AFL Club
Adelaide
Very important game for the AFC.

It would give us a break of 7-4 which could mean a lot when it comes to the latter of the season.

We have no injuries apart from Stiffy, coming off a win (albeit an ugly one) and Essendon traditionally don't play well at AAMI.

I think we will win, may be a bit of a struggle however.

I would like to think that we will play very well against Essendon. The Bombers aren't a negative team like Carlton, thereby allowing a free flowing game. Last week was almost like a loss for us so I would think that we will bounce back hard....of course we might get thrashed!

Simon Goodwin says Adelaide wants to revert to a more attacking style of game against Essendon at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night after the Crows' nine-goals-to-eight slog against Carlton there last Sunday.

"Last week's game was just an average game for us - we didn't really play well but we got across the line, so it's important this week that we play some attacking footy like we did a couple of weeks ago (against St Kilda) against some quality opposition," Goodwin said before training under lights at AAMI Stadium on Wednesday night.

"Essendon's been playing really well so it's important for us as a group that we come to play at the weekend. They kicked over 20 goals last week (21.11 against the Western Bulldogs) and played some really good footy so we won't be underestimating them at all."

Aware of the Bombers' forward tactics in their 27-point win against the Dogs, Goodwin said: "They had a really good (and tall) forward line, with (James) Hird, (Scott) Lucas, (Matthew) Lloyd, and also (Adam) McPhee went down there.

"Our back six have done a terrific job all year and it's going to be a huge task for them. It's up to the supply that comes in, and if we can control those (midfield) players, it goes a long way to winning the game.

"We've got a lot of players who can go forward or back, and it's important for any side that you've got some versatility and you can throw the team around when things aren't going well.

"Kenny (McGregor) might move back again this week (from centre half-forward) and we'll have to move someone else forward. A number of players can do that. It's a great thing about playing at the footy club at the moment that we demand some versatility.

"(Kevin) Sheedy's pretty good with his moves so he'll shuffle the team around and try to get a mismatch."

Goodwin said the Crows were 'improving all the time', and added: "It's a lot more fun when you're winning. We're having a good time.

"As a group we're developing and it's not just coming from the senior players, it's coming from all the players underneath and that's where we need the improvement to come from.

"We need 22 players playing well for us to be successful, and as soon as we have a drop-off and players don't pull their weight, then that's when we don't play so well."

Of his own fine form - he was the Crows' best player against Carlton - Goodwin, 28 and approaching his 156th AFL match since 1997, said: "I've been given different roles every week, which is exciting.

"Craigy's really thrown it around for me this year. Each week's a new challenge so it's really kept me on my toes and I really look forward to playing every week."

Adelaide could be unchanged for the second successive match.

Ben Hart and Andrew McLeod rested from Wednesday night's training session because they were on 'fitness management programs', according to club officials.

Matthew Clarke (hand) is expected to resume in the SANFL this week, but in the reserves because his local club, South Adelaide, has a bye.

Matthew Bode is getting closer to being considered again. He had 24 disposals, including 16 handpasses, for Glenelg against Central District last Saturday.

I'll put money on that we won't see Watts, VB or Knights this week.

IN: Begley, Bode
OUT: Someone, someone ( Probabaly Jericho and Reilly)

I agree Bode has had more than his fair share of chances, he isnt good enough simple as that they are just taking positions away from players that could use that spot for exposure and development.

Maybe we need Rucci to write an article about Watts going back to Melbourne if he doesnt play. Oh well if Watts was in the Power squad I am sure Rucci would. To be totally honest he most probably would prefer to see Adelaide lose Watts.

A night game at footy park in June. I would think this game will be won on the ground, not in the air with a tall forward line. We have a better midfield so we should win.

The side will probably be unchanged.

Nothing there SC.

I'm along the line of thought that this game has big danger signals for us as Hird is back in the side & Lloyd is over due for a big one.

If our defense holds up like they have been doing all year & it is a shoot-out then we should win but our coaching panel will really have to be on their toes against the wily old master from Bomber land.

As a bomber fan, I'm keen to know a bit about a few of the lesser known crow players that put in week in, week out, yet not seen by the footballing public as "superstars". Who's been the keys to your sucsess this year? Who are the players I should watch out for this week when I'm sitting infront of the telly?

Hey were still trying to find out who they are :p

Mattner(39) has been steady, Torney ( 15) well actually the whole backline is the reason we have won more than lost so ( 25,8,15,44,34,23)..but more forward Scott Thompson ( 5 ) our recruit from Melbourne has impressed a lot of us here.Reilly ( 33 ) was doing ok but has lost his spot to Burton .

Lesser lights giving us effort are Skipworth (14) and Doughty ( 11?)

I do also think this game is not a lay down misere, KS is an astute coach and it will be a battle of our desire to win over a side who will finish in the same 7-12 group as us.

Who should we have at full back?

While Rutten has been great against the gorillas, he's not so good against the smaller leading forwards like Fevola and I think he might struggle on Lloyd.

Any thoughts.

Start with Rutts, then Alternate with Bock if need be.

I wouldnt have thought Lloyd would go into the smaller category, he's a pretty big strong lad (Height 192cm, Weight: 92kg)

Anyway,
plan A = Rutten (Height 191cm, Weight: 96kg)
plan B = Bock (Height 193cm, Weight: 83kg)
plan C = McGregor (Height 194cm, Weight: 93kg)
plan D = Hart (Height 188cm, Weight: 85kg)
plan E = Bassett (Height 191cm, Weight: 89kg)

I hope plan A works, he certainly seems the best match up to me.

My thoughts exactly. While he deserves to have first crack, and will, I hope that Craig doesn't leave him there too long if all is not going well.

Rutten is one the few who actually one grabs in our team, so a move forward could be interesting.

We will win by 22 points.
Rutten will stand Lloyd all day, whatever the outcome. I think he will beat him as our midfield will limit supply and Rutten is good enough to do Lloyd when the ball does come down.
