Which is why he shouldn't be a certainty. I still feel in a final I'd gamble on Goodes, but it is exactly that, an absolute gamble.

Im not convinced that his body is right still

Join the club. Always feel if playing on is your 2nd thought, it isn't a smart idea. Blind Freddy knows if we won last year Goodes would have retired. Has he not trusted his body? I don't know.

Everything you say re sub at the end is true but suggests to me the answer is goodes

But what happens when a player goes down in the first quarter? We're left activating a player who may struggle to run out the game or effectively down a rotation. It's a big risk. If Goodesy is used as the super sub, it should be done sparingly, as in maybe 8-10 games this season (and out for the rest of it).

After round 18, if he is still getting a spot in the side, that's the spot for him.

It is the sort of gamble you would take in a Final. To me though, this is the last season. I am hoping beyond hope that he hasn't done a ROK and gone 1 season too long.

If Reg or Ted go down (sounds like an On the Buses episode) Laidler is my choice to take one of the key forwards. Not sure if he's big enough, but neither was Leo Barry.

Depends if you feel Alir is ready...I haven't seen enough of him to make a call.

So start goodes to avoid being stuck with him

The coaches played Richards ahead of him in the NAB challenge, and he didn't get any game time at all. That suggests they don't see him as anywhere near ready.

You would assume that was to give Richards some gametime. Xavier is a chance though, just not sure he has 'it', rather I feel he will be depth.

You have a bigger set on him than I have of the squib in 32. Mixed emotions on Saturday ?

No mixed emotions that side is dead and buried to me. Swans fan, red zone member and loving it.

Lol I respect Goodes but firmly believe that if you were going to retire last year, you should do that. Sport rarely gives fairytales, and he could have gone out having been out only decent player in the last game. Instead I think he has second guessed himself and it has backfired.

Given that the 3 other talls had 12 possies between them at 3/4 time it's a bit harsh to single out Goodes who had about 7 by then. Should have banged that goal but needed to settle his stride before he let fly. Not the only one to fluff his disposals.

Lots saying that Lloyd should play a full game but as a sub he did very well. Came on and added some fresh legs and had an impact. Ideal sub in my book. It's one thing to say we need an effective sub but it seems whenever someone is effective they get promoted to a full game. Lloyd fits the position at present and could do the sub role for a few games before rotating with someone who needs a rest. We need to stop looking at the sub role as a punishment. It's a crap idea of the AFL but we need to work it as best as we can.
Would like to see Lloyd, Towers and Cunningham taking turns as sub. I think players need full games most weeks to keep match fitness up, so i don't like the idea of a permanent sub. Those three can come on an have an impact, so the idea of each being sub every three weeks seems a good solution to keep the team structure.

ffs its round 1 in the rain and shit location and he always starts slow

He is also a year older having only played a handful (at most) good games in 2014. Enlighten me what tells you this will change whilst he is a a year older?

Christ you've only been on board for 5 minutes

My point has always been the same. If someone wants to retire then backflips, how often does it work? Maybe 1 in 10, and that is generous.

I just hope Horse has the nuts to make the call if it fails. It took 15+ rounds for Goodes to play well last year unfortunately.
