OUT: This 'Opening Round' nonsense.

IN: Round 1 - where every team is fixtured to play.
Keep the Northern states 1st if they want but I’d like to see 9 standalone games spread over 9 days , everyone gets a good look at everyone else and fans can really get their teeth into the new season

Changes from last year:
M Cox > Reidy
Voss > Banfield (he was 7th forward that day)
Erasmus > Sharp
Young > Noddy
McDonald < B Cox
Chapman = Ryan
McVee > Draper
Bolton > Frederick

Assuming we play it safe with Darcy and Ryan but Pearce and Young get up.

Only downgrade would be McDonald for B Cox, everything else looks like an upgrade to me.

Tobyn to get a debut in place of Freddy? Good opportunity in front of all his mates, might be a bit of an ask for him though

Reckon Pearce and Ryan play

Tobyn was also in the rehab group on Friday, didn’t look significant though.

Complete lack of medium forwards is a concern.
Just plug Banfield there and hope for the best.

The pessimistic in me is saying Geelong by 40+. If there’s no Cox, Pearce, Darcy whilst Cats get Dangerfield, Stengle and Cameron back. Hard to see how can combat that

Beat them in the middle, like Gold Coast did.

Stengle isn't coming back this round is he? I think he missed months of training for the blanket 'personal reasons' explanation
Cameron and Danger may get up but will be underdone

Stengle is weeks if not months away from AFL. Has been in full training for weeks but club says he will return via VFL.

Dangerfield and Cameron should play this week, but we were told Cameron would definitely play last week too so who knows?

A lot of Freo fans don’t seem to rate Frederick but he always seems to play well against us - kicked the winner against us at KP a few years back too - so I’m not unhappy to see him miss.

Walker Pearce McDonald
Mcvee Draper Clark
Johnson Young Erasmus
Cox Brayshaw Serong
Reid Treacy Switkowski
Voss Amiss Bolton

Wagner O'Meara Murray Jackson Chapman

Out: Banfield, little Cox, Dudley, Frederick, Fyfe, O'Driscoll, Ryan, Worner.

In: big Cox, McDonald, Walker, Mcvee, Murray, Switkowski, Draper, Wagner

This board can be pretty weird. Falls in love with random fringe players, yet a guy who kicks 30 goals in a season and averages over a goal a game for his career isn’t that good and is replaceable. All because the medium forward isn’t BOG in our losses.

Yet if we bring in Murray or Scerri, they’ll be lauded as heroes if they lay a few tackles and have half of Freddy’s touches.
