I like c bock. He seems like a good reader of the play. Looks a bit like westhoff though, a real stick and do we really need another ruck?
IMO I think we should get a developing ruckman, but we dont have to.
With McKernan, he can rotate like Tippett, and at the moment I dont think we have to get another ruck.

I disagree. We need another ruck. I would go as far as to say it's arguably the most important thing to get from the rookie draft.

We don't need a ruck for the next two years, but the fact remains that we really only have four natural rucks on our list - and two of them in Tippett and now McKernan hopefully will not be playing ruck. Griffin's body still has question marks over it which leaves us with a solitary main ruck, Maric.

It won't be an issue for the next couple of years, but we need a rookie ruck or two developing so that when the time comes, we have options there. It would be a massive pity to have to play McKernan in the ruck instead of a KP post because we lack other options.

I thought that sibosodo guy was meant to go in the draft? Like mid placement. Didnt he get selected at all?

I can only offer my insights into Woodville West Torrens, and perhaps even sturt to a lesser extent.

Bock would be the prime player for a selection. He is huge, although he broke his collar bone in the 2nd round this year, he was showing some really promising signs. But like all big men, when they get an injury it takes a little longer to recover and to get back into things. Perhaps this could play into our favour and he may go under the radar. He would be a worthwhile pick IMO.

Probably the only other I can think of is either Nathan Daniel or Matthew Goldworthy (may not be old enough). Nathan is probably the fittest bloke at Woodville, is tough as nails, good skills and never stops running. Goldy is just a kid, but has an exellent footy brain. I am thinking a forward pocket specialist. Would be a gamble though.

Sturt I would actually back a spot for John McDonald. I critised him last year, but I think with a solid pre season and the right attitude he could be a decent player. Has a thumping kick and is a good shot on goal.

He didn't, no. He got sudden last-minute hype on here when Quayle rated him #25 in the draft and rumours linked him to Adelaide. He's not a possibility for a rookie.

I must admit, I don't know much about Christian Bock but I have a vague recollection of hearing bad things about him. Anyone know more?

Yeah have heard mixed reports, but if he's anything like his brother, he might be a bit of a late developer, so a spot on the rookie list wouldn't be too much of a long shot. I believe someone reported that the Crows hadn't ruled out young Bock as a rookie, but did rule out the young VB, so who knows.

i think the best available from wherever they originate is the way to go

but i'ld like Charlie Sharples & Rockliff but i doubt both or either will be available at our pick(s), ditto Sibosado although i get the impression he is not the type we are looking for

wasnt there a ruckman Dodman ??? or something like that, who we were "hiding" or considering as a project type?

Somehow that piece seems odd to me. How would the newspaper know we rung him after the draft? Unless he told them. Doesn't seem like the sort of thing we'd advertise.

Edit: Assuming we did ring him, I imagine we had told him to expect to get picked up with a late pick, but when Young fell our way (recall the Burgatron had him going to the Bulldogs with pick 32... the Doggies didn't have any picks after 32...) we went with him instead. If we did ring Sibo we probably told him that he won't end up undrafted and that if nobody else picks him up first we'll rookie him with one of our picks.

Completely speculative of course, but hey, that's the fun of the draft :p

I disagree. We need another ruck ...

Sheesh, enough with the rucks, already!

Griffin
Maric
Moran
Tippett
McKernan
Seller in a pinch ...

We're covered. Grab one with the last pick IF WE MUST, but let's get some small forwards and mobile types.

Yeah, found that very interesting, I feelings were that he wasn't on our 27 list as such, but was possibly #28, assuming we hadn't gone too tall or anything already, but since we didn't get off our 27 list, he didn't get drafted. Looks like he might be a rookie pick though.

Only two of them are going to play as rucks, the top two. Moran is not going to be a ruckman for the Crows. Tippett can play ruck but they have made it very clear they expect him to be a forward. McKernan was not hired as a ruckman and Sellar is not going to be a ruckman either. McKernan may grow but both he and Sellar are too short to be true ruckmen.

We only have four real ruckmen on our list; Maric, Griffin, Tippett and McKernan. That is not enough, considering we don't expect two of them to play in that position.

was Young rated as our 27th best on the draft? I must have missed that

So that would make Rendells rankings:

Davis 2nd
Mc Kernan 3rd-14th?
Sloane 15th
Lee 18th
Young 27th

Rendell did state last week that the Crows had 4 quality young ruckmen on their list so I believe they do think Moran can do this job
