Really hard to get over this loss, on a positive note I thought Jack Ross deserves to stay in the team. He can gain confidence from this performance and become the player we'd hope for, kind of taking the Cotchin role and remembering he's still only 21.

Tom Lynch has to be the best key forward in the game and is definitely back to his 2019 form (handball on the wing was brilliant).

I wasn’t exactly thinking this when he dropped a chest mark 5 meters out!!

Don’t think that would be worth it, more bulk = less speed and he already isn’t overly fast
He has a good balance atm

He's still only 21. He'll get there. Last night was a massive step in the right direction for him. First time in a while he looked like he belonged.

Poorly coached ? mate we lost those 3 close games because of lack of composure , footy smarts and not taking our chances at times that's on the players not the coach.I agree Edwards at times hasn't been great and is a perfect substitute with Tarrant it's horses for courses on the big forwards.

It’s called VAR - any concussion video reviewed and player sent off. It’s not hard - and making 17 vs 18 would have had huge ramifications - especially as Stewart had a huge game too.

And they did give a free for high contact. It was noted and Graham took the kick.

You are right, that is a system already in place we could just extend to ensure sensible outcomes.

With the plethora of fabric destroying rule changes we have had to eat over the past decade, its crazy to think they have done nothing to penalise violent behaviour, in-game. With the VAR style you suggest, a incident which has been referred to VAR for "serious incident" can then lead to a sending off, or additional 50m penalty added to the free. Its crazy, we award 50's for inconsequential encroachment of the mark, but there is nothing of the sort added to free kicks due to violence. So in the case of Stewart, the incident would be reviewed - a free kick + 50 would be awarded, plus a player send off due subbing being required to cover the collateral damage entailed.

The only problem i see with that system is the AFL would be sure to **** it up, or the seduction of being able to manipulate results & fortunes would be too much for them to resist. The idea is great, but unfortunately the confidence in the league is so low due to fears of incompetence & corruption - just makes me think it would actually be a bad idea

I think we've slightly misjudged the impact of 2 covid years for players like Ross, RCD, Cumberland, Ryan etc.

This is what, only their second real full AFL preseason? Ross' good VFL form might've just been delayed cause of the disruptions.

It was definitely 2 of their better games - but it doesn't really make me forget all the poor ones.

The highlight of the game for me was the the clutch goals of MRJ, Clarke & Ralph-Smith. This game was the best mix of experience players laying the bricks & our young-guns adding enthusiasm on top to equate to a high level performance & it unsurprsingly was the best performance we have had in over a year. The importance this game will have in those 3 boys + Ross & Gibcus development is immense. That 1 game in the AFL was worth more than a season in the VFL for RCD & that is why you NEED to play kids at a certain point - to get you to your next checkpoint of improvement quicker.

Think if we win the games we should win (i.e the next 3) we should get back into the 8 before we tackle freo brisbane and port (away) - those 3 really could either away - then hawks essendon should be another 2 win - that gets us to 13 wins and 14 if we pip port away - probably puts us 6-8th and at this point im confident we could take any team who finishes 1st - 5th in the finals.
