Its an old school boy network is the Eagles fam.

Tim Kelly would not be getting a game at any of the other 17 AFL clubs.
I am so bemused as to why he was given a 2 year contract extension, his disposals seem to be getting worse, he’s slow, looks disinterested. I 100% would have delisted or traded at the end of this year, in fact if I had anything to do with the decision making he’d be playing WAFL.
It’s unbelievable that he got a 2 year extension.

How good are seniors though

I really hope McQualter shows that segment to our entire list when they return from holidays.

Nathan Buckley, who has proven to be a very fair and restrained commentator IMO said, “that’s what happens when you have a group of fat cats… it’s been going on for years”.

Had Cornes or some Victorian gas bag said that, I wouldn’t have given it the time of day. However, Buckley wouldn’t have said it, if he didn’t know it for certain.

mm

thats Buckley who walked from Ben for ego and to win a premiership, only to miss 3. The lurker that stabbed Mick in the back, a premiership coach, and the Buckley that was outreached by Simmo leading a team of fat cats. Walks on his wife?

He is a reasonable coach, paid for comment, and has more baggage that a freight train.

You could start with the listed fat cats - 1. Cole who admits himself he is a bit player. The others were plodders on reasonable money only by AFL standards and at the end of their career. No mention of the AA outs of that the disaster as 30 min long and was resurrected through coaching, effort and character for 3 quarters.

TV is no place for balance.

And yet despite all that, Buckley’s been very fair and balanced in his commentary on the Eagles. It’s a real credit to him.

I'm thinking it's time to lay off Tim Kelly.

He's not playing great, and as someone who couldn't coach an Auskick team successfully, it looks like he should be in the seconds. I doubt any contract renewal would be on huge money either.

But let's give the guy a break from the incessant bashing. I know the Internet has to be targetting someone at all times, but it's getting a bit much now.

He came across to fill a gap in what was supposed to be a strong team pushing for another flag. And he's copped .... well whatever the **** the Eagles of 22-25 have been. Would be pretty hard to keep the fire burning when it's pretty much been raining for years - and you're copping the brunt of the complaints about it, even when you're playing OK.

(No, I don't think he should be in the side at the moment, but **** me, it's time to stop with the pile on)

We all (I assume) are paid to do a job. When it gets hard or doesn't go to plan you reckon its all good to stop trying and phone the efforts in?

That's what Tim has done, like the whole club for a period of time it's the poor me life is so unfair attitude while being paid very very well that turns supporters off.

**** me you're getting paid to stay in shape and chase a ball. Put some ****ing effort in.

Very few of us have our jobs dissected daily in public on social (and mainstream) media and have people constantly criticising us. Yes, it's why it pays well, and yes, it would be ideal if people were able to be able to ignore it and get on with things.

That's just not how people work.

I don't think we can make a direct correlation between an average worker and one who's entire life is in the public eye in terms of ability to get on with a job. It's just not that possible.

I don't think you could pay me enough to have every campaigner staring at you everywhere you go.

Watching every move you make when things are going great would suck let alone going to Coles and people whispering "he's ****ing shit" while you're buying your lettuce.

Hope he and all poor performing Eagles turns there form around and if they can't then so be it.

I don’t think anyone has huge performance expectations on our players, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable for us to expect effort.

The first quarter against Carlton was totally unacceptable and it is far from an isolated event. Refer to McQualter’s comments at quarter time and post match or re-watch it, if you have the stomach for it. That’s largely on our leaders.

Of course TK has - weirdly - made a rod for his own back by not being injured. He’s been there pretty much every week, through all the serious crap, while the other ‘stars’ like Gov, Yeo, Oscar, Sheed etc etc have been sitting on the sidelines.

Very rarely does a whipping boy perform better the more you whip him.

