I had RE 1 and 2 on PS1. They were fantastic. True Survival Horror games.

The 1st one was just so brilliant and the 2nd one equally as good IMO.

I played RE3: Nemisis, but never completed it all the way through.

I bought a GC purely for RE4 and it is IMO the best of the series. Sure, it completely changed the gameplay style and could no longer be called Survival Horror (Action Horror is much more fitting). It was so much fun having 10 - 15 infected around you and just mowing them down.

The weapons were great, the upgrading of weapons was well done, the story and varied locations were excellent. I just found it easier to get fully immersed in RE4, and hence I can't wait to see what 5 holds for us.

I bought RE1 (the updated one) on GC and it was a bit different from the original PS1 version and I also bought RE0. I must admit, I found the slow pace a little hard to get back into after playing 4.

Either way, it's a great series and easily one of my favourite franchises.

Just a difference of opinion which is always :thumbsu:

Either way, looks like they are fk up SH 5 so I guess I can't get MORE disappointed :p

Yeah I know its soft ;)

But I still reckon it would be great to remake 2 and 3 but just with minor touch ups (graphics, etc) but yeah, from what I played of 3 it was fantastic. Don't know too much about 2 though, apart from that Leon S. Kennedy and Ada Wong are in it.

Care to fill me in? :)

IGN AU REVIEW RESIDENT EVIL 5

Closing Comments

This review has been quite negative but that’s unavoidable when you’re discussing a good game that follows on from an incredible one. Obviously we wish Resident Evil 5 had achieved more but the bottom line is Capcom has created a solid sequel that is well worth the sticker price. Gorgeous visuals will assault your eyeballs, a great range of co-op options make it a very robust multiplayer experience and an insane wealth of unlockables will keep hardcore fans (like me) replaying it umpteen times.

9.5 Presentation
Capcom delivers an overwhelmingly slick package.

9.5 Graphics
Stunning character models and gorgeous vistas assault your eyeballs.

8.5 Sound
Cheesy dialogue but great weapon effects.

8.0 Gameplay
Slightly old-school controls but still rock solid.

9.5 Lasting Appeal
You could play through it a half dozen times and not unlock everything.

IGN US REVIEW RESIDENT EVIL 5

With Resident Evil 5, Capcom has broken away from many of the survival horror conventions it pioneered. The creepy suspense of the earlier games has been replaced with an action-packed intensity that will instantly appeal to some gamers and disappoint others. As an action game, RE5 is a success, and there’s a wealth of replayability through item collection, weapon upgrades, score chasing and the unlockable Mercenaries mode. But this is no gentle nudge to the formula of the previous main RE games; it’s an evolution. And if you can accept it as that, you just might love Resident Evil 5.

8.0 Presentation
RE5 has a slick look and feel, but there are some usability issues. Split-screen is confusing to use, menus can be somewhat cumbersome and loading is abundant. No Mercenaries online? Really?

9.5 Graphics
One of the prettiest games of this generation. Lighting, textures and landscapes are often stunning. There’s some screen tearing here and there, but it’s minor. Enemy animations quickly grow stale.

9.0 Sound
Music is understated but sets the tone well, especially the nerve-jangling song that plays when enemies approach. Voice acting for most characters is surprisingly good, but some is just terrible.

8.5 Gameplay
What RE5 lacks in standard survival horror it makes up for in action-packed combat, satisfying on-rails segments and killer final chapter. Controls are beginning to feel dated for an action game.

9.0 Lasting Appeal
For a game with no competitive online multiplayer, RE5 has incredible replayability. Beating the game in various ways unlocks modes and features, and Mercenaries will keep you coming back for more.

While it's occasionally hampered by outdated controls and problematic AI, it's the near-mandatory co-op and bombastic assault of visceral silliness that earns Resident Evil 5 its stripes. Sure, it might just be a shinier, snazzier retread of Resi 4 - and certainly, it lacks its forerunner's impressive sense of invention - but this is still big, dumb Grade A entertainment. Is it a classic like it's predecessor? No, but it's a gloriously daft amount of fun and sometimes that's enough.

