Part of that weird 6 week period where Carlisle looked like the second coming of Simon Madden.

Hooker and Hurley back, Carlisle and Fletcher forward 😂

He had that game and a 4 goal, 26 touch, 18 mark effort that ended Nick Maxwell’s career in consecutive weeks then doomed it up. The 8 goals against the dogs he almost looked like he was hating. Weird cat old Jakey

Thats arrogant dude when you know we are debating it. We didn’t cover that precise part of the rules that gives a strong clue about the “interpretation”.

Can you point to anything outside the written rule that supports the so-called interpretation you believe exists? Like a specific piece of collateral?

The evidence is in favour of the rule being a no-prior situation only. I’ve not seen anything that supports it being applicable to instances where there’s prior. Any commentary, article, video etc from the AFL would be helpful.
It's not arrogant, it was frustration. You'd already raised the rules and I'd explained I wasn't talking about that I said interpretations, you then quoted the rules. The very thing I'd already explained I wasn't referring too.

Is there any article or anything on their website? Probably not, the AFL is very clever at keeping the fans in the dark with whatever interpretation they're shoving down the umpiring departments throats. I've expressed my frustration at the lack of communication and accountability to fans on this matter before.

There's been plenty of in game commentary from commentators bemused by non decisions and any game day thread on any board on this website is flooded with confusion as to why the free kicks that used to be paid under the old interpretation are no longer.

Fascinating how the same game is seen differently.

I listened to the game on MMM. Last quarter Tippa took a mark, held it up and hit a slow kick inside 50. Malthouse and Ling on MMM were critical of Tippa holding the pill to long and our forwards not leading up.

Channel 7 commentary on the other hand on the same play was complimentary of Tippa holding it up, allowing our forwards to get back and spread.
heh, don't even remember this. Any idea how far into the quarter? interested in chasing it up

As eth-dog said it was ABC not MMM. Probably 10 into the last? Tippa took a mark on the far side edge of the centre square, I'd say 70 out?

Ok. It came across to me as arrogance but I see it from your perspective.

Anyway, I’m comfortable with the point I’ve made on the whole. Will leave it there and enjoy the win from here.

The incredibly unexpected win. Pleasure to be on the end of one of those for once

Shout out to the defence. Yeah Dogs missed some sitters but considering Dogs 60 inside 50s did a terrific job. Laverde and Ridley with 17 intercepts between them

A number of their I50s were repeats from a kick in after a miss. On their board they're clutching at CDs "Expected Score" that had them "winning" by 34 points. Except that if some of those misses were goals the ball goes back to the center where we'd flogged them all day.

Hope they're enjoying their "Expected win". I'm enjoying the actual four points.

I think one part of the issue is so many free-kicks are decided in "neutral" circumstances when possession is being contested (ie marking contests). this means it's usually impossible to assume which direction in the free-kick is going in. this then means that, for the attacking team, they can cheat and just assume the free-kick is theirs and take advantage and kick a goal, and if it is the umpire will pay advantage and if it isn't, well it never gets paid as 50meters the other way. I would be strongly in favour of investigating whether simply not allowing advantage in these neutral circumstances would be a good thing.
That is how it works in soccer and would work in footy.

If the team receiving the free kick already has the ball then they needn't even know a free is called; the umpire will pull it back if there is no advantage.

If the ball is in dispute, neutral, whatever, the whistle is blown - you can't then "cheat" an advantage once everyone else has stopped because advantage no longer applies. It also makes 50s so clear that players would have to be stupid to concede them - play on after the whistle has gone but before the kick is awarded and it's automatically 50 or a reversed free.

Maybe it slows the latter scenario down a touch, but it's worth it for the former.

Just got done with the replay. Bloody good win but I kinda feel like we maybe should've won by more? To be up by 24 points with nine minutes to go and then only win by a couple goals is a bit...I dunno, deflating?

Can't complain too much as they definitely came hard late and we didn't completely put the cue in the rack. We were still trying to get it forward and kick goals till the end. Big ticks to the backline for holding up and for Draper slotting into the hole.

Really hope Francis sticks around and doesn't request a trade at the end of the season. He looked really good up forward and I definitely think he, Wright and Jones can make that forward fifty sing if they spend a pre-season training as a group together.

Legit didn't think Wright had seven goals in him, but I'm so glad he did. Easily could've kicked an eighth goal if that last shot had been a bit closer in.

No matter what happens the next two weeks, this has been a great first season of the rebuild. Took us almost all year but we finally got the big scalp we wanted.

Bring on Gold Coast next week!

was his that late kick to go 4 up that barely went 30m?

1st out when McGrath/Heppell back
TBH, i'd drop him for Perkins now he's had his rest.
Exactly. We need to stamp that sort of selfishness out of the side, and build a culture that is a winning one. I dare say Merrett, tippa etc would of saw a guy on fire, wide open going for his 8th goal, and would of passed it.

If you’re going to take that shot, you have to kick it. He actually thinks he’s better than what he is. He needs to know his limitations. I saw him lurking around multiple times looking for the hand off around the 50 m arc to go for goal, and he can’t kick 30 m.
