Silvagni for Johnson.

No one deserves to be dropped. Mora is on the cusp and if Sylvia really wants a spot he'll keep forcing his way in.

Ross on 6pr
-margin should have been more due to innacuracy
-Ross had Pav in top 5 players
-Sandi is working both ends well and working on his contested marking
-Mj will be a loss, but we can cover
-Defending well and back 6 is in form
-MRP has put this in the "too hard basket"
-Spirit of the game is competing
-Luke had a scan, but if Silvagni needs to play we will be happy
-Ibbo can take Johnsons role
-Mora is building and impresive, played his best game, getting exciting for him

Silvagni has never been able to lock down his position in the team really. I have always thought that one of his greatest attributes is that given a role, he will have a crack at it. Including forward line. Until now though he has yet to define himself position-wise.

My gut says lock-down KPD, and that is his problem. he is just not quite good enough/tall enough for that role. He may take intercept marks but we have prefered more skilful and creative options in MJ and Ibbotson for that particular position.

In our forward line who would you think Silvagni would be most successful against; Pavlich, Clarke/Sandilands or Mayne? I think they would all give him problems, each for different reasons. My point is that he is not a clear winner or even break even player. He may have victories against some opponents, but to me he is a potential weak link.

Didn't even know about this; Luke played out of his skin on the weekend.

This game is getting a very 2013-Richmond feel about it what with injuries, MRP clouds and appalling umpiring.

Except this time we'll overcome them because we've learned from our mistakes... and Richmond are shit.

Perhaps the reason I'm struggling to remember 100% how he played under Harvey is because the players' roles weren't nearly as clearly defined as they are now.

There may have been times, for example he towelled up J.Brown a couple of times from memory but usually that was due to injury. Grover would usually play lock down FB, McPharlin CHB or FB Johnson someone else and Silvagni whoever was left or usually one of these players were down with injury.

But yeah as you say it was a different set up, different roles. As I said we had a different gameplan, we were set up to attack from defence so all of the players down back were expected to be able to mark, then set up play and intercept marking is a pretty crucial skill if you're trying to play this way because otherwise you're just causing stoppages in your defensive 50. Chris Scott brought it with him to Geelong and when they were good they'd play this way.

So I'll be fair, he may have played some traditional lockdown key defender roles before, but in a different team. The way we structure up it's not his best position at all. His best position is as a third defender in a role most similar to what Johnno plays at the moment...how's that?

Silvagni might play 3rd defender but there is no way he plays the role like Johnno does
Silvagni is a mark ,stop and kick player. The reason he hasnt got a regular gig is because he doesnt take the game on.

I listened to Ross. He said Lukes knee is a bit loose from an old injury and goes slack (presumably tendons) sometimes.
His last sentence was that he didn't think Luke would get up this week.

He did his Medial in 2010, so that could be the issue. Doesn't sound year ending to me.

Haha yeah I'll take that :D

Finding harmony through compromise, if only I could do this more often!

If Silvagni comes in for McPharlan I reckon that leaves the door wide open for Morabito to come in for Johnson, which is a pretty awesome silver-lining in what is some disappointing news about McPharlan's injury

Out: Johnson ( inj) McPharlin (inj) Ballantyne (sus)

In: Silvagni, Morabito, Sylvia

Footy Gods are taking the piss again.

A number of times recently we have gone east missing keys players through injury and suspension and come a cropper. If Richmond have any pride left they will come out steaming on Saturday. This will be a big test for us and I think it is imperative that an experienced campaigner like Sylvia comes in.

Yep, good call salim. I did say he wasn't as good at it up top haha.

Can't wait for this game now. The possibility of Morabito and Sylvia playing could completely change our scoring ability, even if Morabito is playing across half back. With the bad comes the good.