9.5 Presentation
Some of its core mechanics are a little unrefined but it's a feature-rich and gloriously presented offering.

9.5 Graphics
It's an absolutely gorgeous game, with simply staggering character animations, environments and sheer attention to detail.

9.5 Sound
In terms of blockbuster calibre production, it sounds as good as it looks. From atmospherics to voice and music, it's a sublime cacophony.

8.5 Gameplay
It mightn't be much of a step up from Resi 4 but the relentless variety and staggering set-pieces are irresistible. Single-player suffers from AI issues though and co-op's where it's at.

8.5 Lasting Appeal
You'll breeze through in 12 hours on Normal but co-op, Veteran and the mighty Mercenaries extend life tremendously.

OVERALL 9.0

Man some people on IGN boards who make comments are whingers. They will go apeshit over what they felt 8.9 game being rated 9.3 and vice versa. And if the Australian team give a game they rate highly a bad review they will dish out borderline racist remarks.

Pre-order RE5 at JB Hi-Fi and you get a FREE 7" figurine of either Chris, Sheva or the Executioner, I might have to go down to JB tomorrow and chuck a pre-order on it, and ASK for the executioner one as that one is teh PWNT!!!

I just buy the game and that is that.

I don't bother with limited edition versions and crap like that where you might get a lunch box or doll or some shit.

It's only a video game after all.
The JB version is just the normal version it's only $99, you just get the FREE figurine, I would've got the game from JB anyway(Only probably a couple of days after release), but might as well get something free with it for nothing.

Yeh i've never seen the fascination with getting limited edition crap. Never bother with pre ordering just to get some lame shirt and theres never a need to since i've never seen jb run out of stock.

Yeah the only time i get collectors editions is when they're thrown in for free.

Although i would have liked the fallout 3 one for the complimentary bobblehead

Spoke to a friend of mine who works at JBHifi & she said that resident evil will be $84 on both PS3 & xbox350 but only until Sunday. Or you can trade 2 Ps3 or xbox 360 games for it... you have to go to their website to see what games are excluded (no multiple copies of the same game either) which ends on Monday.

Yeah that's right, i was always going to get the game and was surprised to see today when i picked it up that they were selling it for $84 for a limited time only. It's funny to think EB are trying to flaunt it for $119. Haha, thieves! :D

Am currently up to Chapter/Level 2-2, and am quite impressed with the overall gameplay so far. The amount of interactivity it offers is amazing, particularly during cut-scenes where you are given a chance to participate by quickly selecting a button to make your character perform an action.

This is the first real RE game i've played since i played RE3: Nemesis on PC a few years ago and am quite impressed at how much it has improved. The zombie dogs are more annoying than ever. :D:p I'm yet to play the story mode on co-op, but am amped given how awesome it was on the demo. I might give it a play through by myself and then jump back into it using the co-op mode.

I also like the added difficultly of gradually being able to upgrade your weapons by accumulating gold and money.

Overall 9/10. :thumbsu:

I'll be getting this either tomorrow or Saturday, will give my impressions then, I have a feeling that I will have alot of harsh words to say(Like some of the either lazy or needed development short-cuts that have been taken), but will probably love the co-op like I have with the demo(Which I basically have memorised as to how you get through it now).

Have to say I am interested to see what the HOME space is going to be like, apparently it will be getting a heap of features(Arcades, etc.) so will be good to see how it works out, the HOME space has shown some fantastic adapting in terms of graphics: Resident Evil 5 versus HOME

Also there is some DLC coming out soon, rumoured to be a Versus and Slayer modes for Mercenaries.

it's gotten alot of advertisement

it's on like 80% of the bus shelters i've driven past for the last week.
The confuse it with old Res 4 advertisements...
