Not much use looking at totals. Players who've played lots of games are going to have highest number of career clangers. Players who've played most games being the best players of course.
Sorted by average clangers would be a much more useful . Oliver averaging 3.9 for career and even worse over last 3 years: 4.1 (2020), 5.0 (2019), and 4.0 (2018). Dusty and Buddy are the only ones who come near that, and both possess magic that Oliver do not. Dusty might have 4 clangers, but he'll nail a heap of his kicks too

Zach Merrett a bit stiff?
I don't love the Gunston selection.Ok his stats are good, just seems a very underwhelming option as a key forward target. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Not for me. Was surprised to see him in many named sides. He’s been okay but McGrath was Essendon’s best midfielder and he was injured for the last few rounds.

I also am not sure how McCluggage gets in. I really like him and thinks he goes on to become a super player, but he just has too many quiet games to be in it I think. Only had 6 games of 20 possessions. Averaged under 19 disposals (18.7) and kicked 7.20 from 17 games. That is butchery! While Mitch Duncan averaged 19.4 (but missed essentially a whole game injured which dragged his average down (otherwise would be 20.5), and kicked 12 goals from his 16 (really 15) games.
I think one poster earlier nailed it, blokes like McCluggage and Butters included to make sure top two teams have high number of nominations. Butters FWIW has been very good and will be a legend in time, but again it's a stretch to have him top 40 at this point. And as for young players, I'd take Bailey Smith over him (although recognise they play a different role at this point)

We are apparently the benchmark of the competition and only 3 players named in the squad and to be honest I don't think any of them will make it.

It's all about the Spurs mentality at Richmond.

If you don't know what that means, then you don't realise why Richmond are consistently good

My team, from those nominated:
Haynes - Andrews - Maynard
Daniel - D.Moore - Ridley
Macrae - Petracca - Guthrie
Liam Ryan - Dixon - Dusty
Papley - Hawkins - Butler
Nic Nat - Boak - Neale
Pendles - Steele - Luke Ryan - Danger

Papley I thought long and hard, whenever I've watched him he seems to just be going for glory at the expense of teammates, and had an extended period of average form in the back half of the season, but I've put him in anyhow for lack of good alternatives. Also Dusty for me is the standout best fwd/mid and I think a lack of other good forward options gets him in too.
Danger I wasn't going to put him in, but he is so high for score involvements, plus contested possessions, metres gained, that he is a multi-faceted threat.
Would've had Duncan on a wing (and Guthrie to bench for Danger) but he wasn't nominated.
Sheppard I love obviously as an Eagles supporter but not sure he quite makes it. Vlastuin I was tossing up with Caleb Daniel as to who goes in.
Pendles I think impacted a lot in his 13 games, and give me 25 of his touches over Adams, Oliver, Fyfe, and the others who were nominated any day of the week.
CHB I just went on stats (intercepts and contested possession loss %) as none of Weitering, Jonas or Moore were banging the door down I thought.
Team perhaps a little short.

Really think it will be one of the weakest AA teams ever

Leaked AA team

Vlastuin Andrews L Ryan
C Daniel D Grimes B Sheppard
S Menegola T Boak C Petracca
P Dangerfield C Dixon D Martin
D Butler T Hawkins T Papley
Nic Nat L Neale J Steele
J Macrae M Gawn Bont J Ridley

According to the list posted, May wasn't his opponent at the time.
That goals on may list seems pointless if he isnt standing the oppositions key forward for the game. Its easy to have 0 goals kicked on you when they're not your direct opponent [emoji53]

If true, it's a joke having Petracca on a wing. He just doesn't play that role and it robs a worthy wingman of a selection.

But he does.

Who knows, he may have been on the bench at that moment.

Try not to be so triggered over one goal example across an entire season.

Maybe not Martin's best year but he's a victim of his own high standards. I vote 5-4-3-2-1 on Richmond every week and had Martin clearly on top. Best player in a team that won 12.5 games has to count for something.

He's only had three AA's, on a par with good players like Garry Lyon, Matthew Boyd and Dan Hannebery, and this may well be the sixth straight year that he's top 7 in the Brownlow, so selectors probably owe him.

Even Dusty's ordinary form is pretty good and he is no doubt one of the top 3 or 4 players in the AFL. But AA has to be about what happened this year. I don't think Dusty has had a poor season but I think there are too many ahead of him for him to make final 22.

Nah not triggered just was wondering how that list is compiled, surely a total goals kicked on player over entirety of game would be a better indicator.

I didn't think May had an AA year...at least the first half year. His second half no doubt was excellent but one rarely gets selected for AA honours playing a half season at that level.

I'm still sceptical on Maynard...I just think there are others ahead of him. Tend to think I may be proven wrong on him though.

As for the Tiges, I do think Martin and Grimes will make it and I think Vlaustin is definitely worthy of a HBF spot. Not sure he'll get it though. He and Haynes are clearly the best in the role they play.
If you have a look at the entire year as an average May is ahead of all the other KPDs... he should be first defender selected in the team let alone the squad. May was the best defender. Not only did his opponent hardly ever score on him (even in games we lost) he had a tonne of the ball and basically double the metres gained of the other KPDs chosen. And that’s going at 80% efficiency.

Not sure what else someone has to do.

He plays for Collingwood. That's a leg up already.

Yeah he is one whose number dont stand out and in games i have seen some pretty average performances, including his ordinary goal kicking.

Not saying Sam Walsh should be in but he had a better year than McLuggage.

I think Walsh had a poor start but a great finish. His back end was maybe the best of any wings. Would be a good bet to be an AA wing next year.

I also don't think McClugg makes the team this year. He has had a few amazing games this year and would be pretty high in goal assists and score involvements but his goal scoring record drags him down. He also struggled for a month or so in the middle after he hurt his shoulder.

Personally thought Menengola has been the best winger all year and assume they will cram another inside/outside mid on the other flank

Yeah in a shortened season if you are off for a month then you miss in my opinion. I was surprised Andrews got in based on missing a month even though the other 13 weeks were clearly AA quality.

Yeah Andrews is right on the edge I assume. There is that graph further up about 1on1 losses and Andrews from memory was way out in front before he got injured. He was the stabdout defender for the majority of the year. But missing 3.5 games is a lot to over come.

Eagles fans hated the discussion but earlier in the year it was argued whether NN only playing 60% game time was better than slightly lesser rucks playing 90%. Then all the other rucks went to crap and the argument was over

Good to see some people have Oliver in their team. Criminally underrated. The kid is a superstar.

Richmond consistently good?

Are you four years old?

Finals Teams: x 29 Players
Non Finals Teams: x 11 Players

Do people think this ratio is fair or should it be more or less ? Genuine question.
Id say its somewhat logical, the best teams are that generally because they have the best players.
