It was definitely 2 of their better games - but it doesn't really make me forget all the poor ones.

The highlight of the game for me was the the clutch goals of MRJ, Clarke & Ralph-Smith. This game was the best mix of experience players laying the bricks & our young-guns adding enthusiasm on top to equate to a high level performance & it unsurprsingly was the best performance we have had in over a year. The importance this game will have in those 3 boys + Ross & Gibcus development is immense. That 1 game in the AFL was worth more than a season in the VFL for RCD & that is why you NEED to play kids at a certain point - to get you to your next checkpoint of improvement quicker.
Agree BUT playing all these kids in a big pressure match cost us a win MRJ/Clarke less than 10 disposal and few tacjles
Gibcus worse game for the year
Ross very good
Basically we played one too many first year players not big enough or strong enough Stack would have been a better option

I agree the kids may have made it hard for us to win but IMHO i think the coaching staff and club have looked at the bigger picture.
Should we make finals (and i think we will) the kids have an experience of playing a finals type game and if we need the kids to step in for the finals at least they have a taste of what to expect.
Sometimes you have to take two steps backwards to go one step forward.

If we intend to have Tarrant take Kennedy and Broad on Darling, then I don't see the point of keeping Gibcus or bringing in Miller. Thought yesterday showed that if Broad was taking an opposition KPF like Cameron, then it left Gibcus without a natural matchup once Soldo was subbed on.
Yeah we might be better off going smaller down back and bringing in Mansell, who is just as deserving of a game as Miller.

You're continually making a goose of yourself. Let it go!!!!

You've made a bad call. Deal with it. Or would you like me to call Chris Scott to release a statement for you?
Did genuinely LOL!

He would be the guy to call if you were caught with your hand in the cookie jar, wouldn't he?

People say Geelong are too old and slow yet they run out games better than anyone. Overran us, the bulldogs and collingwood. By contrast we got overran by them sydney and stkilda. That's sadly going to be the difference between top 8 and top 4. At best we will finish 6th. Our inability to win close games and run out games has hurt us big time this season. We used to be a lot mentally tougher

Said it before give us the frees the opposition get against us and we would be top 4
Every week we are up against one sided umpiring and that is fact.

Won’t be a thrashing like last time. You guys are slowly hitting the straps. Saw you had your first win against highly South Fremantle in the WAFL. Big margin too. What happened there?
Nic nat played. He makes us walk taller. Imagine what he does in a lower level comp like the wafl. We win clearances when he plays, something we have been ridiculously weak at since his injury. We went on our horrid 10+ goal losing streak the moment he left the side due to injury. Eagles might err on the side of caution and wait another week before playing him in the senior side. We've given a couple of our other long term injured players two or more weeks in the wafl before playing them (Yeo, Sheed etc).

It's the action of players going hard at the contest/opponent that I'm defending, not the outcome of Stewarts action which was poor.

How do we laud what Stack did to Viney, but then criticise what Stewart did to Prestia? When the only difference is that Viney did an AC joint, while Prestia got knocked out. It's that act of player against player that makes our game great, sometimes it goes wrong, but most of the times it doesn't.

Because Stack didn’t collect his head and cause possible long-term brain damage. My son plays U19 footy … if someone breaks his collarbone in a bump I’m cool with that. If someone did to him what Stewart did to Prestia I’m jumping the fence. AC joints and collarbones heal. A lot of times head trauma doesn’t.

Of course he has a duty of care and in this instance he has failed to do so and he'll cop a few weeks on the side line as a result. My point is that this game is unique in that we have players who attack the ball/contest at speed from 360 degrees and need to make split second decisions as to whether they bump or tackle, none are going to last very long at the highest level if they opt to avoid contact and just let the opposition have an easy touch. This board is littered with posts where our own players crucified because they 'shirked' contact and wouldn't put their bodies on the line when they should have and there are plenty where our own are celebrated for doing similar to what Stewart did if not worse (see Vickery clocking Cox and Turner laying out O'Donnell as 2 examples)

As I mentioned earlier Marlion Pickett was lauded for his bump on Moore against Hawthorn and we all cried foul when he was suspended for it. For mine we can't have it both ways, we can't expect our players to go hard at the opponent/contest and then get upset when the opposition does the same to us.

Marlion Pickett did everything in his power to execute a fair bump. It was not behind play and was a shepherding action appropriate to the situation. Moore got a tiny clip to the head and got straight up as majority of impact was body. Stack on Viney the same …a football action appropriate for the situation and executed well. Both Moore and Viney would have been expecting forceful contact.

Stewart’s was different as he barely did anything to try and execute a fair bump. He lined him up, saw the opportunity and went wooshka on an opponent in a vulnerable position.

