards topping up teams that are within a premiership window - which is the opposite from what its original intended effect is supposed to be.

Perhaps, as others have suggested, the compensation pick should come from the club that is gaining the player - i.e. in the case of Z.Williams going as Band 1, Carlton would pass their current pick 7 to GWS rather than GWS receiving a new pick at 11 and Carlton losing nothing. Say, if Carlton did not have a first round pick (due to being previously traded etc), then the deal cannot go through. This also presses further on the argument that the trade period should commence before the free agency period begins.

The above situation would also remedy the circumstance whereby compensation currently dilutes the picks of every other club in the draft as well.

I will never understand why some people get so upset by the idea of apologizing when you do the wrong thing.

Isn't that something you grow out of? Saying sorry when you stuff up is the right thing to do isn't it?

Was just thinking along those lines myself. It's almost as if they know they're going to have heaps of money free up soon. Or maybe this is just all that Gov jr money that will be off the books after next year.

Surely not. I'm assuming it is $900k in one season (significantly less in others) but the journo's have run with the misleading angle:

'5 years, up to $900k a year'

Which really means he is earning $900k in A year, but much less in others.

Or, Carlton are crazy and poorly managed (not unlikely either!)

For most people that would be true, however my own personal experience has encountered many such individuals who have an emotional pathology which prevents them from taking even the very slightest level of responsibility for their mistakes.

Unfortunately I can also attest that the highest levels of government and business in this country are full of these types of people.

Yeah. Or just say sorry to shut people up and move on.

It's pretty easy.

If he stood his ground and argued his point he'd be sacked and all hell breaks loose.

Easier to just go along with the galactically stupid...

Bolded part I absolutely agree with. Again, amateur competition at work.
Also see current status of list sizes, TPP, competition format all still up in the air 🤦‍♂️

The rest of your suggestion would probably create more issues than it solves, and kind of defeats the purpose of free agency when it turns the transactions into proper trades.
If we want a truly FA system, then compo must be scrapped. The reward for losing a FA is the cap space it creates to then go out & recruit another player.
This may become an issue like in NBA where small market teams are disadvantaged, but since we're arguably the biggest club in the land, who cares about the Norfs of the world anyways.

Imagine a world where people had their own opinions and didnt lose their jobs over them...

If people have a right to be transgender, people are entitled to their own opinions about it. it shouldn't create severe uproar within the community if you think having a **** means you're a boy. Just as it shouldn't create the same if people think the opposite. They are exactly that - opinions.

The point is Zempilas made the comment and then decided to say that wasn't something he stood for. It's bs. Its akin to saying you believe in God, then instantly saying you don't just because others don't.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences.

It simply means a government should not be able to arrest and prosecute you for expressing something that is not against the law.

You can pretty much do that in a lot of jobs, i.e. if you dig ditches for a living, nobody cares about your opinion so you can say what you want. Bit different when you're representing a large corporation or city.
