12 years is a long time.

Richmond and Brisbane have both been mediocre to poor over that time (our mediocrity stretches back over three decades) :$

This is the head to head between the Tigers and Lions from 2005 to 2016:

Richmond - 13
Brisbane - 1
Draws - 1

Richmond have won their last 7 games against Brisbane at the Gabba. This is a remarkable achievement in itself.

Richmond's current winning streak over the Lions is 9 games, and the last time Brisbane beat Richmond was in 2009.

Despite both teams having their ups and downs over the last 12 years (mostly downs), Richmond continue to put the Lions away.

Why is that?

... and that match was at the MCG.

Looking at the scores for RFC v BL matches BL have really struggled to kick more than 100 points. When BL did win during the period in question they kept Richmond to under 80 points. BL have only scored more than 100 once since 2004 - but they lost that match; the general trend before that though was that if they could score 100+ they'd keep RFC under 100 and win the match. How much this reflects the each side's powers of attack and defence I'll leave others to sort out.

As to why this run has gone relativly unnoticed I can only suggest both teams' lack of particiaption in the finals; if some of this record had included a few finals matches I think somethign might have been made of this.

Geelong's record over Richmond since 2007 is far more impressive. If you trace back to 1983, I think you'll find we've beaten them like 8 times in 32 years.

2014 - Geelong DEF Richmond 81-76
2013 - Geelong DEF Richmond 131-87
2012 - Geelong DEF Richmond 75-65
2011 - Geelong DEF Richmond 113-51
2010 - Geelong DEF Richmond 161-53
2009 - Geelong DEF Richmond 105-85
2008 - Geelong DEF Richmond 134-71
2008 - Geelong DEF Richmond 99-69
2007 - Geelong DEF Richmond 139-69
2007 - Geelong DEF Richmond 222-65

10-0.

Can only imagine what Joel would have done in that situation.

This is dominance. 1 loss in 14 years of football.

Richmond have won 7 games in a row at the Gabba, which is a remarkable achievement in itself.

We always hear about Collingwood's record at ANZ Stadium and their dominance over Sydney, yet never hear anything about Richmond's record at the Gabba and dominance over Brisbane.

Richmond's current winning streak over the Lions is 8 games, and the last time Brisbane beat Richmond was in 2009.

Despite both teams having their ups and downs over the last 11 years (mostly downs), Richmond continue to put the Lions away.

Why is that?

While Richmond have not been all that great since 2005, they have been far superior to Brisbane in that time. Hence the term bogey cannot really be used. Bogey is simply put a side that is equal or weaker than the opposition but continue to beat them.

Best example for modern time (without being biased) is Melbourne and Essendon. 4 of the last 5 matches gone our way.