There are 2 separate decisions that Stewart makes, the first one was to come forward to engage Prestia, that is legal. The second decision to lay the late bump is illegal, that he got him high and knocked him out makes it worse.
Excellent. Now that you have admitted the bump was illegal (regardless of head high contact), you can see how the fans are up in arms about it. Pickett got 2 weeks for a legal bump (in context of the play) that got Moore high. This is the major difference.

If you wanted to lay it out in absolute simple terms;
Pickett Bump - Proper play, poor execution
Stewart Bump - Improper play, poor execution

I hope now you can see that your "want to defend aggressive play/actions" is misguided in Stewarts play. I can almost guarantee you, that most of the footy world would not have this big an issue with the bump if it happened as Prestia made contact with the ball. The reason people are upset is because Stewart made an illegal bump that resulted in a concussion. If it were a legal bump that ended in concussion (within reason, no elbows out/GAbblett bumper bars) then most of the footy world would just be saying "well it is a horrible accident that this happened but it can happen".

Also on another note, the Tribunal/MRO needs a major overhaul. There has to be some weighting in incidents as to whether or not if the high/forceful contact did not occur would it have been legal in the rules. The fact that Stewart could get the same as a player who has accidentally caused a concussion in a spoiling attempt just doesn't sit right

Minimal changes imo after that effort.

Out: Prestia, Clarke (rested)
In: Cotchin, Lambert

If Cotchin, Lambert dont get up then Stack and Cumbo next in line.
Different base positions I know but we are relatively flexible.

Selection committee will be tempted by Castagna, Aarts, Mansell.
Banks would be in if we didn't have adequate coverage on the wings.

Edwards not worth mentioning because Dimma still going to play him.

Think we'll persevere with Gibcus and Miller will have to wait.

Have I missed anyone?

This game will give young Ross enormous confidence in his own self belief moving forward. When our midfield is at full strength hopefully in the next few weeks, I'd play all of Cotch, Meatball and Ross in the guts while rotating Bolton, Baker for speed on the ball. By having this much ball winning ability I can see our stoppage and clearance work going through the roof in turn allowing us to play just the one ruck in Nank most games with Soldo as backup depending on the oppo. Having Balta back will be huge and Lambo I think should be our sub sometimes when fit to play. Think we need to use Lambo and Edwards smartly just to keep them able to get through games and hopefully rolling in the finals. Dimma has some interesting selection dilemmas the next block of 4 games I reckon.
juggling act.

graham, cotch and lambert are locks but having ross and shedda as all five in our 22 as the rotating mids make us a bit short and slow.

meatball, short, baker, dusty and bolton also included as rotating mids.

but thats 10 good mids but only baker and bolton with plenty of toe and only bolton and dusty capable in the strong overhead marking.

concerns.

Allowing play to go on while Prestia’s head was reattached was criminal. Those umps deserve as much time off as Stewart gets. We’ll never get that goal back that cost us our spot in the 8, and Prestia loses 2 weeks and maybe a couple years off his life. I think 6-8 weeks is fair for the lot of them.

I’d very much like to know what the club’s doing about the free kick differential too. We are (edit) at -72, and the next team (St. K) more than half that at -29, then -22 (a third, WC) and -17 (a qtr, Syd/Haw).

Are we expected to believe that we’re that bad at tackling, that bad at disposing of the footy, and that undisciplined? Do we really accept that every other team is that disciplined, but only against us? Please...

Am I going to get my membership fees refunded by the AFL when their umps rob us of a top 4 or 8 spot?

Unfortunately I am starting to believe Richmond should put player welfare first. In sitting down with Lambert and making a decision. So hope we keep him on as an assistant beyond his playing career. Wouldn’t bring him in vs the eagles as we should win anyhow.
if both fit its perfect for shedda (sub) and lambert to be in our 23 v eagles....lambert plays his guts out for between 45-55 minutes and is subbed off and has a rest v gold coast and ready for R18 v north .....shedda has half a game v eagles and if goes alright can then be less taxed for the suns game.

Hope the boys aren’t flat after that epic game

It’s now a must win but very confident!
We’ve lost too many games this year being in winnable positions. Blues round 1 (up 20+ last term), Saints at marvel (4 goals up pre grimes hammy), Swans (31 points up) , Cats on the weekend up 17 points last term. It’s amazing that winning those close ones would have us 1st on the ladder on 48 points. Crazy hey, just hope it doesn’t bite us in the ass

It’s Very disappointing but also shows that we are a genuine threat again. The jokes of where we currently sit is funny now but what’s even better is that when we get into the finals those people laughing will be nowhere to be seen 👍🏻

Outs Dion, Clarke, Gibcus (don’t need him this week and needs a break)

Ins Cotch, Stack, Lambert in as sub

Soldo Will Get a game if they play nicnat

Would love to see Cumberland get a crack!