Our senior players should be ****ing embarrassed that a guy from the ammos and then a state league, came in and got more possessions, showed more intent and hit more targets in the wet than most of them combined. Shows how bad our senior players are. ****ing disgrace really.
Our seniors have plenty to be embarrassed about. Two blokes from Richmond swan in and take over the joint. Baker is essentially a defacto Captain. Appears in most of the club marketing pieces, leads on and off the field in a meaningful way.

TK the outside high hand forward who has had to play inside mid to cove for our abundant youth - and is probably busted up a bit.

Interesting. Maybe when you are in a two club city, and the other club is mostly crap, it is easy to lose context on exactly where your club sits. Maybe Baker and Graham from Richmond firsts, and McCarthy from Richmond reserves, have shown this.

Who is whipping Tim? He's been one of the worst performed members of the team for years given his seniority and experience and has just been rewarded with a two year extension.

Sounds like the opposite of whipping to me, I sincerely doubt the comments of a few nobody's on an online footy forum really constitutes Tim being a whipping boy. Just propagates the poor me woe is me aura around Timothy.

Gaff busted a gut in the WAFL it's wild to me that a) Kelly isn't and b) was rewarded with a 2 year extension
Gaffs body was cooked. He looked like one of the 90s players out there in his final season. Kelly I think still is reasonably fit he's just lost his mojo. The club is taking a gamble he gets it back. We have to spend our salary cap on someone and we're about to lose Gov, Sheed and maybe Cripps and Allen. If Kelly never gets his skill back it's not really going to effect us going forward regarding the cap.

Too many excuses and hubris. End of the day it's a simple formula. Do the job you're paid to do.

Tim is getting paid very well to perform a role to the best of his abilities. He is not doing that and doesn't appear to really care.

If you can't handle that than retirement or the country leagues beckon. Tim could get be getting between 3-5k a week cash and train 1 X weekly in a bush league somewhere around WA. Plus all the beer and parmis he can handle on the house

This is a bit of a disjointed rant but leadership is the issue. The fat cats have just fallen into a mindset of accepting mediocrity from themselves and from each other.

It’s like a unspoken group relationship where everyone just gives 50% effort, because why bother being the one senior bloke busting a gut? So people start accepting going through the motions, passively waiting for success to eventually just happen…eventually.

Allen and Duggan have clearly signed up to this arrangement whether they realise it or not. The fact it’s co-captains, and responsibility is diffuse, probably reinforces it.

I’m no organisational psychologist, but clearly this is an endemic mental/culture issue, and not simply a matter of lacking talent. You don’t push Brisbane and Geelong for 3Q if you don’t have the cattle.

I’m sure the club has psychs etc. But there has to be someone or a program that can address the group dynamic onfield.

Maybe appointing Baker as captain, and giving him a licence to put a rocket up the OG senior players, is worth looking at. Bit embarrassing but maybe it’d work.

Well we’ve really zeroed in on TK.He’s done the job he was brought over to do and more.
His form is not great but gee he’s not Robinson Crusoe.
14 tackles in the second half of a game? Seriously?
Duggan should probably be first in line for criticism.
His skills are average at best so he needs to compensate with hardness at the contest.
OA is co cap but with his signing question marks and lnjuries isn’t giving us a lot of leadership.Hunt has been just awful. So what if he cost nothing, that’s what he’s worth.
Looking at Dewar in the first quarter he wouldn’t go near the contest.Given more room he played well.
Is he taking his cue from the club leaders or is it an overall club malaise?
Duggan came out and said the players need to spend as much time together as possible. He feels the club is in a 2014 position.
WC have never been a great wet weather team and I think a game like Carlton we needed a bit more grit and less run on top of the ground silkiness.
Punting TK won’t solve much. That message has already been sent once.Hunt,Cripps and ( shudder) Brock need a trip back to WAFL.

If the club has psychs on the payroll they are failing miserably and should be sacked.

I reckon this is extremely short odds to happen next year. McQualter obviously rates him highly and I doubt the young group will be overly burdened by closeness with the incumbents.

Oscar will likely be gone and if Duggan has any sense he’ll step aside to give someone else a go
